I remain unusually confident SMW won't make the list, though I'd love to see it up there.

Heh, I'm on the opposite side of the spectrum with regards to that one. I'm confident that SMW will place higher than SM64.

I think Super Smash Brothers Melee is being overestimated. I just can't
see it beating out some of the biggest names (FFVII, OoT, Mario 3,
Chrono Trigger). I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see it tomorrow.

Tomorrow, Gamefaqs will gain every creditibility it has lost during all this contests. NO 8 will be Gunstar Heroes.

Seriously, I think Sonic 2 will be the next game on the list.

After just witnessing Halo beat FFVI, there's no doubt in my mind that
SSBM definitely has the ability to outrank Chrono Trigger. Whether it
actually does or not remains to be seen, but I'd be pretty surprised to
see it outside of the top 5.

Huh...Didn't notice that until just now, but FFVI jumped up into the
top 10 FAQs today. Maybe generating some more interest for it, perhaps.

It's funny how people always point to this as the reason
generational divisions are problematic... when the strength of a
division is ALWAYS based on how a single division winner stacks up
against another division winner. The real reason generational divisions
are questionable is that there's a lot more possibility for SFF inside
the division than there would be if the generations weren't segregated.
*sigh* But no other contest had the same correlation within the division that the games contest had. And that's to go on TOP of all the potential SFF within the division. It's really a moot point though. You can trust the Spring contest X-stats if you want...
I think Super Smash Brothers Melee is being overestimated. I just can't see it beating out some of the biggest names (FFVII, OoT, Mario 3, Chrono Trigger). I honestly wouldn't be surprised to see it tomorrow.
I have SSBM at #3. My main reason is that although it may not make the top of many lists, I'm fairly certain that it will get on a large percentage of overall lists at some spot. Think about all the fans that this game reaches out to. It pretty much is THE Nintendo game of the generation. And look at the correlation of XBox ownership to Halo ownership. SSBM is the Gamecube's version of Halo, and we know that Nintendo > Microsoft on this site. I agree that SSBM could pretty much land anywhere on the list, but I'm betting that it's Top 5.
Huh...Didn't notice that until just now, but FFVI jumped up into the top 10 FAQs today. Maybe generating some more interest for it, perhaps. Who knows?
How are the Top FAQs determined on this site? Is it how many hits the individual FAQs of a game receives? Or is it all activity on the game's info page (codes, boards, etc.)? Either way, a direct link on the front page would play some role in that. But then Halo is nowhere to be found yet... So I really cant say...

yeah, I think we can ignore that racist post.
SSBM is a funny game - I (and I'm sure many others) thought it would lose to either VC or FF10 in the Game Contest, but it ended up beating them both. now we all think it's going to do very well, some as high as #3. it really could go anywhere.

Well, I predicted SSBM's path correctly in the Spring Contest (and even
won MMX's Prophet Challenge on FFVII/SSBM, shameless plug, yo). Yeah,
it's THE definitive GameCube game, but I don't quite think that's
enough to get it that high.

I thought SSBM's path was obvious, although it may have been for the
wrong reasons. I figured it was probably both the most universally
loved game in the division. All the other games I figured had their
haters (WW, GTA, Halo) or simply weren't as popular as SSBM (Metroid
Prime, MGS2, Kingdom Hearts). The only game that I thought might
give it a challenge was FFX, and I personally didn't care for that
game. I wrote off the rest of the games in the division (didn't know a
thing about Starcraft).
The biggest giveaway for me was that SSBM got a #2 seed in the division. I knew Halo wasn't going to win the division, so SSBM was my first choice.

