The funny thing is, even if Magus had ended up validating his 2k3
performance, both Sonic and Snake could have kicked his ass this year.

Dante > Magus, even if a match would actually be close between the
two, looks like a stroke of genius now in comparison to how the same
prospect looked before Magus was exposed and before it became evident
Dante boosted some.

Squall > Vincent. Man, 1200 votes away.
I still take satisfaction in sticking with Squall when the Magus supporters said I was just being a stupid fanboy though.

I actually considered Dante > Magus.. my problem was thinking that
Squall was overrated and not believing in Vincent as much as I should
have. I picked Magus in the division because he seemed to be the least
worst choice.

Squall didn't really have much reason to be overrated in the first
place. If you were thinking about Squall over Magus, it should have
been on faith in thinking that Squall was genuinely more popular than
Magus.

I said Knuckles was going to beat Squall after round one in hope that
Knux could pull off the upset, not that Squall was overrated. I don't
care what year it was, or what the demographic was, anyone that can
hand Luigi his ass is pretty strong in my eyes. Squall made people
think Luigi would have trouble with KOS-MOS!

Bingo.
I know how Leonhart feels about Squall > Magus, thanks to MH > Kuja; arguing valiantly and respectably for an upset while being ridiculed and passed off by many people becomes oh-so sweet when the joke falls onto them.

Serious Reminder: Nominate Jay Solano in 2k6.

And despite that, all your arguments were wrong. Kuja's weakness surprised everyone, as I recall. The only difference was that you though Master Hand would be (relatively) strong, and even in that you were wrong.

Oh yeah, no doubt I was wrong on most stances about that match; you
won't hear me deny that. I argued mostly with Leonhart about the match
(though I was open game for everyone, as was Master Mage, FastFalcon,
and either Pheduik or cyko -- I forget which), and I believe he was
more right overall about where the two stood than I was (I know he had
MH's about right, whereas I had Kuja being over-rated right...we were
both wrong in most other points though). My saving grace was that
Master Hand won -- the big thing here, heh, or else I would have had next-to-nothing right about that one.
There is one argument of mine I'll still defend though: the upset-poll. While I was wrong on my fair share of things, I was completely justified in defending MH in that poll. Meanwhile, seemingly everybody else was too busy being impressed by M. Bison...who was between MH and CATS in that one. I still don't understand the shocking support M. Bison got from that poll yet people kept dismissing MH in it because of the small vote totals.....

I can't believe people were shocked that Bison beat Albedo.
As much as he was hyped up, Xenosaga is still not on the popularity
level of a Street Fighter. And to add insult to injury, you don't even
SEE Albedo until late in the game. At least KOS-MOS has some game
recognizability along with being a hot chick. Albedo has none of that...

You forgot? Remember people were still thinking that Magus was
potentially stronger than Sonic and Snake? Some of them were looking
for Magus to almost double up Knux if I remember correctly. I
definitely know that doubling up Knux was mentioned numerous times
though.

FastFalcon, and either Pheduik or cyko
OMG you said my name! I count, I matter, hurray!
And, yes, I did have master hand (double hurray), but it was funny, because I changed that in the extra window of opportunity when predictions didn't close right when they were supposed to. I was proud of that change though; it was just more fun to have than anything else. Upset picks in general, even when they're insane, are just fun to have.

Mid-60s? Damn, that was sick. For Magus to have been able to pull
mid-60s on Knuckles, he needed to be on par with pre-boost Mario. LOL.
And that's UNBOOSTED Knuckles to boot. On boosted Knuckles, then? How
'bout being able to beat Samus and post-boost Mario?
lol mid-60. These guys were nuts. 60 was about the best Magus could hope for if his performance on Link was his true strength.

I still think that Zero may have underperformed slightly due to going
up directly against Mario. I think Mega Man and Sonic would probably do
the same if they were to go up against Mario, although Sonic may stand
up to him slightly due to the rivalry they had. But Sonic's ability to
rise up to Mega Man makes me wary of what Mario could have done to the
Blue Bomber...

Ka-ching.
Speaking of such, if Knuckles is really destined to lose in the second round every year, he should face Mario in the second round next year in hopes of a Shadow-esque over-performance. That'd be cool, no matter how ultimately inaccurate.

You'd have a good point, especially considering Link/Megaman... until you look at the other two matches he had this year. One underperformance may have explained itself, but three... no.
