I haven't read anything, but I don't see Halo 2 on there and that worries me. I'm also rather mad at some of the snubs. only three of my top 10 make the list, getting sacrificed for stuff like Adventure.

Blah, this is hard...only 10 games? FF7, OoT, and CT are locks...I can't guarantee any others. SMB3 and FF6, most likely...probably LttP and SSBM...

I wonder how the next gen games will do...that won't be easy.

Could a GTA game make it? If any's capable of making it, it'd be GTA:SA as it's fresh on people's minds. Of course, that's not to say that GTA:VC could more votes...however, I REALLY doubt GTA:VC would make the Top 10.

As for Halo 2...it's not on the stupid list. I figure too many people will be too lazy...so I guess it's safe to say that it won't make it. HOWEVER...Halo 1 might actually steal some of Halo 2's votes, as it's the only Halo game on the list. So, I think Halo has quite a good shot of making the list.

I can't count out WoW, either...it's rather new, and it's insanely popular. I'd expect WoW to make the list before Starcraft.

SSBM will PROBABLY make it...after all, SSB will be virtually no competition for it, and almost -every- GC owner has SSBM. It seems like I don't see it TOP very many favorites lists, which is the only thing that's a minor concern.

Could FFX make it? Personally, I'd pick FF6 to make the list before FFX (or FF8)...so, I'd have to guess that it won't. Kingdom Hearts might have a slight shot, come to think of it, since it IS one of the few popular games that doesn't have any sequels to compete it.

I'll say right now that I'll be shocked to see any MGS game get on the list...there's just much competition within its own series, this generation, and Nintendo/Square.

You know, maybe it's just the paranoia and popcorn talking, but I can't help but think that Ceej has some ulterior motive for this. Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that we're having another anniversary contest, and I love the premise for this one. It's just... I think it's a little too close to a BGE contest to be mere coincidence.

It would certainly make it easier on Ceej to have the bracket become the top 64 scoring games. And if that's not his focus, I'd really hope to see a top 100 list.

It'd probably be somewhat safe to see how many people predict certain games to be on the list, but that's it...the only game-related contest we've had was a year and a half ago. While those stats probably aren't COMPLETELY useless now, that's more time than even before (the biggest gap between same-themed contests has been about ten months), plus you have to factor in the new voter pool we have that's come along since last year and that this isn't the same kind of game contest as what we had in April/May of 2k4.

I wouldn't trust it much.

Oh, and since you said summer predictors...you would then need to make conversions from characters to games, which could be dangerous if you're wanting to pull that card out. I doubt LoZ:OoT, CT, or Sonic 2 should be the favorite over FF7 (though I wouldn't rule out LoZ:OoT).

yeah, I knew someone would call me on the games->characters thing. what I was thinking is how Kefka always does great with the bracketeers and how MC and Crono had the same prediction percentage for their match.

obviously, not everyone's bracket is a favourites bracket.. just something to think about.

Wow, another Contest already! And I love this idea... it's no replacement for a second Great Game Contest, of course, but should be fun to predict/follow along with nonetheless.

And yes, I would be more than willing to run a "Guru Contest" for this Top Ten. Though essentially there wouldn't be much more to it than the sig bet aspect... no leaderboard or updates or any of that. But that's fine by me.

Problems: Firstly, were the seedings even accurate as to total nominations? Personally, I think that they are, but others have argued that CJay must have messed with them in places in an attempt to create matchups (like boosting PD up so it would have a shot at GE in the second round). Even assuming the first point to be moot, these ranks remain impossible to determine because of what must have been a wide discrepancy between the eras, in terms of what a seed was worth. If you think being 5th or 6th in 8 Bit is just as impressive as doing the same in 128 land, you've got another thing coming. I tried to account for this in my 25, but we'll never know how successful I was.

And finally, even a perfect Top 25 wouldn't be all that useful, because you have to remember that these picks were submitted under an entirely different (and entirely horrible, incidentally) nom system, with that one game per system cap. But is an old nomination listing more useful than an old X-stats listing, given that the group who nominates has vastly different tastes than the group that votes in polls? (As SC's 16 seed and LttP's 6 seed can attest to.)

Come to think about it, I recall the top 100 games list I did on Newgrounds, where Vice City was higher than San Andreas, and Goldeneye won everything. If the average GameFAQs user was slightly different, I'd stick in Goldeneye as an upset special. And putting in VC instead of SA is tempting.
