hey KH, a question:
I've seen people say that while STH isn't that great, that Shadow as a character is still cool. is this true? if so, the exposure may help him more than people realize.

I still don't consider beating Sin by less than 2000 votes to be an accomplishment or something you would use to support your case, whether it's from FFX or not.

...I really wouldn't use Robotnik to support your argument. He's
still ridiculously weak, and he beat a fin and a hand whilst getting
destroyed by a nose.

Could be; it was the closest match of the contest, afterall. I really
wish Tails would have made it in this year though; throwing him in
Fisher's place could have been fun, especially if he gained any.

Serious Reminder: Nominate Jay Solano in 2k6.
Why? Transience was nice enough to point out 2k5 was too late for him.

DK/Tails? Man, I would've hated to have to predict that match before
the contest. I probably would've gone with Miles Per Hour because of
DK's tendency to blow matches.

Well, that depends on what you mean by 'cool'. I'm not fond of Shadow's character--never really have been. But I am aware that Shadow became enormously popular based on his angsty and mysterious 'personality' from SA2. He stays as true to that as ever in ShTH, so that won't be a minus for existing fans. And as for me, there was a bright spot or two in the Last Story, though it takes ten playthroughs in order to unlock that. = /

Considering the Sonic polls that featured Dr. Robotnik as being one of
the most-hated and least-liked characters of his series, a win is a win
for Dr. Robotnik over any FFX character, even if it's just Sin and even
if it was so close.
Think bigger about Tails in that four-pack though...if Tails gained much, he could have taken out MC. That'd been a shocker.

I really doubt Sin would fare very well at all in any sort of FFX "favorite" poll.

SoT was lauded by critics, but ultimately sold very poorly.
The Sands of Time sold upward to 2.4 million copies upon my last check. By no means is that selling "very poorly."
WW was received much worse by reviewers,
The Wind Waker was rather well received from most reviewers from what I remember.

Did it now? That's a bit more than I had thought. Regardless, the point is comparative, and the sales *were* disappointing, which is what prompted the change in style.

I assume you mean Warrior Within. Because that's what I mean. Again, I mean comparatively. Sands of Time was much more well received by the hardcore fandom.

A whopping 6.63%, but CJayC chose all the wrong villains for that poll, Sin included. Most of those are just last bosses that nobody cares about or likes. At least Sin is a prominent part of the game.

Oh, and granted, that's not a FFX-favorite poll and being behind Kefka
isn't worth bragging about. I'm not arguing that Sin is a force to be
reckoned with, nor am I for Dr. Robotnik. I just think that it'd be
worth noting that victory for the Sonic team over the FFX crew, even if
they are on such a low level.

HGR and Semi probably did.
The rest were probably Star Wars fanboys who marked out when Necron went all Yoda on Zidane.

Well, I cannot possibly ever imagine those sales being considered disappointing. But that darker side of the Prince was thought of right about the time the lighter side of the Prince was thought of. The idea behing Warrior Within had been there almost as long as The Sands of Time. So while it is certainly a solid marketing strategy to change him into a more "badass" type of character, it was also apart of Ubisoft's way of making him a more hardened character for story purposes. It wasn't entirely because of sales at all.

Haha! I still have a thing with attaching "WW" to "Wind Waker" despite how you were talking about Prince of Persia. Nasty habit.
Sands of Time, as a whole, was much more well received between the "hardcore" and the reviewers as well. I know on average SoT was better between reviewers and most people who had played both games.
But I'm going to go look and see if I can't find a sales comparison just because it's bugging me. Not exactly proving any particular point, but I'm interested in seeing the the two now.

Imagine how few people would have taken Tails over MC, too, in
general/the Gurus/the BOP/the Oracle (probably). That would have been
awesome in the contest-sense, though I'd still rather MC win that one.
Tails switching with Kratos Aurion could have been fun, too, as well as even the SFF-beatdown that would follow if Tails beat Diablo. Speaking of which, we've yet to see any form of Sega SFF to my knowledge, especially amongst Sonic characters...I wonder how well Shadow/Knuckles/Tails(/Robotnik, even) would hold up against Sonic head-to-head.
Man, all this talk is about to make me create a 2k6 bracket.....

