If Bowser beats Snake then Kirby could beat Zelda. I won't buy that in a hundred years,

It's not so much about being surprised about what Kirby did against Bowser. It's more about me not thinking he could do that against Snake, or even beat Zelda.

She also impressed greatly against Vivi, and went up against an unrecognizable Snake with an OOT pic.

Yet she still managed to lose to Snake.

So, Bowser might come closer than Zelda did, but he shouldn't pull off the upset.

Kirby still crushed Tidus though. Bowser/Kirby was awful for Bowser, and I admit, it severely dampened, if not erased, the upset potential in my mind, but Bowser still has an outside shot at Snake.

I'm not the person to know how to do this, but based on Megaman's performance against Tidus, Mega/Snake, and then Tidus against Kirby, and Bowser/Kirby, what would that predict for Bowser/Snake?

And who says that her young OoT version is her preferred version. And it's not like she performed horribly on Snake. I never expected her to beat him. Everyone just assumed she'd give him a scare based on her first round match against Vivi. I don't know why everyone is holding her so high now... I'd take Bowser over Zelda in a heartbeat...

A fair assumption. I think it's a toss-up. Snake could actually beat Bowser worse than Zelda or Bowser could take a close one. But I just don't agree with people who say that Bowser has no chance... If he DOES win, it is indeed a huge upset. But hell, it was one I was willing to take.

My views on the pictures

Mario/Samus-Basically even
Snake/Bowser-Solid Bowser advantage
Crono/Vincent-Massive Crono advantage-it's impossible to see Vincent in that background on low brightness, while Crono is clearly visible.
Sonic/Megaman-Essentially even. Megaman might get a slight boost, since he looks like he's going faster than Sonic.

I think Sidharta was saying that Zelda had more reason to increase because of the Zelda: TP hype. Anyway, Zelda did show strength, as she beat Vivi handily. Meanwhile, even though Zelda lost to Snake, Snake verified his own strength by destroying Sora.

Well, 2k3 is the last solid read we have into both chars.

If the Nintendo boost is what gave Bowser his current strength, then it should also apply to Zelda.

So if Zelda couldn't pull it off even WITH the Nintendo boost, why would Bowser be able to?

And honestly, I haven't seen any of my friends play or mention any of those games that you mentioned.

Mario Kart and SSBM is all I've ever seen them play, or heard them talking about.

The main thing is theres no reason at all to believe Zelda's anywhere near 2k3 levels. In 2k3 she was most likely stronger than Ganondorf thanks to Magus being overrated to all hell. Now why wouldin't she get the same boost he did? It makes no sense.

If anything, if Ganondorf was truly as overrated as SC2k3 suggests through 2k5 Magus, then he had to get some sort of a boost to beat...well, Alucard in 2k4. Seeing as how Link boosted in 2k4, that would be the easiest thing to pin it on. And if Ganondorf boosted from that, it's easy to postulate Zelda did as well. Throw in the 2k5 Nintendo boost in addition to that and you're set.

*sigh* And I was finally getting a little comfortable about this match, too...

You have to consider that boosts don't necessarily have to be from a character being more popular due to a new game. It could also be the new games bringing fans of those characters TO Gamefaqs, and thus changing the voter demographic.

And with the influx of Nintendo games that we've had this past year, I would be willing to believe that is very much the case.
