it was a 2 seed back in Sp2K4, meaning it did have a considerable amount of front page nominations.

Whee, the only half-decent competition it had in the GB department was Pokémon RBY. Sorry, I can't take that 2-seed seriously, especially when Phantasy Star got a 5-seed for the same reason. Tetris is a game lots of people have played, but nobody cares much about it.

My thoughts:
1. Final Fantasy VII
2. Ocarina of Time
There's really no disputing these two.

3. Super Mario Bros. 3
4. Chrono Trigger
I think CT still wins in a match, but the fact that Crono is seemingly never seeded highly and the swing towards Nintendo made up my mind. CT's top seed in the Spring contest, given its competition, was mighty impressive, though, and you can certainly make a good argument for placing it third.

5. Super Smash Bros. Melee
This seemed like a good spot for it...it was highly nominated in the Spring, and it has a fair amount of power.

6. Link to the Past
7. Final Fantasy VI
I know I want these two at 6 and 7, but I don't know if I want this order...FFVI nabbed a 2 seed in 2k3 despite competing heavily with CT, while LttP only managed a 6, behind Super Metroid and SMW, but LttP was stronger in the actual competition. I think I'll leave it this was simply because I like LttP more.

8. Halo 2
I really don't think write-ins are going to be that big of a deal, and between Halo's 1 seed and MC's 3-3-1 I'm pretty confident in Halo 2 making the list.

9. Super Mario 64
The 7 seed worries me, but it was competing with the inarguably more popular OoT. I think SM64 was SFF'd pretty badly, which would further back that argument up. I'm going with it here for now, but I might switch it with Halo 2 before all is said and done.

10. Super Metroid
Choices for the 10 slot: SM, SMW, FFVIII, FFX. Of the four, Super Metroid had the highest seed in 2k3. Of the four, Super Metroid is more likely to place higher on people's lists. Of the four, Super Metroid has the potential to be the strongest (you saw what Nintendo's #2 did to Samus...what could Nintendo's #2 do to Super Metroid?). Of the four, I like Super Metroid the most. So there you go.

5 Nintendo, 4 Square, and Halo 2.

RPGuy's list is similar to mine, although I don't think a Metroid game will make the list. Super Metroid may have had a higher seed in the spring, but that's only based on one game only per nomination. I think there are more people overall that like LttP although it may not be their number one choice. I'm fairly sure that overall you'll see LttP on a lot more lists than Super Metroid.

I also had two major debates:

1. Super Mario World or Super Mario Bros. 3? Although a quick poll (and bias) quickly led me to that decision.

2. Final Fantasy X or Final Fantasy VI? I'm wondering how much recency factor will play in this. Final Fantasy X is pretty much THE Final Fantasy of the current generation. And with the huge PS2 ownership, I'm sure it has a lot of fans on this site. HOWEVER, watching the character battles, it would appear that FFX may be losing some of its luster, especially since 2k3. Bias is definitely pushing me to pick FFVI, but it's still a toss up.

I think MGS3 can be ruled out, personally...but, between MGS and MGS2, it's a coin-toss which one makes it and another coin-toss IF one makes it. I have MGS at #9 on my list; it was a system on its own (as opposed to MGS2/MGS3 sharing the PS2), came first, and was the second-highest nominated game from the PSX in its division (only behind FF7). You can still make a great case for MGS2 (x-stats showed MGS2 > MGS, even MAKING it into its division is a big accomplishment, think it sold more, more recent), but I'm gonna stick it out with MGS1.

My analysis is almost the opposite - I would probably take SMB3 in a match today, but I think this system favors Chrono Trigger. SMB3 inarguably has more exposure, but CT beat it before by being more liked by the people who have played it. And with this system, I think placing high on some lists will score better than placing lower on more lists.

Yeah, and I don't blame anybody who does put it on their lists. It doesn't hurt that it was ranked #4 in the stats of the Game Contest, too, though it only being the fifth most nominated SNES game hurts its case alot (not to mention another year and a half has passed for the aging game as well).

A GTA game could bite me in the ass, but GTA:VC's seeding last year didn't impress me and I'm cautious with GTA:SA. Not that I don't think it'd be stronger here, but CJ and Tenpenny are decent reasons to suspect a not-that-much-greater performance.

Then again though, being GameFAQs's GotY this past year could be exactly what does the trick for it. It's not a game to be forgotten about when considering the list.

While Crono doesn't get the lovin' in nominations that you'd expect of him CT itself got a 1 seed in the most difficult of situations. I think it's fairly obvious that the SNES slot would be the most contested, with ease, and CT still took top in the division. Don't underestimate it.

I think it's safe to say that VC is still king of the GTA games. Let's face it, the 80s were cool, that makes VC the coolest in the series.

That aside, I don't expect a GTA game in the top 10. I expect this to turn out quite differently than front page votes go. There are fewer casuals and a lot more people that will take the time to remember older games. It's not an impulse vote anymore, after all.

I'd assume it'd take at least top 3, but I have a feeling there are enough people who are going to get real lazy* like me and just pick stuff off the list. The people who'd make it number one will still be there in about the same numbers, but people who would put it in the lower half may just forget it if they don't see it.