Heh, I had LoZ:WW > SSBM...to me, it seemed like SSBM's path was
close-yet-obvious (in the same sense of Tidus/Shadow) BEFORE lock-down,
but then I doubted it in every match it was in after it faced MGS2.
Funny how that works.
I stick by SSBM gettin' #4 on the list for now though; while it could be as early as tomorrow, I can barely imagine it any lower than #6. Don't forget that, on top of it being the best-selling Gamecube game and most well-received from our generation of games (in terms of our board's current general opinion and the 128 Division a year and a half ago), it is now also packaged with the Gamecube for all sales. Let's also consider how Nintendo impressed this year and that SSBM is the newest game that we feel is practically a lock on this list (not to mention it's had great staying power), and I just cannot see it being lower than #6 at all.
---
Serious Reminder: Nominate Jay Solano for 2k6.
Why? He believes you're a sexy beast. He'd go straight to HotOrNot and give you a 10.

The Xbox vote came in big for the top option and the bottom two; the people who weren't interested in Halo for whatever reason dropped while the people who owned both rose. However, the people who just owned Halo and not Halo 2 dropped (for both the Xbox and computer). Considerin' Halo 2 outsold Halo and the two are undoubtedly the biggest games the Xbox has to offer, not to mention they're the same series, I can understand this...though still kinda weird.

Impressive. As of this writing, 38.43% own the X-Box version of Halo.
Based on the poll from two weeks ago, 40.25% own an X-Box. That means
95% of all X-Box owners here have Halo for it. NINETY-FIVE PERCENT.
There's not a single game on Earth that can compete with that (although
the percentage in the actual market is closer to 25%, and more for Halo
2... does Halo 2 still beat out SM64 there BTW?)

That's why CJay shoulda ditched that fourth option for "No, but I've

inanimate god of multi-player for so many people and FF3/6 is an RPG, I
mean, come on.....

well, now that we're into what I assume is the 11th hour before #8 is revealed, here's the results of my prediction topic:
Starcraft - 19
SM64 - 10
FF10 - 10
MGS - 7
SMW - 5
SSBM - 5
FF8 - 5
LTTP - 4
KH - 3
Mario 3 - 3
Sonic 2 - 2
WOW - 2
Metroid Prime - 1
Earthbound - 1
SOTN - 1
GTA:VC - 1
GTA:SA - 1
Super Metroid - 1
MGS3 - 1
007 - 1
SSB - 1
my thoughts: wow, I did -not- expect Starcraft to get that kind of love. it's almost like people went 'well, SC barely beat Halo, so it's gotta be next!' I would have expected SM64 to get the most votes, but that's a landslide right there for SC.
another funny thought: if we never had a game contest, would SC get more than a couple votes?

I had FFVI getting to CT, but I didn't know/remember how much of a flop
Kefka was. Had I known, I would have had it lose to LttP, but winning
it's four pack (MK? EB? Doom?) was pretty much assured even if you
thought it was weak. If we hadn't had a games contest and all I had to
go on was Kefka and Terra's matches, I definitely would have had X or
VIII on my list instead of VI.

wasn't even very close, considering CJayC had to include it in an

to this day, I'm still shocked a game that never even came out in
Europe beat the most important fighting game of all time (and also my
favourite). there have been bigger shocks and that's just turned into a
fad, but still, that was a sad day for me.

Yeah, like Europe matters.

I mean, I figured being associated with Mario alone would make it a
threat. I just figured with so many Mario games in the bracket, that
people who at least liked SFII would rally for it...
Of course, I never thought about people *gasp* voting for ALL of the games in a series... ¬_¬

Well, that was my error in Division 16 as well.
Stupid Sonic 2.

I'd be hard-pressed to think of a Mario game that would lose to Sonic 2. I think even SMS would beat it.

Why do I have a sudden urge to see The Wind Waker staring at me at #8?
I mean, it technically is THE Zelda game of the generation (until TP
that is...) Of course nobody expects it, but I wonder what the reaction
would be if it WAS on the list?

Wind Waker making the list wouldn't overly surprise me, but I wouldn't bet on it.

Symphony of the Night needs to make it after the topic I made. That would rock.
