I also have SM64 at #8 and SMW at #10
Ditto. And I don't even like SM64 that much. Just figured that it was THE Mario game of the 32-64 bit era, and probably his most popular game in the last two generations (not including SSBM). Plus it's re-release on the DS probably sealed the deal for it, as it introduced a whole new demographic of gamers to it. (SM64 DS wasn't on the list right?)

Like I said, if you play FFVII on PSX/2 and play Chrono Trigger on
PSX/2, you're going to prefer FFVII. Anyone who prefers the FFC-load
Chrono Trigger is lying.
I only played the PSX versions of both.
CT >> FF7.

Meh...I'm sad that FFVI only got #10. ;_; I think my entry has it in
5th...bah, it was 6th before. I thought there'd be more FFVI fanboys
than this...it almost freaking beat Zelda: LttP. Considering Zelda:
LttP probably gets more casual support than FFVI, I expected FFVI to
get more support than LttP among the more hardcore...meaning it would
do better than LttP. Heck, FFVI got a higher seed than LttP, too. But,
I was very wrong in that. Oh, yeah...and this leaves too much room for
FFX to slip in ahead of FFVI.

Does this mean he'll have a new Top 10 every day, or will he just have that list up for the whole contest?
CJayC is actually accepting various top 10s from the users. Ulti made a topic about it somewhere.

In just under five hours, the "No, and I've never even played it"
option gained over 3%. I'd do the after-school vote thing, but FireFox
froze up on me earlier and now I can't (damn). I believe all the other
options went down to some degree too though.

Trying to extrapolate something.
A is the strongest
B got 7.69% on A
B got 52% on C
Using this formula: [(CvB)(BvA)]/50 = CvA
Would this be the correct setup?
[(48x52)x(7.69x92.31)]/50
I think that's right. However, I get an answer somewhere around 30000. What is the problem?

FACT or FICTION: There will be one game in the top ten that is not one of the super six or any of the following:
SSBM
Final Fantasy VIII
Final Fantasy X
Kingdom Hearts
Super Mario World
Super Mario 64
Super Metroid
Metroid Prime
Halo
Halo 2
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
Metal Gear Solid
I'm going to go out on a limb and say FACT

I really can't see SC getting higher than ninth. if it's not next, I don't think it's in.
I think by the time we get to #6, we'll have a good idea of who's won the Guru contest. unless we get a big surprise, that is.

Fiction. I don't see Starcraft as more of a nominations beast than
FFVI, especially when it wasn't even the most nominated PC game last
Spring.

Agreed on both counts. After #6, the only surprise really left is if SSBM gets in the Top Three (assuming it makes the Top Fine) or if FF7 somehow loses.

I don't. You can make a very good case for SMB3 or CT at #3, and a fair one for SSBM or LttP. We'll probably know what the "extra" 3 slots are by then, but we still won't know the remaining order.

Bah. It wouldn't have mattered anyways, as I had Halo 2
at #9 before I took it off. Looks like those saying people wouldn't
feel like writing in Halo 2 and just putting in Halo were right. Even
IF a number of people put Halo 2 on the list, they probably put Halo on
the list also...
This makes me really wonder if GTA:SA is going to make the list...

Oh, and, since Halo reminds me, I'll still sig-bet with anybody that
Halo 2 (or any other write-in) doesn't make the list, though I doubt
anybody wants to take me up on that now. If Halo 2 does make it in though, it'll be very soon...like, next.

Halo? Now I'm somewhat surprised. Barely over 40% of the site visitors
even own the console that runs it... and still it beats out every other
game ever made save 8, but including FF6. That's scary... with FF6 so low, I expected filler like SMW, SM64, Wind Waker... but Halo?

Time for another BOP feature... 39 people out of 84 saw Halo coming;
1 in 3rd
1 in 4th
6 in 5th
3 in 6th
5 in 7th
8 in 8th
10 in 9th <-- correct

Additionally, Halo came in 52nd for favorites, with 23 points and 5 picks:
1 in 4th
1 in 5th
1 in 6th
1 in 7th
1 in 10th
Halo was nowhere to be seen on my entry.

Maybe because most of that 40% XBox ownership like Halo and have it somewhere on the list as it pretty much is THE XBox game, while everyone else is conflicted on what games to put on? (Metal Gears, Mega Mans, Metroids, Marios, etc.)
Hooray for alliteration!

If FF10 was going to be on the list at all with FF6 at #10, it was going to be at #9.
And I seriously doubt MGS is anywhere, seeing how it's not even the most popular inside its own series.

Oh, and before we get into the Spring Contest 2004 stats (which aren't
the most reliable pieces of data to begin with), I've asserted for a
while that FFVII SFF'd MGS in some way.
And, no offense, but anyone who'd take MGS2 over MGS1 in a head-to-head match is an idiot.

MGS2 > MGS would be tempting man, it's hard to deny that. A
generation newer and ahead in the stats as a 15-seed can be
comforting...though I agree something minor happened in FF7/MGS, and I
think anti-votes could affect MGS2, too.
It'd be tough for me to pick, I know that.

At least you're honest about it.
Seriously though, Metal Gear Solid 2 is NOT (and I emphasize NOT) the most popular game in the series. If you know ANYTHING about the fanbase, you know that it's the original.

I still don't trust the Spring Stats since the divisions were grouped
by Generation. With a bunch of games being so related, I don't like the
fact that the strength of ALL the games in a generation were based on
how one single game stood up to another generation.
Especially since FFVII was the game of that generation... I think that most of the games it went up against in that generation may be underrated.

There is something that fits horribly badly in that last post of yours,
Leonhart. And no, it's not you saying the most popular is MG for
NES/MSX.

Heh, I originally had Halo the Second at #9 and I swapped it out for
SMW. Not that it really would have mattered, but it's kinda funny.
Maybe you've heard me complaining about it... but I actually have Halo 2 as #9! ARGH!

Right now, MGS >> MGS2. I'm not enjoying MGS2 at all. MGS is the
one that has all of the classic characters togehter in it as well.
Liquid Snake, Grey Fox, Revolver Ocelot, Psycho Mantis, etc.

So, wait, people don't really have a problem with SMB3/CT or CT/FF7 as
far as generational power goes, despite one capping off the bracket's
Mario/Crono feud and another being the two most popular Square RPGs on
the site, yet FF7/SSBM is problematic?
Granted, I don't always trust much of the 128 Division either, but it's hard to have a problem with FF7/SSBM and not the other two.
As for the MGS1/2 situation, I prefer MGS to MGS2...barely. Both are in my personal Top Ten though.
---
Serious Reminder: Nominate Jay Solano for 2k6.
Why? He believes you're a sexy beast. He'd go straight to HotOrNot and give you a 10.
