Not cracking 63% on Master Chief is bad news for Crono. Even considering that I think this is "peak" Master Chief, due to the picture.

Crono certainly has to be considered the underdog against Mario now, and a large underdog against Samus. And Sonic/Crono is not obvious anymore (and maybe this makes Mega Man look not as bad anymore; note that I wouldn't be surprised to see Mega Man's stock make a comeback next round).

Note that I still don't think Snake would be favored against Crono. I think Sora should be able to beat MC, but remember that Snake had the huge pic advantage (with the most beloved picture ever), whereas Crono suffered from it.

Crono's pic is fine, but obviously Master Chief clearly has the best picture he's ever gotten. This was noted before the match, and plenty of people including myself expected him to due better than otherwise because of it (though not to this extent, which is why Crono does look bad).

Talking in speculative terms, I believe that Master Chief's weakest large fanbase region would be the fantasy/RPG fanbase, and him having a laser sword here would help his appeal with that fanbase.

Exactly. Given that picture, I think most might actually take Snake. Whereas normally most would take Crono.

Analysis

This is the match of the round. It may not be close, but the problem is the board really doesn’t have much of a favorite. Heck at the start of writing this I don’t know who I will choose to win. I’ll probably make the choice as I closely analysis the match.

Dante may have lost, but he showed people that Vincent doesn’t belong with the elite characters, scoring at the exact hundredth of a percent as Kerrigan. Funny thing is that Squall is expected to get around the same thing. Squall on the other hand defeated Mag... err Knuckles and again Knuckles put up great numbers, but this time he ended up losing.

Squall hasn’t really got much of a number since 2k3. He could’ve gain or fall since that time and his match with Knuckles wasn’t what he wanted. Knuckles could’ve easily gained, but Squall could’ve easily dropped. Then again Magus is pretty close to Tidus and using that Squall is very close to his 2k3 numbers. There isn’t really much proof except for Sephiroth (XD) and maybe Tidus, but since Kingdom Hearts has been out for a while Squall could start to fall like they did, but I wouldn’t be surprised is that was not the case.

Vincent is a new character and the only old character in his 4-pack is Dante. Using constant Dante Vincent is very close to Squall’s numbers. Since last year though Dante has had Devil May Cry 3, but out of the three games this is his worst seller. Like I said last round DMC3 would probably only help Dante minimally, I may be wrong though. There’s also the possibility of Vincent SFF Squall because he’s from FFVII. Just because Vincent is from a popular game doesn’t mean that he’ll gain SFF to beat Squall even though he’s legitimately weaker then him. If Vincent does SFF Squall it will be because he’s stronger than him and vice versa.

Weird this is almost the end of my analysis and I still don’t know who’ll the winner will be. Both characters should lose to Crono next round though and my bracket has Magus winning so that doesn’t help. I think it’ll come down to who you think is stronger Dante or Knuckles? That’s another close match, but I’ll probably end up taking Knuckles because I like him better, so Squall it is.

I think it's quite obvious what's happened here. DK has benefitted from the nintendo boost, which made it look like halo 2 did nothing, even though it did. Simple enough, and expected. Well I know someone expected it, and even mentioned it in these topics, but I can't remember who. slowflake maybe?

Hmmm...Anyone else notice that the Spring Contest characters seem to be underperforming a bit now? Crono looked to be fairly stable based off of Vercetti through Spring Kefka, and then this happens. Diablo underperformed against Sonic, and then Ganondorf underperformed by the same amount against Samus, another common hedgehog opponent. Bowser didn't look nearly as impressive as he needed to be against Kirby. Ocelot bombed against Pac-Man.

Not saying that this is the case, but they're certainly underwhelming at this point. Bowser's destruction of Ryu and possibly Ganondorf's win over Auron are the only ones that really looks impressive.

I'm still not buying that they're not overrated. Ryu/Bowser is really weird, but that's the only one. Bowser > Mario vs Sephiroth is just too much for me to believe.

We figured Crono's chances against Samus were around the 0% area, but he's not looking very good against Mario now, either. The only way this performance can be deemed impressive is if Halo 2 kept Master Chief near his 2004 adjusted ranking, a thought so crazy I'm practically laughing as I type this. And of course, if that is somehow the case, Donkey Kong's boost makes the apparent increases his Nintendo brethren received look like crap. At best, this is a mild disappointment for Crono.

I thought it was a consensus that 2k3 Sephiroth =/= 2k5 Sephiroth. So what if the villains contest doesn't line up with the beloved 2k3 stats? It still was a popularity contest. The rules still said as such. It wasn't called Best.Villain.Ever. or anything....

And Ganondorf still has to be given the benefit of the doubt for potential SFF. You can't say they DON'T share the same fanbase when they obviously do. Just because there wasn't apparently extreme SFF doesn't mean that there wasn't any at all. He still did better than I expected him to do against Samus... I wouldn't try to pin anything about that performance on the Villains contest being skewed.

Master Chief is probably the same strength that he was before. It's just that he is odd in these contests. He'll underperform against those weaker than him and overperform against those that are stronger. Anti-votes and a dedicated fanbase really make for interesting and unpredictable matches. Don't worry about Crono. He's fine and he's still making the finals. He's not going to win against either Samus or Mario, but he will make it to them.

Y Halo thar online multiplayer? And it wasn't Halo 2 single player that was a dissapointment... it was the cliff hanger ending that had people disappointed. Plus there were people that didn't like the fact that you had to split time playing as Arbiter as well. I actually enjoyed the single player of Halo 2 much more, as it was more story oriented, and the environments were much more vibrant... It just started out very slowly.
