Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 263
From: UltimaterializerX | Posted: 9/21/2005 9:48:20 AM | Message Detail
You have to go all the way back to Summer 2004 to see a match that was a true nailbiter. Our closest match since then was Sonic/Mega I believe, and that one wound up being several hundred votes apart.

Explanation of Extrapolated Standings:
http://sc2k5.com/drupal/node/11

Simple Explanation of Extrapolated Standings:
A = Strongest Character
B = Character Weaker than A
C = Character Weaker than B
To figure out a character's Xsts Percentage ---> [(CvB)(BvA)]/50 = CvA
To compare how C would do against B ---> [(CvA)/(BvA)]*50 = CvB
To figure out how B would do against A ---> [(CvA)/(CvB)]*50 = BvA

It doesn't have to be a nail-biter to be a great match; Magus/Knuckles still owns anything that happened in 2k4.

Knuckles/Magus was great.

Link/Cloud was fun, too. :P

Nothing, though, is as good as Squall/Luigi and Halo/StarCraft. In any year. ;)

The funny thing is that even though Magus cut 1000 votes off of Knuckles' lead, he's still going down as the biggest bust we've ever seen in one of these things. He makes Gordon Freeman 2002 look like a winner.

The funny thing is that even though Magus cut 1000 votes off of Knuckles' lead, he's still going down as the biggest bust we've ever seen in one of these things.

MC cut more than double (maybe even triple) that against Frog, and the fact that he still lost only makes him a bigger bust. If anything, Magus is still going down as the biggest bust we've ever seen in one of these things despite only cutting 1,000 votes off. That's something.

Nothing will ever beat GF 2002. At least Magus lost to someone with some kind of strength. Gordon Freeman lost to someone who got 23% on pre-KH Aeris. Humiliating much?

Random fact: 2005 Tidus > 2004 Kirby. Not that I'm a sore loser or anything, but I guess that's the closest we can have to a consolation prize.

I always thought was a smart guy

Compared to the visitors we're getting, this " " sure does look smart.

Seriously, other than 2002, I don't recall a match that had nearly as much whining as yesterday's. Not even SF2. Not even last year's Link/Cloud match.

No, not when AC came out. When Link started clobbering Cloud with his day vote. The people who saw AC and were here before the match are people who like FF7, but don't splooge at the mere mention of Cloud. The people who barged in yesterday are those fabled idiots of legend who are unrivalled at creating black holes of ridiculousness and unintelligence. Why, I even saw one of them say he had always wanted to be Cloud. Not to be like Cloud, to BE Cloud.

Since Transience completely messed up the X-Sts' calculations for Mario through Sonic, I'm going to have to start their rankings over from scratch. I also inserted a provisional value for Sephiroth (currently at 55.62%). I didn't change any mode of adjustment, though. (Okay, so this is just so that I don't lose track of that.)

After blowing the everloving **** out of KOS-MOS when the two were expected to have an epic, and coming dangerously close to a Tifa that was hot off the most convincing massacre of round 1? I'd say so. Even then, both KOS-MOS and Vyse took sizeable drop.

Oh, you mean like Squall 2k2, when he got smashed by Snake pre-KH. Or Squall 2k4, when he was SFF'd by Cloud. Squall 2k5 is irrelevant, because it doesn't take Luigi's apparent boost into account.
