Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 264

Nobody in their right mind thought he had any chance against Crono.

Very true. Unfortunately, I read several posts of that nature myself. A sad state humanity has found itself in.

Vincent. Is. Getting. His. Own. Game.

I want you to repeat that a thousand times.

Nah, I'm too lazy so I'm just going to agree with you.

The only Noble 9 character Vincent would have a chance to beat is Snake.

I'm not worried about Vincent being in. he'll make it.

I don't know why you'd argue about the ff7 characters at this point, though. we all know what's coming and no one agrees on how much it matters. end of story. same with the Zelda characters.

What the hell? Final Fantasy VII sold more than Ocarina of Time and Goldeneye. And these were purely N64 and PSX titles.

Sorry, FFVII did not outsell Goldeneye or Ocarina of Time.

In the US, at least, FFVII sold 2.5 mil, while Goldeneye and OoT both sold well over 3 mil.

With Japanese figures included, FFVII probably outsold Goldeneye, and maybe OoT, but definitely not Pokemon.

Given a 2003-esque voting shift, I can potentially see Vincent being able to take Snake, Mega Man, or Sonic. I'm not saying that he's a lock or he has no shot, I'm just claiming that it is most definitely within the realm of possibility.

yeah, I'm just curious. sales figures always fascinate me, because some games that should never have been bought end up high while others are nowhere to be found. I'd be most curious on the Square games such as Xenogears, Chrono Cross and FF9.

1. Super Mario 64 - 11.91 million
2. Mario Kart 64 - 9.87 million
3. Final Fantasy VII - 9.1 million
4. Goldeneye 007 - 8 million
5. The Legend of Zelda : Ocarina of Time - 7.60 million

Now, there's a rough sketch of the Top 5 for the Nintendo 64/PlayStation 1, but I know there have been one or two other PSX games to sell near 8 million copies worldwide. I just need to find a list...

Geez, why are people talking about "how higher" Link could get over Cloud next year. In my opinion, Clinkiroth and Mario should NEVER be allowed in the contest scene again. Clinkiroth's sheer power has certainly been established, and although Mario's is a little shaky, I feel that he is still deserving of the 4th spot.

Sorry, FFVII did not outsell Goldeneye or Ocarina of Time.

Yes, it did. By about a million, in fact.

In the US, at least, FFVII sold 2.5 mil, while Goldeneye and OoT both sold well over 3 mil.

That 2.5 million number is out of date. It's a little over 3 million the US, I believe at this point.

With Japanese figures included, FFVII probably outsold Goldeneye, and maybe OoT, but definitely not Pokemon.

I'm not including the Game Boy games into the list, unless he wants me to include them, in which case, it'll be dominated by them. Speaking purely of N64 and PSX here.

Alright, HM. For you, I'll assume that DoC is an excellent game that everyone loves, and that there is another increase of voters who favor Square characters causing a huge voting shift benefiting their strengt- I mean "KH2" boost to help him over Mario, and Tifa too! And Cloud and Seph would be over Link! Maybe even Tidus and Squall can fly up and be elites too! And we can all watch along while riding on our magical pink elephants.

Yeah, overly sarcastic, but I'm still not changing my stance. Vincent is being overestimated. 'Nuff said.

Now speaking of magical pink elephants, I'm off to bed.

Hey HM, has any game this generation outdone GT3's 17.62 Million copies? That's getting pretty close to SMB3's record...

GT1 and GT2 are pretty high up on the PS1 list in all likelihood, with 10.8M and 9M copies sold, respectively. IIRC, SM64 and MK64 are the only N64 games above that, and I don't think any PS1 games are.

So wait, AC's affect two days after being leaked when barely anyone had bothered seeing it yet is greater then what it's full effect well be? I don't follow.

Exactly, just like Mario Sunshine.

What? GTA: Vice City and Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire are the best-selling games this gen, both selling around 12 million worldwide. Nothing besides GTA3 or GTA: SA even comes close.

I hadn't realized it was that high -- last I checked it was about 13.5 million -- but in either case, no, nothing has surpassed it.

GT1 and GT2 are pretty high up on the PS1 list in all likelihood, with 10.8M and 9M copies sold, respectively.

Indeed. I just found those out.

Where did you get those figures from, HM?

I have all of Nintendo's million sellers over the years into one Word file, along with Square's, but there's no one large source if that's what you're asking for. Although I can provide you with everything I do have saved.

Given that each contest season attracts more people to the stats topic, I'm guessing we can go through about 1.5 topics per week. And for an offseason, that's fast.

And HM, I think those sales are off. I thought OOT cleared 10 million with ease.

I fully expect the CS&D pace to dramatically slow down after a few post-contest debates, as people try to conserve topics to be spread out over the off-season. We have plenty of time to debate the fate of Clinkeroth, the details behind the next Game contest, what makes a good match picture, stuff like that.

don't forget about the possibility of a Female Character Contest!! ^_^

actually, i talked myself into thinking it is already a given that i will be quite disappointed if we don't get a Female Character Contest next spring. then, i think that 2K7 will be a good time to have another Game Contest, because this current generation will have completely died off by then and had enough time to begin settling into our more permanent opinions.

and btw - by seeing things are too hectic lately, i was referring to myself personally, but yeah, i never liked it much when we run through a topic a day. it's hard to keep up with even when the rest of your life isn't very hectic.
