We've already seen two occasions of character polls swinging the other way (Link/Cloud and Mario/Crono). While it should be more difficult for that to happen in a game poll, it certainly is possible, especially when the initial match was so close. If LttP comes back with a better seed, increased casual support, and with the hype of Twilight Princess backing it up, I don't see why it couldn't beat Chrono Trigger. Either way, in a 2006 rematch, I'd be pretty jittery regardless of the game I choose to side with.

Seeding is generally secondary to matches. I wanted to set up FFX/SC and throw the winner at Halo 2, which gets GS in the fist round as an inside joke. Lazy-man edition today, plus this went about an hour and a half longer than intended...but it's still fair enough. As you can see, the after-school vote treated it in two different ways. One, when you compare the good things for LoZ:LttP (yes-GBA's 1.17 + yes-both's .33 = 1.5) to the bad things against it (yes-SNES's 1.07 + no-played's .89 + no-never's .47 = 2.43), the after-school vote didn't go in its favor any, though it didn't hurt it all that much either. You can also use the same numbers and see the same thing about the older-gamers; it fits along well with what SMB3 did yesterday, and it didn't drop as bad as it did either (likely due to, you guessed it, being newer). It fits pretty well with its Game Contest trend, too: barely lost it to Super Metroid, took it against FF3/6, and had the legendary wire-to-wire match that was CT/LoZ:LttP.

I'll agree with that. Besides, Auron would give Squall a run for his money I would think if he was in the list. What I'd be more interested in is to see how close of a correlation those polls keep when the big chunk has to be spread; the gap between certain characters would be cool to see too, but not so much as just seeing how well the correlation stayed.

you know, I'm looking forward to today's poll. I've heard people call CT everything from "niche" to "cult" and I'm really curious how many people have actually played it.

It's definitely niche and, depending on your definition, it could be cult too...but a poll here won't solve that issue; we all know this site doesn't show the general taste of gamers and is a special kind of sample. CT benefits from this greatly, though that's not to say it's not respectable on other sites.

I'm gonna go to bed early tonight since the game's already up...odds are that we're gonna see the top five games in the x-stats be the top five games on the list, and they're all in order too. A year and a half ago the x-stats show FF3/6 and SSBM at #6 and #7, yet this week the list shows SSBM and FF3/6 at #6 and #10...

...I'm not asking who wins head-to-head though, but, rather, this: does this affect your thoughts on how a SSBM/FF3-6 match would go? Does it make you think harder about the match or make you more confident, or do you feel it holds no bearing to their contest strength?

well, I find it hard to believe that any game can be "niche" while being #3 in popularity at a major gaming site. if you're gonna call CT niche, you've gotta call all of GameFAQs niche and remove the idea of a "casual vote". I don't buy that.

as for SSBM/FF6, I was thinking a few months ago thay my "upset special" in a new game bracket would be SSBM over anything not the big three, not counting Nintendo SFF. turns out I wasn't alone in this thought and that SSBM was thought of highly by others too. SSBM/FF6 I'm goin' SSBM on; SSBM/LTTP is more confusing. I'd probably take LTTP in that one.

..though, at the same time, I don't think either GTA title is even near the top 10. I think both might be as far out as #20. so I guess you could call GF "niche", sure, despite GTA dominating the FAQs in ways only FF has been able to do.
