I'm *very* surprised that VI is this low, even though I had it at 7 (I think, anyway). I thought VI had more nomination strength than this, if not as much actual contest strength...I will be even more surprised if there are more than two other Square games (FFVII/CT, duh), and if Chrono Trigger still manages to take 3rd.

And I like the "1 day at a time" thing. It builds suspense in a contest that sorely needs it. Until the last two, of course.

I haven't lost faith in FF10 yet.. I don't see much of a reason for it to be automatically below FF6. it's the only FF on the most recent console - that has to count for something. FF6 has to compete with Trigger.

FFVI being this low makes me a little worried about A link to the past. It got a 6th seed in the spring contest and FFVI a 2nd seed. Then again I didn't think FFVI would even make it to the top 10.

Contest seeding has little bearing on this, though. It gives you a good idea of which ones to look at seriously, but it's not the whole story, I'd imagine this just means that FF6 has quite a few diehards but not neough general likers to fill it out.

My Guess is that Halo is next, BTW, but I'll be rather dissapointed if it's any higher than 9th.

Just posted these Day One results in the Guru topic, but I'll throw them up here as well.


4 Gurus are still in the running for a Perfect Entry; they correctly predicted FF6 to finish 10th overall.

5 Gurus were very close, having picked FF6 to finish in 9th place.

8 Gurus are still looking good, having taken FF6 in 8th.

12 Gurus are in a little trouble; they took FF6 in the #7 spot.

6 Gurus are in hot water, having picked FF6 for 6th place.

2 Gurus had FF6 5th, and 1 even had it 4th! They'll need to be near-perfect from here out if they want to win.

16 Gurus didn't have FF6 in the Top Ten at all, surprisingly. Because we don't have any firm Score for these Gurus they've been moved to the back of the rankings... But really, despite the fact that they can't put up a perfect Top Ten, they're not in all that bad a shape. It's just a case of hoping that the 1 of their 10 that's going to be pushed out was a game with a good chance of finish 11th or 12th (something like FF8 or FF10 looks to be a good bet right about now).

I think you're in pretty good shape as long as you have the games on your list. I have FFVI at #7, but I wouldn't say I'm in hot water. The biggest threat are the people who have it exactly right at #10. For those that don't, it means that they also have another game in the wrong spot as well. And whose to whether or not it's the right game in the first place?

Hmmm...With the Super Six and Super Smash Bros. Melee pretty much assured of making it in, there's 3 slots left over. The best guesses for those slots are:

I've already said that I don't expect to see any other Square games besides VII and CT, and I'm going by the summer contest results to say that I'd expect more Nintendo games to fill their places as opposed to the "casual" (MGS/H/GTA) games. The only so called "casual" game that I bit on putting in there is GTA:SA. My reasoning is this. First of all, GTA:SA is probably considered the best in the series, and it is also the one being currently played. Recency was probably the biggest factor in me putting it on the list... although I only have it at #9.

Halo and Halo 2 give each other too much competition, especially when Halo 2 wasn't even on the list. There will be those that write-in Halo 2, and there will be those that just choose Halo. I think that hurts both games in the long run.

MGS also has the unfortunate situation of having to compete with each other. Which one is the consensus favorite? MGS is a generation removed, but still gives MGS2 much competition. MGS3 is the most recent and currently played of the trio, but is it the most popular? Unless people are putting all three on their lists, I don't think they have enough gathered support to be a Top 9 game on this site.

Well, FFVI is on the list. Not very surprising, considering it's the second most popular installment of the biggest series on the site. I had it at #6 or #7...I can't remember which.

More interesting right now is the Top 10 obscure games by Ceej. Does this mean he'll have a new Top 10 every day, or will he just have that list up for the whole contest?
