One Winged Angel. Duh.

Um, where's Sonic? I was trying to compare the Noble Niners, but I can't find him.

Besides, um, well, I didn't expect you to write them all up, and sorted at that. Thanks, anyway. It's always cool to see something refreshing like that.

Have you read Link's bio lately?

Yes, yes I did. That doesn't change a thing, fighting for second place is a snooze. Heck, I had some serious trouble keeping my interest up this year because the main bracket was nothing more than a battle for fourth. I'd rather see Link decimate everything with 55%+ rather than see Cloud win and say, "bleh, Link would've beaten him anyway".

Besides, Cloud and Sephiroth will be able to count on a boost from those who didn't see the leaked AC... now, here's to hope what Vincent did to Crono was just a post-release spike à la Mario or a case of rSFF related to the leak, because if it was an actual boost, then it didn't do a damn thing to Cloud and Sephiroth - meaning AC merely prevented them from dropping.

Of course, this is complete conjecture - we have little data regarding what really happened. Had Vincent had more matches with AC under his belt, we might've been able to figure it out.

Well yes, but a lot of people used to feel that he should be gone completely.

To me, that just doesn't make sense. I understand the feeling that people are either getting tired of Link dominating everything or that he's winning too much, but you also have to think of what would happen when you do remove him. You get a new winner (Cloud), but the domination will only be a little lesser than what it was when Link was in there. The unfortunate thing here is that if you remove Link, you have to take two others with him or else it becomes no different, really.

Hey, Rikku actually has character...in Final Fantasy X anyway. But for some reason, it's reserved to the optional scenes in Guadosalam and the snowmobile.

And the thing is...Ryu wasn't even really THAT far off his normal self, despite the fact that Bowser beat him down.

No, you have to take down FOUR others. We saw what happened whe we only took down two... Mario dominated outrageously, and no one will even think about picking Samus over Mario ever again. Take out Mario, and it still remains rather easy, since Crono and Megaman seemed to fade away a bit this year. The highest-level heated battle we could have at this point is the Crono/Megaman/Sonic trio.

I can see far more fluctuation among everyone else with the exception of Link, Cloud, and Sephiroth. Mario would obviously be everyone's choice and Crono probably doesn't have much room to increase, unless he benefits from some all Square increase. Hmm. I guess you would have to take out Mario as well, but eh, I could live with him in there and the idea of him potentially losing.

Hey, if one Noble Niner impressed this year more than anyone to me, it was Sonic. If the hedgehog can actually get his ass in gear with his newer/next-gen games (and signs are actually pointing to them potentially being worthwhile), he might be able to make a match with Mario (at least before Mario 128). I know I'm taking him over Crono and Mega Man next year unless his games completely bomb, so I think the potential is there.
From: LeonhartForever | Posted: 11/13/2005 11:56:11 AM | Message Detail
Bah, I'm still upset about him losing to Mega Man.

...I always have a problem with overestimating Sonic, so just check to see how far I have him going, and put him one round back.

I fully expect Crono to under-perform next year due to new consoles being released, but, even then, I dunno if I could bring myself to pick Sonic over him (though I would love to, trust me). I would feel better putting Sonic > Crono than Mega > Crono though, for what it's worth.

Speaking about new systems, I had hardly been paying attention I guess, but the PotD had informed me the 360 is a week away...wow. What are the most recent release dates for the other two upcoming systems?

The PlayStation 3 had that "Spring 2006" date for a while and the Revolution won't be out until at least Fall I would imagine. The PS3 might be out before or during the next contest, but I would doubt it. I can almost see the Xbox 360 having close to a year on the next-generation consoles. Unless, of course, Sony meets that Spring 2006 date, which I doubt heavily.

Didn't the original Playstation have a significant 'first-strike' advantage on the N64? I can't recall. Other than that, though, being first really hasn't seemed to help much...particularly for the Dreamcast.

One thing that might help Crono a little is if Square decides to release Chrono Trigger on the GBA or DS. Since they're doing it with FF IV and FF VI, it wouldn't surprise me too much.

Yeah; Crono is relying on that if he wants another significant boost someday. Certianly not impossible, and, hell, it'd be great for handhelds if that happened, but I just feel like they would have been doing that in place of FF4/6 if they were ready to do that soon. Note that I'm not saying it's hard to port it.

Well, it kind of makes sense to do them in chronological order. FF IV is coming out next month and FF V and VI have been announced, so maybe CT will be after those. But in that case it probably won't be out before 2007.

You know, with all the talk about taking out the top 4 characters, I actually don't MIND any of them being in the main bracket. Sure it makes for easy prediction, but there are still some intriguing matches that I'd like to see statswise.

I want to see how Snake would stand up to Clinkeroth. I want to see how Crono would fare against Cloud and Sephiroth with potential SFF, or how Vincent or Tifa would fare against Sephy. Sure most of those matches are meaningless, but I'd still like to see them. And as for Mario, I'd just like to see how he fares against more characters. Would matches against Sonic or Mega Man go screwy and allow him to blow them out? There's still plenty of interest for US in these contests... ;)

As for consoles, I think the XBox 360 will be closer to the PS2 than to the Dreamcast as far as comparisons go for consoles released earlier than others.

The Dreamcast came without much fanfare, and although it was technically the best system out by far, it still had to compete against a PS1 still in its prime. The announcement and release of the PS2 simply was too much for Sega to handle apparently, although they could have done a MUCH, much better job with the Dreamcast as far as advertising and business as a whole went.

With this generation, EVERYONE knows about the XBox 360, as well as the PS3 and Revolution, so there will be no surprises. We all pretty much know what is out there with the systems, so I think XBox has a huge advantage on Sony in that regards. Everyone thinks about Dreamcast when thinking about if the XBox 360 was released too early, but fail to mention the fact that the PS2 was released a year before the XBox and Gamecube. And look at the market share that the PS2 has as a result. Of course, I don't think that Microsoft will beat Sony this generation, but they will certainly take a larger portion of the market.
