Explanation of Extrapolated Standings:
http://sc2k5.com/drupal/node/11

Simple Explanation of Extrapolated Standings:
A = Strongest Character
B = Character Weaker than A
C = Character Weaker than B
To figure out a character's Xsts Percentage ---> [(CvB)(BvA)]/50 = CvA
To compare how C would do against B ---> [(CvA)/(BvA)]*50 = CvB
To figure out how B would do against A ---> [(CvA)/(CvB)]*50 = BvA

It was easy in the sense that I don't think it's possible to die from that battle (unless you dive off cliffs repeatedly, for whatever reason), but I can't imagine the battle actually played the way it was meant to be (as a true silent-killer sniping battle). I would also love to see somebody hold him up to get that daggum Moss Suit of his or whatever; rarely could I even get close enough to have him in my screen, much less actually have him at gun-point.....

I actually managed to sneak up on him and hold him up once, but I couldn't get him to drop the stupid camo for the life of me. You almost absolutely have to wait for him to fall asleep before you can sneak up on him.

*minor MGS3 spoilers*

Sneaking up on The End isn't that hard, you just have to pay attention to all the potential sniper spots (and he can only be in a couple at the beginning) and follow his footprints when he runs away (thermal goggles help a lot with this if you're inexperienced). Then just stalk (D-Pad) when you hear him breathing or if you think you're getting close.

As for his camo, you have to hold him up, aim at his head, and pull away a couple of times to get him to do it--i.e., you need to get him to shake three times before he'll drop the camo.

I was crawling the one time I got in the same screen as him, and he had his back turned. Once I got a lil' closer though, for whatever reason, the next two things I knew were "!" and "****!"...

...then I promptly got shot.

Crawling is unreliable. Stalking is much better when you close in on The End.
From: Sir Crono | Posted: 11/14/2005 9:39:14 AM | Message Detail
You HAVE to use the D-pad to stalk somebody. It doesn't matter how slightly you move the analog stick. The enemy will detect it.

Not sure if that's the problem, but I remember learning that the hard way against The End myself.

I'll keep that in mind when I go through my second play-through. I just don't like using the D-Pad for MGS games...'bout time I suck it up though.

Also, another note: though I didn't get into the grass when he was alerted, he was in some high-grass. Will my stalking in the grass get his attention, or will that be okay too?

As long as you're stalking with the D-Pad and he can't see you, you should be fine.

Like I said before, if he's asleep, it'll be much easier.

Far as I remember, stalking in the high grass should be fine. Stalking is basically the be-all end-all of sneaking in MGS3, the only thing that's more effective than it is Spirit Camo.

Sorry therealmnm; I'll stop after this post 'cuz I was in your same shoes a lil' over a month ago.

Spirit Camo is something I'm definitely getting next play-through; I just didn't think a stamina-kill was the way to go with that particular boss, plus I wasn't aware that defeating the bosses depending on which bar you took down mattered at that time as far as items go.

Oh, it's cool. I don't really mind since I'm not hardcore about the MGS series besides the first. Most of MGS2 has been spoiled for me already, even though I haven't beaten it, so I don't really mind.

What drove me batty was having Tales of Symphonia constantly spoiled for me. (-_-)

You get the Spirit Camo automatically. You can't miss it.

As for The Fear's camo...I never use it because it's not worth the stamina drain. Regardless, I almost always beat The Fear by draining his stamina. It's so much easier that way.

Yeah, I see where Leonhart is coming from as a Sonic fan... As for the contest, I didn't really think Sonic would be near Mega Man, let alone have a chance to win the match. That was a victory in itself to us fans that had to constantly hear time after time how Sonic has fallen off.

Oh please. I bashed both Sonic and Mega Man in that writeup.

And yes, I do like both characters. I just despise what they've done since the SNES/Genesis days, and their fans certainly don't help.

Anyway, I have since cleaned up the bio a bit and mentioned that most people expected Mega to win the match.

So what exactly is it that you despise that they've done since the SNES/Genesis days? I know that we have the similar taste in console games, and I think the Adventure Games and the X series kick extreme amounts of ass! You should give them a chance.

The X series (at least the first 4) speaks for itself. I know you like the original Mega Man series, so it's baffling that you haven't even given the X series a chance! Trust me, they are well worth playing through.

As for the Sonic Adventure games, I can only say try them out for yourself before you listen to others bash how they aren't like the 2D Sonic games. But I think they are much more in depth even though the execution wasn't perfect. For me, once I played through the Sonic Adventure games, it was hard for me to go back to the "hold right" gameplay of the 2D Sonics. Give them a shot!

Mega Man X isn't quite the same formula as the Classic series. Sure, it follows the general "Beat all the Robot Masters" formula, but there are quite a few differences. Granted, once Capcom finds one formula for one series, it stays with it forever, but that's a different story.

And the Sonic Adventure games ARE good, and Sonic CAN work in 3-D. Sega just hasn't taken full advantage of their potential. I mean, relegating Knuckles to nothing more than treasure hunting and sticking Tails in a mech? Gimme a break.

Note that I haven't played Sonic Heroes, so I can't comment on the aspects of that game, but the style of gameplay seems like it still limits the potential.

I prefer Sonic Heroes over the other two by a considerable amount. It brought back Tails to his roots pretty well (minus the ear-crippling voice acting), and Knuckles actually comes into his own gameplay-wise instead of being a Sonic who glides and clings to walls.

I would have liked Sonic Heroes better if it didn't have the team thing. Although combat was fine with it, moving around was pretty awkward besides with Sonic. I didn't like the formations at all. I'd rather have Tails running around and flying by himself like in the original SA, although the way they did it makes sense. It just didn't feel right.

Knuckles would have been even more awesome in the game if he had his gliding and climbing abilities, but once again, the formation and teamwork thing couldn't allow that. Not to mention the fact that the game needed to be fine tuned, tested, and debugged another month or two...

Eh, that's part of the reason I prefer the original Sonic Adventure to SA2B. Tails is no fun when he's just stuck in a machine the whole time, and for this whole "Good or evil: Now you can choose!" stuff, both sides are remarkably similar in gameplay and level design. Not to mention, the game ends the same either way. Kinda defeats the whole purpose.

Plus, the original has playable Amy Rose.

They do as well. That's not my fault. It's not liek I dislike 3D gaming as a whole. We all know I hold SM64 in very high regard, and I'm sure if we made a list of 3D games I could find a number that I played and liked. Some games just weren't meant to be in 3D; Sonic, Zelda, and Metroid are among them.
