Don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but I think there's a chance Snake will go down next year, due to being old in MGS4. Older characters probably don't have as much appeal to the video gaming demographic.

Yeah, BL was resolved through a constant Mario, and I never bought that Mario wasn't SFF'd by Link, just like I never bought that Samus wasn't SFF'd by Link.

I don't think so, Mario has 2 different values in 2k2 and 2k3.

I think they used the LSE and figured out that Link had stayed "relatively constant" between 2k2 and 2k3.

Well, I wouldn't think he would go DOWN from a new game...but I don't think it will give him quite as much of a boost as he would otherwise. If I'm worried about anything, it's Ceej using those MGS4 pictures in future matches, which could potentially hurt him. = /

The problem that Snake stands upon is that Kojima keeps trying to kill him and/or replace him, and has basically only been stopped because the fans would loathe him for it. If he does that, Snake will inevitably fall from grace without any new games to buoy him.

I can see Old Snake screwing Snake over. We've seen that Young Ocelot is most likely stronger than Old Ocelot. Of course that might just be because of MGS3... But still an old look won't help Snake any.

And I think as long as Kojima remains true to the character of Solid Snake, he'll be fine. Heck, that might not even end up being what he looks like. Kojima has pulled stranger tricks before.

The person in the screenshots is *not* Big Boss. The 'eyepatch' is on the wrong side, the person can actually *see* through his 'eyepatch', and the trailer with Otacon pretty much removes all doubt. It's in all probability going to be Solid Snake.

Well I do think so, and I'm just speculating anyway. I don't think the Vincent match proves anything, now as far as the Crono/MC match, I think that might prove that Crono may be weaker than Mario this year.

Vincent had AC backing him up against Crono, something he didn't have against Squall, so Crono's choke job against Vincent is excusable.

What's inexcusable is his choke job against MC, who barely edged out DK, as that would put him around 35% on BL, which is waaay below any of Mario's past values.

Now I do NOT think Crono had dropped THAT much, but he would certainly be the heavy underdog should he ever get to Mario.

I actually think that if there was any noticeable "SFF" to be had in that match it would slightly favor Squall, too.

And I'm hugely doubting that the old dude is Solid Snake. I know we're supposed to be thinking that... but... maybe it's uh... a clone... or uh... Liquid Snake or something. Who knows? Maybe those are scenes from Snake having a dream sequence or something.

Yes, but holding Squall constant makes Crono drop very near to Sonic's 2004 level. I'm really sorry if I don't believe him taking a fall like that, putting him EASILY at his weakest in a contest. There's nothing you can even begin to blame for that either. Crono's been here since 2002 and has either increased or stayed around the same area. Now he just suddenly drops off?

Crono got about 61% on MASTER CHIEF, someone who nearly equaled Donkey Kong.

Donkey Kong has obviously benefitted from this Nintendo boost. He certainly wouldn't be one to avoid such a thing. Master Chief certainly did not plummet like you're trying to talk about.

Really, how much do you want the movie - a leaked japanese movie - (that many weren't going to even consider for much of a boost when it was released in English here) - to have done for Vincent?

I always believed that when he overperformed like he did, it was the movie doing such. Very few, if any, expected a performance like that from him. It's not farfetched or unlikely to believe that Advent Children was the cause of that. Especially considering that the movie is far more popular than just here at Board 8 or even GameFAQs. It's been huge all over the place and the vast majority are liking the movie, that's an even bigger key. By no means was this something that only hardcore fans of the game liked. I don't think Crono has remained completely constant from last year, but I also don't think he took such a drop that he would need to for his match against Vincent to fall in line with Squall being held constant and Vincent being just a smidge above that.

Heh. His older look actually made my opinion rise of him, for whatever reason. I used to be rather indifferent to Snake, but now I actually kind of like him--not that I'm suddenly going to start saying he's something amazing or anything. But with MGS4, I couldn't imagine him going down.

I don't see what's wrong with this. Seems like Ryu did just that this year. Characters increase or decrease for little reason at all. They don't need a new game, they don't need a reason, they just do. Fluctuation in the voting pool, brother.

I fail to see how you could compare Vyse, someone who is on the fodder line, to one of the strongest characters in this contest. For him of all people to take some arbitrary drop makes very little sense. One could at least provide some reasoning for Crono to take such a large drop--by assuming that Vincent is a little above a constant Squall.

I'm just glad that this isn't far away from being decided.

Huh. Here I thought that Vyse was the most consistent contestant ever and the reason that Tifa would beat Sonic, or, failing that, the reason that Sonic was on the level of Samus and would beat Mega Man. We've seen Magus and Frog do terribly, and it's been speculated that Crono would too after the first round. Unless DK is suddenly at 31% on BL, which we all know isn't the case, Crono has fallen. That should be very easy to see, and that's ignoring Crono's pathetic performance against Vincent altogether.
