Yeah...man, did Chichiri call this one on being likely over-rated, too?
If so, that's two-for-two on those kinds of calls from him (I know he
did on Halo, and I think he did for this). Damn him and his sensibility.
I had SSBM at #4, myself.

I had it at #3... I figured it is the
game (not named OoT or FFVII) that would get the most universal love.
Not exactly top 3 material on many list, but the game to make the MOST
lists (outside of the first two of course). I had Chrono Trigger at #4.
I'm interested to see how this ends up.

I think this pretty much solidifies that SM64/FFX won't be making any
upsets, and that the Super Six was the right pick after all. Unless of
course, an outsider decided to sneak its way into the top five...

And, of course, today marks the first intra-division seeding upset of
the list. The only way we will avoid another is if a game from Division
8 ends up making the list over LttP, like LoZ.

The top 5 is now obvious:
1st: Final Fantasy VII
2nd: Legend of Zelda OoT
3rd: Super Mario 64
4th: Chrono Trigger
5th: Legend of Zelda OoT
That's right no 8-bit game will make it....
Just you wait >_>

Poor showing for SSB:M. I thought it had complete upset potential too.
As for the top five, I think FFVII, Chrono Trigger and LoZ: OoT are
locks, with Super Mario 64, Super Mario Brothers 3, LoZ: LttP and FFX
all have a chance. I suppose Starcraft could also make an appearance,
but I would group that with the GTAs and assorted other Sonic and Mario
titles as 'major darkhorses.'

*laughs at all the people who thought SSBM would actually be in the top 5*
Told ya. It was obvious it just couldn't stand up to most of the other elites. Then again, it's board 8's favorite game, so of course you people needed to think too highly of it, right?
83 out of 86 BOP entrants had SSBM somewhere on their list, and it was the 4th (no kidding!) favorite:
2 in 2nd
16 in 3rd
17 in 4th
15 in 5th
13 in 6th <-- correct
11 in 7th <-- me
4 in 8th
2 in 9th
3 in 10th
As I said, it's Board 8's favorite game, with 233 points spread out among 41 people:
3 in 1st
6 in 2nd
5 in 3rd
6 in 4th
3 in 5th
2 in 6th
4 in 7th
3 in 8th
5 in 9th
4 in 10th

I think SSBM being #6 could be interpreted as either a very good sign for Nintendo, or a bad omen.
It could be good as there could be many Ninty games above it (Ocarina,LTTP,SMB3) eating up it's votes.
But then it could be bad, because it would have been thought to rank 6th 2 years ago, before it was bundled with the cube and before the Ninty boost.
If it's the latter, it must be said that SSBM vastly overperformed in Spring 04.

If and when another Game Contest arrives, I think we should absolutely insist on a MGS/GE match. They're nearly equally-seeded (GE-3rd and MGS-4th, coincidentally enough) and were both the second most-nominated games on their systems, both are suspected to have under-performed against the two contest behemoths -- GE probably moreso than MGS, which works out good because GE is under MGS in the x-stats -- though x-stats don't matter much when it's two years later, and now they're side-by-side in this list, with GE being 7th and MGS being 8th.
This is a match that simply should happen.
...why? MGS would likely win with ease.

SSBM being this low does surprise me. And once again, the daily poll
doesn't correctly work for me, there's no "no, but it's on my shopping
list" option. Same as Halo didn't have a "no, I don't own an Xbox [but
I love the game]" choice.

Ah, looks like SSBM isn't going to rank that highly, after all, like I
said. People were giving that game too much credit, just like I thought
with Mario 64 (*knocks on wood in case it shows up tomorrow to spite
me*). Melee is a casual's dream kind of game, but I didn't figure it
had enough to displace the classics.
And #5 will be Final Fantasy X, proving that it would've beaten SSBM if it hadn't been for the most unfair match picture ever.
...What? I can dream.
