I think the only time that I haven't voted for Mario was Ness and Bowser, and both of those were out of pity. Mario over Cloud was by far the best day in contest history.

Me too I also pity voted Adventure, but if I wasn't so in tune of the contest I would have never had.

I can't think of a character that I've voted for every single time.. besides someone who's been in like once, of course. Samus is close, but she had to go up against Yuri.

Really? I've done it with Pac-Man, Sonic, Mario and other characters. Close ones are Yoshi and Mega Man.

I definitely voted Adventure. of course, I'm probably the only person on this board who has Zork in their top 25 list.

I'm trying to think of the biggest travesties in contest history, matches that just bothered me because they were so wrong. the main one that comes to mind, of course, is SF2. nothing else really shocking comes to mind. I was deeply saddened by how badly super metroid got killed, but the outcome of that match was never really in doubt.

Link's increase between 2k3 and 2k4 wasn't due to TP hype.

It's due to LoZ:CE packaged with millions of GC's over the holiday season.

It gave casuals who were previously indifferent to Link a chance to get to like him better.

I would've gotten 184 points. I only missed Earthbound vs. Doom, Pokemon vs. Xenogears, Starcraft vs. KH, and Starcraft vs. Wind Waker.

The amount of whining in starcraft vs halo and starcraft vs wind waker was really high as well. I still find it hilarious that when starcraft lost it's lead topics emerged laughing at anyone who thoguht starcraft could win. Then the night vote would come and... well the rest is history.

It was packaged with the GCN -- in that time, it sold one or two million units. That doesn't imply "already existing Zelda fans." And the new game will account for a boost, but nothing to "shudder' about. Luckily, Cloud will have games to make sure to get over Link next year.

And I should mention that I'm a big Street Fighter fan as well (Ryu is in my top 10 favorite characters), but SFII isn't quite as good compared to games today. Fighters generally don't age very well.

And as Heroic Mario said, SFIII (or SFA2) would be a different story.
