Tetris making the list would bring a smile, laugh, and **** out of me. Likely in that order.

ah, good call. here's one from 3/29/04:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=1573
that's 3%, and they're only asking which your absolute favourite is. still doesn't convince me.

Bah, transience posted it before me, bah. It almost seems like FFX-2
took away from FFX's gap from FFVI. It's almost the same margin of
closeness if you add in FFX-2 on top of FFX.
Still, seeing FFVIII that close to FFX makes me want to see it in a contest.

yeah, I'd speculate that the 2.44% who chose x-2 probably liked x as
well; although, it's likely that at least 2.44% chose III thinking it
was VI.

I'm not opposed to FFX making the list...but I'm opposed to FFX making
the Top Five when FF3/6 got #10. Then, again, Halo and SSBM have
already made the list at #9 and #6 (respectively) and they both got
seeded higher than FFX in the same division (and they all have
generally the same contest-strength as well).
I'll be amazed if it makes the list still, but it HAS to be in thirty minutes if it's gonna make it.

But there's a very good reason why FFX was seeded lower than SSBM and
Halo in that division, so that shouldn't even be a viable excuse.

I also forgot to mention I don't like the idea of FFX being ranked closer to FF7 than it is to FF3/6, either.

Right, but at the same time, Halo and SSBM are mmuucchh more to the
Xbox and Gamecube than what FFX is to the PS2. It evens itself out or
could even go against FFX's case, depending on your stance on that
issue.

but it goes the other way, too - the Xbox has one huge title. the
Gamecube has two, SSBM and WW. the PS2? it's got the MGS series, DMC,
KH, GTA.. yet FF10 got the most nominations. of course it's going to
get less nominations when you only get one nomination and you've got a
library full of big games.

Xbox'll feature the game with the most write-ins too (though I'll still concede this point). MP outseeded LoZ:WW in the Game Contest. While that is a testament to FFX still gettin' a 3-seed, MP and LoZ:WW got 4/5-seeds; of the three Gamecube games that made it in, all three made the Top Five, SSBM out-seeded (and defeated) FFX, and MP/LoZ:WW were directly behind it in seeding. That too is a testament.

ah, my bad for forgetting MP. to be fair, the difference between 2 and
3 could be 1 nomination or a hundred, we'll never know. as I said
before, I don't put too much stock in nominations.. I'm just trying to
explain why FF10 only got a 3.

I'd be all behind FFX, except it being ahead of FFVI on GameFAQs just seems very...wrong to me. But other than that, yeah...
Oh, and it looks like Goldeneye was the first game on the list that didn't end up making the Top Ten on its day. Shame, really.

I thought #3 fit it perfectly, myself. Great high seed, interesting
position in the bracket...I mean, besides FFTA/FFX (replace FFTA with
ICO; though I never liked the game, ICO VS FE7 would have been a
difficult match I think and coulda avoided what we got in round two).

I could beat all of the individual levels of Bart's Nightmare but
Maggie's Temple at any given time. However, I could never beat enough
levels in one setting to get higher than a D.... (-_-)

Random idea while waiting: let's say Ehrgeiz were to somehow by an act
of Satan get into the games contest, BUT in each of its matches it got
a picture of Cloud, Sephiroth, and Tifa (the main playable FF7
characters in that game). What do you think its floor and ceiling end
up as?

Let's just say the format of the new games contest allows for what I
have proposed. Basically, I'm just trying to gauge the picture factor
of FF7 characters without any name recognition whatsoever.

Well, it won't be beating any Zelda games with that format. I can
definitely see it thrashing something like Contra or Pong, but it would
in no way be a monster. I'm certain people would put it ahead of Mega
Man games, and that would probably be a mistake. I mean... Ehrgeiz?
