So...are there any rookies we expect in next year that could pack any strength? I don't think I've heard much on this topic.

What's sad is Reno probably would be one of the stronger rookies. Given that I don't expect much from him, and, well...I guess I just don't expect much from the rookies next year then.

In 2003, writing off the ever-flukish Magus and Ganondorf, it was Zero.

In 2004, it was... um... Frog, nope, Liquid, nope... VIVI. No kidding.

In 2005, it was either Vinny V or Tifa, both of whom basically only got in because of Cloud and Seph being gone to the ToC. Aside from that, we have to go all the way to Leon.

Yep, we're running out of rookies all right. The only good ones I could think of are all from FF7.

The only chance of getting any non-FF7 good rookies would be from any new releases this year.

By the looks of things, I wouldn't expect much until FF12.

So...are there any rookies we expect in next year that could pack any strength?

Um...at all? Princess Toadstool? Maybe Serge? Hmph. So many characters, so many high-tier characters who already have their foot in the door and live to beat said former characters into pulp.

The DL certainly isn't losing its religion, as Maester Seymour Guado and Seraph Lamington duel. Whose faith is stronger? Find out at www.rpgdl.com!
From: HaRRicH | Posted: 11/8/2005 9:40:43 PM | Message Detail
I wouldn't take Serge over Zidane, for what it's worth.

Even for the rookies that would have some strength, then there's the issue of if they'll get in. I mean, sure, somebody like Barret could win a round or two...but he's not making a contest any time soon. Same goes for most of the other rookies that have some strength.

Exactly. Should Clinkeroth return to the same bracket as the others (and I hope to god that's what happens), not only will we not be seeing any new blood from FF7, but one or two people from the Tifa/Aeris/Vincent trio will be on the chopping block. Very difficult decision stats-wise, because they all look about even. Depends on which one the fanbase rallies behind, I guess.

And while we're on the topic of FF7, the percentage went down to a more reasonable 101%. Still...

Ah! Peach is one I would probably imagine being rather strong, especially with her new little starring role. Nothing that the upper characters would have to fear or anything but I would bet she'd be above fodder by quite a bit.

the only rookies you'll get with much strength are fourth and fifth reps from popular series, like Red XIII or Peach. I'd put Serge and Fei around Lloyd or Kratos's strength.

in the middle of them, probably; 17-18% or so. I would have gone more towards Lloyd, but Xenogears being #32 impressed me. CC did worse, but more people have played his game thanks to the Chrono name. I'd take Serge over Fei.

Seifer reminds me too much of Kuja, in the sense that I'm not an avid FF-fan and have only heard of those FF-villains/rivals in the contexts of seeing them in a contest. I never heard of Kuja before the Villain Contest (except for Leonhart's NCAA-tourney, but I had completely ignored him since I never heard of him or knew anything about him, heh), and the same thing goes for Seifer.

Granted, FF8 > FF9, but I still don't put alot of faith into him.

Well, Seifer is slated to be in KHII, ya know. He might be able to do some damage. I'd like to see Laguna as well, for what it's worth.

I've been pushing for Serge for two years. Don't forget Sub-Zero, too.

Sub-Zero could have some strength, but after seeing there be four years without him and no MK characters making it this past time -- even after the one MK poll showed him as the series-favorite -- I've lost faith in him making it.

Psycho Mantis would NOT be above the fodder line, though it would be cool to see. Considering Revolver is debatable, I do not see PM getting even 45% on him.

I would put Princess about even with Reno and Captain Falcon a lil' below, myself.

Yeah Peach would be just below Cid, and Mantis would beat Falcon easily.

Mantis would be pathetic, considering Ocelot is THE mainstay of the series aside from Snake, and still lost to Pac-Man. Falcon would beat him just because he's in SSBM. Worked wonders for Ness.

Ocelot had a crappy picture.

Mantis is questionable, but with a cool enough pic (as you can tell I think the pics play a HUGE Factor sometimes) he could be ~Liquid Level.

Mantis would be pathetic, but don't let Liquid's ranking in the Villain Contest fool you. He would beat Ocelot, and I'm thinking it wouldn't even be much of a battle. I'm thinking Raiden has the potential to do damage as well (he *is* an MGS lead, after all).

Everyone else from MGS is fodder, unfortunately, unless we're talking Naked Snake.
From: HaRRicH | Posted: 11/9/2005 12:47:52 PM | Message Detail
I'm still a (shaky) believer that Raiden is the second-strongest character from the MGS series we've seen.

Liquid's villain contest ranking was legit. Just look at what Frog ended up doing. Still, he IS stronger than Ocelot.
