Explanation of Extrapolated Standings:
http://sc2k5.com/drupal/node/11

Simple Explanation of Extrapolated Standings:
A = Strongest Character
B = Character Weaker than A
C = Character Weaker than B
To figure out a character's Xsts Percentage ---> [(CvB)(BvA)]/50 = CvA
To compare how C would do against B ---> [(CvA)/(BvA)]*50 = CvB
To figure out how B would do against A ---> [(CvA)/(CvB)]*50 = BvA

And I'm the only pick for Super Metroid? Bah.

I have it,too! It just didn't feel right for Samus to not have some representation on the list...granted I only had it at ten, but, hey, you never know...

As a fun fact, notice that the three games we've seen thus far have all had remakes/ports of some sort; FF3/6 went from the SNES to the PSX, Halo went from the Xbox to the PC, and MGS went from the PSX to the Gamecube.

Super Mario 64 is lookin' nice right now with this trend.

Hmmm... so far, every game on the list has been either the #1 or 2 seeded game for its console. While there are only three games so far and it may not be wise to establish any sort of trend yet, I can't help but wonder if LttP really has such a good shot of making the list if it isn't next. Same with SM64. This makes me feel better about my FFX pick, anyway >_>

Not a knock against Starcraft, but it was the only game from the top ten in the SpC2k4 X-Stats that I had literally NO faith in making the list whatsoever. I even gave WW a tiny shot.

And speaking of X-Stats, this is officially now my favorite X-Stats upset ever--from 23rd place to 8th, even when splitting votes with MGS2 and MGS3. Even moreso because I predicted its place correctly as well. ^.^

...and YES, it counts as an X-Stats upset!

StarCraft ain't makin' it in. FFX probably won't either. In that case, I need SM64 and SMB3 to chime in really soon if I want to win.

From: HaRRicH | Posted: 10/28/2005 10:02:49 PM | Message Detail
I'm pretty sure LoZ:LttP will be next; outside of my entry-bias, you can still see a topic on the SNES board where LoZ:LttP is quite literally toe-to-toe with Chrono Trigger in a nomination-method like what we had. Also, with The Boost (TM), it might help its cause out. Then, while being seeded noticably lower than FF3/6 in the Game Contest, it still beat FF3/6, so I think its shot is still good, though I don't think it'll be any higher than #6.

heh, not that we should take anything from this little contest, but the whole "FF7 SFFs MGS" thing now has three pieces of evidence: FF7 annihilating MGS, Liquid Snake getting masamune'd by Sephiroth, and MGS jumping to eighth place in the GameFAQs top ten.

I've just realized that, assuming we have all of the Super Seven in the Top Ten, that we only have one more surprise-game left; we already know we got Halo and Metal Gear Solid. I just can't see much question of Super Mario 64 being the other game now, personally (though to each their own)...

...now it's just a battle of placement.

I'm not sure what would be more surprising tomorrow--having a non-Super Seven game other than SM64 not make the list or actually having another Super Seven game make the list, meaning that an outsider beat it out.

I thought that the second we got MGS (mostly due to my stunning fall from grace) - that M64 and the super six seem to make the most sense from here out. now that MGS has revealed itself as the "mystery game", everything makes a bit more sense.

Just as long as SM64 and LoZ:LttP are the next two games (more than capable), my score is lookin' to be impressive; I have 7 points right now, and I had LoZ:LttP/SM64 at #9/#7...so, no matter the order of those two, if they're the next two games up, I have a very good chance to do well. In a best-case situation, I could finish with all ten games listed and a total of ten points. Man, how I would love the hell out of a finish like that.....

From the Guru topic:

I heard some talk yesterday about how #8 was going to be the entry-killer of the Contest... and boy, where those people ever right! To me, the shocking news is not that we fell from 21 "perfect" (2/2 on putting in the right games) Gurus to a mere 6 today, but that even THAT many were able to correctly predict the huge popularity of MGS.

It appears that most Gurus were thinking along the same lines as myself. Sure, the MGS series has been a Contest beast in the form of Snake, a character who has never broke a sweat while getting top seeding in the Summers. But games-wise, the seeding for neither MGS nor MGS2 was too impressive back in '04. And with Twin Snakes having faded, and what must surely have been a split in interest between MGS, 2, and now 3, there was no way it would have the strength to muster 10th place. Let alone 8th!? Again, this is simply stunning to me.

And to everyone! Only 15 of the 58 Gurus thought enough of Snake's title to add it to their lists. That's a mere 25.9%.

But if you think you've got it bad, think again. You can thank your lucky stars that you're not Ed Bellis, jonthomson, or meche. These unfortunate fellows have yet to correctly pick a single member of the Top Ten, after having been thrown a loop by MGS today. Better luck tomorrow, guys!
