Super Mario 64 won't be 11th. Take that to the bank.

Maybe not, but right now I have high hopes for a low-ranking prize or at least get listed on a Top Fifty list if there's one to be shown...that and me still being a lil' surprised SM64 didn't make it, and that's all the justification I'll bother to make for it (though it very well might not be).....

The point values here were calculated by multiplying a game's average score by its number of reviews. This is the fairest way to determine the best-reviewed game.

Uh, what? That's just the total number of points given to the game. In other words, getting a 1/10 from somebody increases the game's score using that system.

Ocarina of Time - 55
Final Fantasy VII - 14
Super Mario 64 - 5
Starcraft - 5
Final Fantasy X - 2
RE4 - 1
Sonic The Hedgehog 2 - 1

the closer 3am comes, though, the more confident I am in FF7.

LttP was too high, FF6 was too low, and CJay's "FF7 all the way!" poll feels somehow... sneaky to me.

I think Ocarina just might be able to pull this off.

By the way, this ought to be the first time I ever see a top 10 fighting game list without SSBM in it. I'm surprised.

Uhh, yeah, I knew that. It was just quicker to calculate it that way than add up all the review scores.

1/10 games need a ridiculous amount of reviews to have their scores increased (read: about 400 more for Big Rigs before it makes the list, which of course will never happen.)

Besides, there aren't any Big Rigs-esque games on the list, so it's a moot point to begin with.

I'm still puzzled why people think this. It was the 4th strongest game in the Spring Contest. Makes sense that it'd be the #4 game on the list.

A better point might be that newer games have an advantage, since they're more likely to get reviews.

Yeah; I imagine the people who say "Hey, what are you doin' tonight? Nothing? Me neither, so come down here and we'll play some Chrono Trigger"

I think it's rather more likely that those people used to own Chrono Trigger, and sold it. Most people sell their old game systems, why else would there be so many copies of CT on eBay?

There's also renting. I rented CT when it was out, and so did many of my friends. I never owned it though, and neither did they.

If there is a top 100 list released, it will probably be released all at once at the same time as the contest winners are. It wouldn't make sense to release the top 100 list five at a time or anything like that. Hyping them up after already revealing the top 10 would be kind of silly. I still don't think we'll get a top 100 list since this is GameFAQs 10th anniversary and the obvious theme is the number 10.

Releasing the top 100, 5 games at a time is completely asanine.

I just hope that it's revealed BEFORE the winners are, so I can build up excitement for myself of whether or not I have a chance at a low prize. COME ON TETRIS AT 11.

Actually, it'd be rather stupid as it'd just postpone the winner because he couldn't just post the scores when the list has yet to be revealed. He should just do it all at once or not at all. There is little to no drama involved in the order past 11-20, quite frankly.

Tetris will be closer to 111. Smooch your entry real hard, because you're screwed.

So, recapping this whole thing... the three filler games were one half the board expected, a small surprise and one no one saw coming, and I didn't have any of the three. Furthermore, the top 6 places were monopolized by six members of the Super Seven, the last one ranking at a lowly 10th place. What happened here? I personally think this is slight evidence that there will be quite a bit of franchise voting in any one-on-one match involving Final Fantasy. That's the sort of thing people were more expecting from Zelda, given the board's underexpectations towards LttP. The fact is, although FF6 gave LttP a heck of a run in the spring contest, when it came to voting for anything among every game ever made, people remembered LttP. They didn't remember FF6.

He said different kinds of contest celebrating the anniversary. I doubt he meant the rest of the top 100 games. Nobody outside of this board is really going to get hyped up about the rest being revealed 5 at a time.

Maybe if we had started from 100 and counted backwards, but not when we already know the top 10.

Yeah, but is he going to just post lists with nothing else at the top of the page now? If he's goin' to, he ought as well post some other games that made the list, too...

...and as for the score issue, go ahead and give us our scores after FF7 is announced. I would think that having five different games at the top of the page would still help garner interest and hits for GameFAQs, which only helps GameFAQs.
