The fact that Cloud is as strong as Link from one game is insanely impressive. Link would not be anywhere near as strong with one game to work off of because he is simply not THAT likable of a character. But it's pointless to argue such a thing.

The same could be said for Crono and Mario.

I still don't get MC though.

How in the name of all that is holy could he overperformed by leaps and bounds against Crono?

He performed like **** against BOTH CATS and DK!

But then he broke 38% on Crono...

I think it is because MC is the least transitive character ever. He's one of the most anti-voted character in the contest, but he also has a pretty big hardcore fanbase who will vote him over nearly everyone...

Definitely fact - the finals always get more votes, and Mario vs Crono historically has also been highly voted. It will be interesting to see whether it gets more votes than Link vs Cloud though.
