I agree; I can see people picking it over 95% of the field when it's simply not that strong.

It's a very arguable point, but I'd go as far as to say Halo would be the favorite again in a rematch.

Though I will give SC this credit, I doubt the ability of ANY game to beat it if the match comes down to a photo-finish. Take that as you will.

let's try posting this in the right topic this time:

wow, at the moment one third of GameFAQs owns the GBA version of LTTP. here's its sales number, as of a few months ago:

59 GBA ZELDA: LINK TO PAST NINTENDO OF AMERICA Dec-02 1,365,159

and compared to Mario 3:

28 GBA MARIO BROS 3: MARIO 4 NINTENDO OF AMERICA Oct-03 1,775,022

Holy crap, those are impressive sales. You can certainly criticize Nintendo's tendency to milk their storied franchises, but they know how to make some ****ing bank.

the awesome thing about Starcraft is that its strength is absolutely unknown, despite having had four matches under its belt. you just get the feeling that it could get 45% on anything, even FF7. put Starcraft in a bracket and it's guaranteed to cause a debate no matter where it is. the only game that's even close to Starcraft in unpredictability is Mario 64, and that's because of what OOT did to it.

yeah, people wonder why companies like Nintendo and Square milk their franchises so much, but it's because of the sales numbers. hell, check out Mario Advance 2 (Mario World):

12 GBA SUPER MARIO ADVANCE 2 NINTENDO OF AMERICA Feb-02 2,454,874
13 PS2 KINGDOM HEARTS SQUARE ENIX INC (CORP) Sep-02 2,376,635
14 GBA POKEMON RUBY NINTENDO OF AMERICA Mar-03 2,358,883
15 PS2 MEDAL HONOR FRONTLINE ELECTRONIC ARTS May-02 2,291,959
16 PS2 FINAL FANTASY X SQUARE ENIX INC (CORP) Dec-01 2,270,819

I'm goin' to bed, but here's something worth pointing out:

Sundays are traditionally the day of the week that GameFAQs gets the most traffic, which is when GoldenEye 007 nearly got 74,000 votes in its poll. Yesterday, Super Mario Brothers 3 got just shy of 80,000 votes in its poll.

From: transience | Posted: 11/2/2005 12:18:37 AM | Message Detail
..and considering how yesterday's poll showed that less than 4% of the GameFAQs population first played Mario 3 on the GBA, I'd say it's pretty unlikely that the GBA version of LTTP is much different. whether or not you believe the re-introduction of a game onto a current console will give it a significant boost is up to you though.

From: HaRRicH | Posted: 11/2/2005 12:22:36 AM | Message Detail
Yeah, but today's poll isn't about which you played first. This is which copy/copies you own. That'll make a big difference.

SERIOUSLY. Bed this time, promise.

yeah, which is why I used the Mario 3 data; if Mario 3 sold more and had less than 4%, I'd assume LTTP would have a similar number.

LttP was Board 8's #6 favorite in this contest, as 78 people out of 86 in the BOP picked it to make the list;

3 in 3rd
20 in 4th <-- correct, me
14 in 5th
21 in 6th
7 in 7th
3 in 8th
8 in 9th
2 in 10th

In addition, it's Board 8's 5th favorite game, with 144 points and 23 Top 10s made. It also has the second most first place votes behind FF7.

my thoughts on FF7 at #2: FF6 finished lower than the consensus expected, 007 higher. LTTP is going to finish higher as well, assuming it makes the list.

Nope, this is pretty much where I expected it. I put the entire top 5 of the Spring Contest in order, heh. Looks like it won't let me down.

If GTA: Vice City didn't make this list it would be a very bad representation of the Gamefaqs crowd.

However, if CT does make it at least Goldeneye is the most popoular non-Squintendo game of all time. Which is unexpected...

Ocarina of Time is more likely to finish third than first, in my opinion. Chrono Trigger the game has proven to be a beast in the nominations department, and as someone pointed out, nothing beats FFVII. I fully believe there are people on this site who would literally die for FFVII.

Off-topic...but could somebody explain to me a lil' 'bout the +Mode in Chrono Trigger? To my understanding, it's supposed to be earned immediately after you beat the game, and I think it lets you keep all the things you had from the save-file you beat it with (from experience and levels to weapons and items) when you start a new game from the beginning.

Is that right, sorta, or wrong?

Funny how it's the complete opposite of ToS, where you can't keep your items and levels but you can keep everything else.

You keep your level, techs and most of your items. You lose all your money so spend it all on Hyper Ether or something like that before you beat the game. In New Game + you also get the option to challenge the final boss starting from around 5 minutes into the game.

To get New Game +, you need to do the Crono thing and beat the Black Omen. I'm not sure if you need to do the other side quests at the end of the game.

Yeah, two of them were overrated to begin with, and they merely got exposed. Crono was relatively constant. He just had some let-downs by our standards because we expected better of him.

I'd still take Chrono Trigger over Link to the Past in a rematch and feel fully confident in it.
