If your going to shamelessly echo someone spouting one-sentence absolutes, you could at least get their name right. It was Mugen.

... Er, he did get it right. And "If you say so" wasn't exactly brilliant either. Look at the profile - my AIM and e-mail should give that away.

Link really doesn't want to give up 53% here.

Is this match on pace to beat Clink II?

I really doubt that Advent Children is going to do much for the FFVII crew.

It's a big movie, yes, but only among FFVII fans. If you haven't played FFVII extensively you are almost certain not to give a **** about it.

Besides, Link is still beating Cloud worse than last year, even with the AC leakage.

Mario with 50.42% >_>

Again, I'll say this about Advent Children. I think it will do little to nothing for Cloud and Sephiroth since they are already well-established and have many defining and polarizing moments in FFVII. The same goes for Aeris, of course. However, Vincent and Tifa have a lot to gain. Tifa has fewer defining moments in FFVII than the aforementioned three, and Vincent had practically none. In AC, Tifa was made to not only be more likable, but to have far more important, memorable scenes. As for Vincent, everyone I know who's seen the movie has commented on how badass Vincent's intro was.

yeah, I believe Vincent has a lot more to gain than anyone. I don't think AC is the same to everyone, cause Cloud is already well-established, as is Seph. plus, Vincent may have had one of those "sunshine moments" where the leak hit like a day before his match with Crono.
---
.
From: Tediz247 | Posted: 9/20/2005 6:42:08 PM | Message Detail
I never denied that she had a significant role. She just doesn't have any real moment where everyone says "Wow, I really remember Tifa for doing [moment]." Well, except maybe her boobs.

Even then, Tifa didn't really have the spotlight, Cloud had it. Cloud had most of the game, Aeris had the spoiler, and Sephiroth had the fire walk.

*FFVII SPOILERS JUST IN CASE*

What myself (and my best friend, we've talked about this) consider to be the most memorable Disc 2 moments:

-Rufus stares down Diamond Weapon
-The appearance of the weapons
-Cloud hands over the Black Materia
-Weapon vs. Junon
-Cloud's sequence leading to him rejoining the party

Only in the last one is Tifa a main figure, and even then she's overshadowed by Cloud. She has the attention solely on her much more often in AC then in the game.

*FFVII SPOILERS*

Tifa is there for 4 out of 5 of those moments. You HAVE to take her into the crater, a turning point in the game. Sephiroth poses several questions to her regarding Cloud. Cloud has a specific apology just to her. Sephiroth impersonates her to get the Black Materia. She's the one you have to get out of the gas chamber. She has that nice slapping match with Scarlet. She's the one you control right after that. She's the one who stays with Cloud when he's in the clinic, and she's the one who helps him find himself. She's the one who stays behind at the end of disc 2, and they have their "special moment" together.

Tifa has plenty of scenes where she is distinctly featured.

Meh, I was really trying to get across the point that none of her moments have the impact of the spoiler or the fire walk or any number of scenes involving the weapons. I think it got lost in the arguing that I was trying to say that Advent Children could really help her because she is extremely memorable for something other than her design.

That should be enough to help her. Just like Vincent's intro, Tifa's fight is one of the most talked about parts of AC.

Tifa got very little, if any, character development in AC. she character development was basically that she's a girl that can kick ass. otherwise, she didn't really do much of anything.

---
.
From: Sir Crono | Posted: 9/20/2005 7:04:27 PM | Message Detail
She's a fighter and a girl who is hopelessly in love with Cloud, which is obvious just by the way she looks at him (plus, she's wearing a ring on her right hand).

It makes me angry that Cloud is so dense that he doesn't realize how much Tifa loves him. Bahhhhh.

I've just realized that with this match, I have not failed to call a Cloud/Link match correctly. I had Cloud winning in 2003 (though I had Sephiroth beating him in the finals >_<), and I had Link winning in 2k4 and today. Amazing. <_<

i don't have time to say much, but this struck me as one of the most asinine comments in this topic. so, the 100,000+ people who would buy AC in the first week of it's release will have already illegally downloaded it within that same week. good grief.
personally, i think Cloud would have kept this much closer and possibly even won if Advent Children hadn't been delayed.

I think you're being sarastic, but it already has been downloaded over 100,000 times. It's pretty obscene how popular it is.

Tifa has plenty of scenes where she is distinctly featured.

So you're saying she's not as popular as Aeris just because she's not as likable?

Her fight with Loz was the best part of the movie, easily. It was kinda 'meh'ish until then, but that fight was just absolutely incredible.

I just wonder how strong Crono would be if he actually spoke. ...I'd venture a guess that he'd be top three.

I think being a mute works as part of his appeal. Saying nothing makes a character harder to hate, which could potentially give him more fans then he'd have if he spoke.

y'know. i could probably agree with that. i actually liked Squall until the bonehead started talking. if he was a mute for the entirety of FF8, i most likely would have tolerated him or even liked him a bit.

I know I like Mega Man a hell of a lot more when he doesn't talk than when he does (NES MM > all), and Link is another favorite of mine...so, maybe if Crono said the right things, but otherwise he's probably best off being a mute.

Link seems to be falling in percentage now. Cloud has a small chance of bring Link under 52%. Even if he does, it's still a very dominating performace by Link today. He'll break 55% next year with TP. =D

Heh, now that I think about it...

1-Mega Man
2-Knuckles
3/4-Link
4/3-Mario
5-Sonic

...Master Chief is high on there too somewhere, so I guess my game character-preference is one of few/no words. I love Conker and Solid Snake too though, so it's not entirely one-sided.

Leonhart, talkin' 'bout well-developed, I dunno if you saw it in the other topic or not, but I'm startin' to play FFX thanks to my roomy bringing his PS2. Anything I should know about it before I get much further (I'm only at the second save-point thus far)?

I don't see Link breaking 55% as any kind of a lock, even with TP in the wings. Cloud will definitely have the American release of AC and KH2 by then, along with any other things Squeenix sees fit to milk him with by that time. And there's no guarantee we won't be seeing another demographic shift as well. We could see Link easily break 55%, but we could easily see nothing of the kind.

Yeah, I would recommend being patient with Tidus. If you don't automatically judge him as a whiner and close your mind to him, you'll really appreciate his character growth.

He's not nearly as whiny as everyone says anyway. All of his mentions of "I'm hungry," "I'm cold," etc. come when NOBODY is around. He's just saying how he feels, and it's not like he isn't supposed to feel that way.
