And with the clobbering Cloud's taking it makes me wonder what really happened with Vincent. His match was on the day following the leak, so it's possible there was some Mario/Cloud-like spike (a possibility I brought up on the day of the match, but no one thought much of it).

God... I really hope Mario beats Seph, for one, showing he's not invincible apart from Cloud and Link, and two, seeing Mario get absolutely RAPED, and have Yuri end up with 3% on Link.

Interesting. Link's pace is better than last year's Link-Cloud final even though he actually lost the lead at some point in this match (didn't happen in 2004).

Why is Cloud's performance surprising?

There is still room for him to have improved, when you take into account the fact that Link very likely spiked as well. We had uber-Mario just dominating the main bracket....it makes sense that Link, perhaps an even better mascot on Gamefaqs for Nintendo than Mario, might also have some sort of significant boost.

Yeah, there was always a chance that Cloud would gain more and take the match, but is it really outside of the realm of possibilities than Link may have just increased by more?

Two gains in a row from Cloud.

Well for starters the movie had just leaked as that match happened. Barely anyone had seen it yet. Also, I doubt link boosted enough to still get this much on cloud if cloud significantly boosted. There just isn't any evidence at all suggesting that vincent overperformed on crono due to AC, and it's sort of ridiculous given that the movie wasn't leaked very long at all.

To me, this implies that Link got the Nintendo boost last year and not this year, and that there was no AC boost -- either Vincent's performance was legit or he got a Super Mario Sunshine style spike that went for that day but is gone a week later. I'm strongly leaning towards the former, but I could be proven wrong tomorrow depending on what Sephiroth does.

And I suppose this is Cloud's "day" vote -- Crono stalled Mario between ~9:00 and ~12:00, before Mario exploded, and it's likely we'll see a repeat of that here.

Um...are you people insane? As of right now this match has 7500 more votes than Crono-Mario, which finished, you'll remember, with 103,000. This is shaping up to easily be the most voted match of the contest. If you're curious as to why this match has so few votes compared to last year, last year was Cloud-Link was on a weekend.
