Well we all thought Kratos was going to get owned hard too. I dont know The Prince could register a little above the fodder line.

As for FE, I agree right now but I havent played the new FE game for Gamecube so there could be a stand out character in that.

The Prince may surprise us, especially if he gets his full name ("The Prince of Persia" by the voting bubble) and a picture from Warrior Within. That game sold nicely, was well received, and was a casual buffet. Kratos/Prince would be a great 8/9 match, I think.

Analysis

I think it was a great idea to make a Tournament of Champions. One of the biggest reasons is that both Link and Cloud destroy everything in their path. Only a handful of characters could escape a doubling at the hands of these two. It was a very good idea since we’ve had one of the best contests since the games contest and that most of us wouldn’t get something like 50 free points because of them. Link has only lost once and that was to Cloud, but in the next year Link took it back. Winner of this match will most likely take the winner of Sephiroth/Mario.

First thing to talk about is the Nintendo boost. Every single Nintendo character saw a rise in popularity. You can’t really deny the fact that Nintendo had a mysterious boost. This should also help Link as well. Since he’s already the favorite going into the match this Nintendo boost shall help him even more.

Advent Child, the Final Fantasy movie has been released during the contest, but only in Japan. The North American release was the biggest thing that Cloud supporters had to say that Cloud would win, but since the NA version hasn’t been released Cloud won’t be getting that huge boost against Link. Some say that even though the Japanese is out Cloud could still take on and beat Link and justify it because of Vincent’s performance. Well it could be true, but AC has only been released for a few days I don’t think that it would help Cloud too much. Don’t forget that Vincent was an optional character and not every FF fan knew about him so that would give him reason to gain.

Another theory I want to throw in is that since Kingdom Hearts is getting older could Cloud also decrease in popularity? Sephiroth seems like he’s falling off the face of the Earth, but then again Sephiroth always puts up wacky numbers. If it was true I don’t think it would have much of an affect.

Since this is the first time both Cloud and Link have fought an opponent this year there really isn’t much things to go by. I don’t think Cloud would give Link much trouble and will probably end up playing like Mario/Crono IV did today.

charmander6000’s Bracket: Link over Cloud Strife

charmander6000’s Prediction: Link wins, 54.47% - 45.53%
From: NewLib | Posted: 9/19/2005 4:38:30 PM | Message Detail
I like to see Ken get back in before Akuma personally. As for Nightmare, Yoshimitsu would be stronger than him. He is a fan favorite in two different series that both sell well.

Don’t forget that Vincent was an optional character and not every FF fan knew about him so that would give him reason to gain.

The movie was also entirely about Cloud--and how much he kicked ass--so I would really expect there to be more of a boost from it than for Vincent, regardless of his optional status.

I like to see only one new FFVIII character just in case there is no real strength outside of Squall which is possible since the rest of the playable cast has almost no fanbase. Seifer is the next best thing in my opinion, over Laguna.

I do realize you play as Seifer for a little while and Laguna for a while. But I meant the main cast: Squall, Rinoa, Zell, Quistis, Selphie, Irvine. Quistis has a small fanbase, but outside of that, and Partystar, there really isnt much of a fanbase for the rest of them.

If Cloud wins tomorrow or keeps it close, I'm going to feel obliged to laugh in people's faces over it (and promptly get modded for it, of course). Not because I think he's the favorite, or even that he has that much of a chance, but that people are counting him out so decisively (55% for Link?!?).

I seem to recall people calling for 53% or more against Cloud last year. I just don't think there'll be enough disparity between the two to create a "blowout" situation here.
