I just can't help that the only games that weren't on the drop-down list were Tales of Symphonia and Halo 2. I wonder how different the list would be if there wasn't on list to choose from.

it's pretty good at the top half.. but the bottom half, a bunch of those games would never make the GF top 100. you could probably put 20-30 games in that would outrank those.

I wonder how ToS would have done if it was in the drop-down list. I mean, it already beat Halo 2, and we're all thinking Halo 2 would've done real well if it was on that list. I figure unless Board 8 made a major difference in ToS' ranking, it could still have been around Halo 2's level, only much higher up the list.

Show people that before the last character contest and then see how many people would still have picked Samus > Mario.

It was fairly obvious back then too, what with Prime losing to Wind Waker by what, 10000-15000 votes? Samus has always been much more loved than their games, that's no secret, thanks to SSB.

I think TOS would have done been around where Xenogears finished. both games have about the same level of popularity and have rabid fanbases. TOS might be higher because it's newer, but I don't think it'd crack the top 20.

Yeah, heh...whoops. I used to have the same problem with relating games to Rare, but Rare then made ANOTHER game from a DIFFERENT series worth remembering. Bungie's not done that for me.

Either way, if Halo doesn't give Microsoft some strength, how about this: the Xbox itself?

It's a shame that more people haven't. Great series.

*Ahem* I'm a huge fan of the Jak & Daxter and Ratchet & Clank series. I got J&D and FFX as my first two PS2 games with my system, and I learned of R&C from lots of talk on the J&D boards. I agree, it's a shame so few people have enjoyed their greatnesses.

Yeah, and it wasn't even just the pitiful grammar either; even when ignoring it, it was a bland read-through. I'm no R. L. Stine myself, nor are most of us, but I have little doubt that most of us could have done better on those games listed, whether we even played them or not.

agreed. I'll post what I posted before in the bracket topic, since it's more of a stat topic-question than a casual question..

when Goldeneye was revealed, I mentioned that SOTN may be stronger than we initially thought, but didn't think a whole lot of it. after seeing it at #15, do you think any differently of it? is it possible Goldeneye's fourpack is even more underrated than we thought?

I dunno; I mean, I'm sure they're under-rated...but think about Perfect Dark keeping as close with C:SotN as it did and yet it ended up getting...what, #44 I think? While that's still in the Top Fifty -- so no doubt that's good -- I'm not so sure about my take on the situation. Perhaps the four-pack's pretty under-rated AND GE/C:SotN are much more timeless than PD? Pushing it, but possible.....

I'll say this much--Goldeneye would not lose to Soul Calibur, nor anything below it (with the possible exception of SMW, which I don't trust that low). Anything above it is fair game IMO.

I was thinking about it, and I know I'd take MGS and FF10. I'd probably take Halo as well. I'd take GE over SC (I'm not sure the same support would be shown a second time) and FFT as well. SM64 is a push at the moment (it's performed below my expectations twice and I'm afraid it's just being overrated in general), and D2 is a major wild card that I'm not ready to judge yet.

that reminds me, D2 finished 20th I think while SC 18th. did D2 get any kind of linkage? if so, it may be legitimately stronger than SC.

Nope, and www.SCLegacy.com did link for Starcraft. Now, granted, it's a pretty small site and it takes alot more time to do that than simply vote -- not to mention they're both made by Blizzard so the advantage over one-another is likely smaller than for other games -- but I'm not afraid to think Diablo's close to what Starcraft is. We've seen plenty of linking for Diablo and he's shown twice to be a great deal stronger than Sarah "uber-bombed" Kerrigan. Not that those two together guarantee Diablo 2 to be close, but I think it's a fair estimation.

A GE/Halo match would scare me though...we already saw GE/Halo at #7/#9, we have strong reasons to believe LoZ:OoT SFF'd GE to some degree, and we have reasons to believe Halo is over-rated through Starcraft to some degree (and proof that it should at least be under FFX). Add to it about 52% aren't interested in Halo according to the poll about a week ago, and that match could potentially be a huge upset.

From: transience | Posted: 11/6/2005 11:15:47 PM | Message Detail
yeah, I know of SCLegacy and am not underestimating Diablo 2 whatsoever.. I just don't know what to make of it. I want to say it'll be stronger than SC, but I've seen SC in action and it scares the living hell out of me. D2 has yet to prove it's got the same "...oh, ****" factor to it.

and yeah, GE/Halo would be tricky. I'm scared of picking it one way or the other, because the only game I could think of that has any chance of SFFing Halo would be Goldeneye.

D2 also hasn't really had the chance to, either...here. Check out this link to GameSpy's tourney awhile back though:

http://archive.gamespy.com/titlefight/brackets.shtml

I believe the tale of the match you should see (the SC/D2/CS three-way) was that it was essentially a battle of cheating, and you can see who won. It also got 53% on LoZ:OoT, though it should also be said that it got 64% on Fallout 2, too. A very wide spectrum if you wanna try to convert their numbers here (which all of us know better than to do), but it's definitely worth a look.

also interesting is how they did a re-vote a couple days later (looks like a losers bracket?) and the results were 3% different. lol x-stats, indeed.