You get the Spirit Camo automatically. You can't miss it.
Actually, you can kill yourself in the River of Sorrow with a rocket launcher or explosive weaopn and take the revival pill to avoid the battle altogether, but if you do this you don't get spirit camo. I did that when I did a speed run, it really helped.

For those interested in the bracket I made:
http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=8&topic=24740049
DK/Tails has generally been considered a close match, and DK/MC were dead-even before Halo 2...CATS and DK (Sam Fisher, too, if ya wanna extropolate) both say Halo 2 helped him none, and his match against Crono is the only thing that says otherwise (which I don't trust one bit).

I'd trust that match with Crono, personally. DK had The Boost, Sam
Fisher had a new game (two since 2003, since 2004 was such a fluke),
and in spite of that Magus/Fisher would still be expected to go to
Magus with 64%. That's a two-point gain over two games. MC is where he
belongs, I say.
Then again, it's board tradition to not give the Chief enough credit.

I don't trust Magus either, FYI, thanks to Crono/Vincent (and I'm not
even a fan of Vincent/Squall, either, but I don't wanna get into that
one right now). Also, as a supporter or MC, I wish I could give him
that much credit. However, given that their four-pack played out
damn-near-perfectly when using MC/DK/Fisher 2k3 and Face-CATS, I can't
be fully behind MC's nice performance against Crono; I do not think
Halo 2, The Boost's effect on DK, a new SC game (or two if you fancy),
and a random jump three months laters from a joke character can be both
proportional and so big as far as their effects go.

Similar logic was used when gauging Tails last year, and we all got

(although to be honest, CATS is the big oddball).

Point taken though, as I'll concede the better example of Tidus on myself. Regardless, do you give MC full credit for his match against Crono? While I'm thinkin' they should go back to their 2k3/VC values, the only thing I feel certain about is that they should NOT get full credit for MC/Crono. I'm not against a small proportional boost, and I'm not against them all gaining in various boosts...but to gain so much in such proportion for a FOUR-PACK instead of just one match is something that I'm not prepared to accept.

I'd be willing to browse most/all of the previous PotD's if you'd be
willing to do a page that'd link to said polls with the poll-questions
above/beside each link.
If you're willing to go through 2000+ polls and pick out what you think is useful, then yeah sure, I'll make a page. My only issue is that those polls are misleading most of the time, but I'll make a note of that.

Slow: I knew nothing about Nemesis, so I just left that alone and let
XIII is cool do it. He wound up making one hell of a writeup.

Aight then, sounds good...I'll send ya an e-mail with my list either
late tonight or sometime Sunday, I figure. While they can be
misleading, they are also often-times brought up and aren't 100% wrong
so it could make for easier referencing. They're no more wrong than
Mario/Cloud, if nothing else, heh (though God did that ever feel so
right).

Serious Reminder: Nominate Jay Solano in 2k6.
Why? Transience was nice enough to point out 2k5 was too late for him.

They tend to be more accurate for games than for characters, if that means anything.

Unfortunately, ocne Ultros finally showed up in a match he went and proved why it took him so long to see a contest in the first place.

That much is true Slow, though that's not to say the character-ones are useless either.

OMG, A TYPO! I'm sure I'm the only one who has ever made those.
=p
Thanks for that. The less errors, the better. But bear in mind that I make my typos on purpose just to allow you people to think that I'm on your level and/or a normal human like the rest of you </Maddox>

Hmm hmm. Where's that Yoshi championship now, huh?
Seriously, Yoshi > Luigi > Mario > Bowser? HAHAHAHAHA. Worst thing is, Yoshi was all the rage to beat Bowser way back then, and look what happened.

Ocelot failed to break 55% on Nemesis, while Wily went out and beat the hell out of what many felt was a strong characterin Ultros
