time to do some research. besides the "super six" (FF7, OOT, CT, SSBM, Mario 3 and LTTP), we've got one game left. here's what our top six Gurus have to say it is:

1 Sephirot 5 0 - GTA:VC
2 Shivan 6 0 - Mario 64
3 Kaxon 6 0 - Starcraft
4 voltch 6 0 - GTA:SA
5 BadBFG 6 0 - Mario 64
6 Harrich 7 0 - Mario 64

..meaning that if FF10 somehow sneaks in, I still have hope! *wakes up*

I'd think LoZ:LttP; while I just argued for it being up, I can argue for it being off too. It mainly revolves around the Game Contest's seeding though, and we know that routine already.

Yeah, but LoZ:LttP is competin' with arguably the second-biggest powerhouse in the contest. SMB3 is the 4th-7th biggest powerhouse (depending on your stance) GameFAQs has to offer and is competing with two games that isn't of our mighty Super Seven.

I like how Super Seven (or six, I guess, since one's been beaten) has become our new Noble Nine. that makes me smile.

anyway, while LTTP is definitely competing with a stronger game, the Zelda series is also stronger than the Mario series is here; heck, LTTP did better vs. CT than Mario 3 did. now, I have Mario 3 as #3 in my entry and think it'll do well, but if one game is going to slide way out of the top 10, I think it'll be Mario 30. I just can't see LTTP being below both Halo and MGS.

I also like how it went from a Super Seven to a Super Six, because the same criticism that plagues the Noble 9 title can be applied here, as well. It's largely our expectations that make them super or noble, and already the 7 are down to 6. I just think it's funny that our (collective) expecations are already one off, but we still expect the other six to show off without any problems.

I wouldn't say that - some (hi) are predicting LTTP next, while others SSBM.

this makes me ask, though - MGS or FF6, who wins in a contest setting? I'd say FF6 without thinking much.

METAL GEAR SOLID?!? I... I don't know what to say. At all.

The difference between a single-elimination tournament and a FFA exists, sure, but it shouldn't be that large. The #8 most popular game on the site just doesn't get beaten by a full third of the field in a bracket contest PLUS those who were SFFed below that (Super Metroid, for instance). There almost HAD to be SFF in FF7/MGS... that means, by ricochet, FFT's got some scary power in its own right.

A ginormous 24 people had this huge upset happening somewhere in the BOP. That's more than a quarter of all the entrants! It was 14th favorite to make the list, while FF6 was 7th and Halo 8th.

Wow... this is a bit shocking. FFX>SM64 and/or SMB3, so don't expect to see both those Mario games on the list. Recency will play a big factor here I think.

I'm happy for MGS, even though it means that I have no chance now. Great to see the series getting some love on the front page. I think the final 7 are pretty much a lock now; the order is the only thing in question. The only possible unexpected game I could see would be SMW taking SM64's spot. I really don't think anything else has a chance. It will certainly be interesting to see the top 100, if Ceej gets around to posting it when the contest's done.

Why is everyone so sure SM64 beats out SMW, anyway? There was a poll a while ago and it either failed or came very close to.

And CJayC will have little choice but to post the top 100, or at least let it piece it ourselves, unless he completely hides where our points came from (for example, if I could see I got 13 points with KH, that means it was 23rd).

The idea's nothing new, but this seems to be a definite indication of something like that happening. You don't score a measly 28% on FF7 and then make a top 10 list. You just don't. That means, it's even more back to square one in the event of a new game contest than we previously thought. It's not entirely impossible for OoT to have SFFed Goldeneye in a similar fashion (SotN and Perfect Dark just plain stinking it up in the final X-Sts was decent indication as well). Though, why would've FF7 and OoT SFFed MGS and Goldeneye? They're not the same kind of game, not at all. All they shared was the console.

when i think about it it's funny that my two favourite series are FF and MGS. so in a way the fanbases do overlap cause a lot of my friends like both series a lot.so there must have been SFF cause a lot of 13-15 year olds i know that prefer sony to xbox seem to like both series.but in those cases it's usually MGS that is more popular

An overlap is not enough. For SFF to occur, the ratio of FF voters to MGS voters must be higher when facing each other than when facing an unrelated game. And among people you know, according to what you say, that ratio would be lower, and that means rSFF.

So yeah, puzzling. Why would that ratio be higher for two games that have nothing to do with each other?
