Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 235

Ganondorf is just too strong for Samus to SFF.

It'd be something if Ganon was nearly as high as his spring value indicated. =p

But either way you look at it, this match should tell everyone who thought Samus would SFF Mario that it isn't going to happen.

Lucid, what Samus is doing here isn't really impressive. Summer 2004 has Ganon scoring almost exactly 40% on Samus.

Yeah, Samus isn't SFFing Mario if she can't SFF Ganondorf. If any character benefits from SFF in that match, it will be Mario himself. Samus is probably getting minimal SFF in this match, but it's only enough to cancel out how strong Ganon was in the spring come time for the stats for this contest. Another year, another underestimated value for Ganon :(

What Samus is doing here isn't impressive compared to last year, I'll give you that much. However, last year's Samus was a monster compared to the rest of the non-Clinkeroth field.

And if Ganondorf benefitted from that Nintendo boost (have you seen how he demolished Auron?), then it's not foolhardy to say Samus could've boosted proportionally either.

the so-called Nintendo boost shouldn't matter for Samus/Mario, since they would both theoretically receive it.

and was that sarcasm, or did Ulti complain about an x-stat value?

And Samus was projected to defeat Mario with 56% before that boost. The thing is, a few characters *coughzeldacough* got left out when Santa distributed boosts. I just want Samus (and, by extention, Ganondorf) to NOT be among these).

Another year, another underestimated value for Ganon

Indeed. Luckily, it isn't nearly as bad as last year, but it's been hard to get a good read on Ganon for a while now. I really had hoped Auron would be here to not have any question on where Ganon would actually end up being. Guess we'll find out pretty soon though.

As for Sephiroth, at this point, I believe Samus would be a greater threat to him than Mario. I'd be rather nervous about Samus winning that match if he were up against Samus while I would be secure enough that he'd win against Mario. Yeah, yeah, SFF. =p

I wouldn't imagine this match being too different from what it already is when everything is said and done. Ganon isn't terrible with the day vote himself. I think it'll end rather close to what it is currently.

Based on a constant Vivi, that would place Snake at 00ber-1337 levels of eliteness, probably enough to be able to threaten Mario/Samus.

I'm sure he gained from MGS3, but I seriously only see that putting him a little over his adjusted 2004 ranking to begin with. I never really saw Zelda boosting much, if at all. Vivi's dropping isn't out there at all. He still would beat 2k4 Donkey Kong.

Mario dropped to Zero pretty quickly yesterday. Unless Samus really starts to bomb here, I still think she can beat Mario. It shouldn't come down to SFF. She should be stronger then Mario without it. At least thats what I'm hoping.

And if you look at it, him going from his unadjusted value -- those stats look to be far more accurated for the 20XX Division -- to his adjusted value, that's a boost of 3.08%. You could add a little more for you're own personal satisfaction, but I can't imagine him being that much higher than the value of 31% or so, based off of how he performed last year.

It's also something to note that adjusted Snake and 2k3 Zelda is projected to be the same margin that the match ended up with.

I just wanted to point out something about the picture. Samus fired her charged beam at Ganondorf, and he's using some kind of energy shield to block it. That's why, from our angle, the majority of the blob is white with a purple ring around it (Purple is the color of Ganondorf's energy) and there's blue around the edge of that (the color of Samus's beam)

Not that this is important to the match or anything.

Go Samus!

I wake up to Samus barely over 60%, a full 5% lower than I had as her floor, and a full 10% from what I thought she would do.

In summary... Mario>Samus. And you can write that down in ink.

Lets say Samus beats Mario with something like 51%. Would Crono/Sonic/Mega Man stand a chance at all?

Nowhere near insane. If Samus cannot SFF Ganondorf, despite growing up on the same system, being a hero to his villain, and solely sharing the same consoles, she has absolutely no chance at holding off a gaming icon, who is a hero, grew up on the same system and solely shares the same consoles, from SFFing her like mad.

Mario with over 55%, as everyone on Board 8 throws metaphorical batteries, beer bottles and hot dogs onto the field for turning what was the most hyped match of the contest into a complete farce.

If it's just 51% on Mario, then Crono has a fair chance. I would say Sonic also has a small chance, but I can't see him winning over her this year since he only got 42% last year.

If we assume that Diablo was not stronger when he faced Sonic then how much is Ganondorf expected to get on Samus? 40%?

And you cannot compare Mario's gaming icon status to Pac Man, as Pac Man is about two decades older, and gamers voting in this contest did not grow up with him, as they did Mario, and Link, and to a lesser extent, Samus.

Wow. Mario impressed a lot yesterday; Samus not so much. She should be able to SFF Ganondorf at least a little. And Luigi broke 45%, which I was confident enough to bet my account on (which nobody took, I think), though I was told that was analogous to giving my account away. Go Luigi! He'll probably end up about where I thought he'd be before the contest (28-30%), maybe a bit higher. Woo.

Samus not getting significant SFF on her opponent today doesn't mean she's going to get rSFFed by Mario. That's still a rare, only theoretical occurance that hasn't officially been noted.

Of course Mario can win but today's match is neither in favor nor against that fact.

I want Mario to win, but I just can't help feel that he could bomb...

All we've seen him do is SFF two weak characters and possibly expose and overrated one.

Samus on the other hand has credible reasons to be beating Mario. Owning fodder. Scoring 18% more then Snake on Frog and breaking 60% on a character who basically is the noble line.

I still say Samus....
