Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 235

It's amazing how weak the likes of Jak and Ratchet truly are. Consider, if you will, the amount of TV air time they get, the frequency in which their games (very good games) are released, and the fact that they usually sell well. All this, and they still suck so much!

If the early goings of this match are any indication, the SFFness of this one is going to nerf vote totals. It's right around the level of Sonic/Diablo at this point.

Yeah, outperforming seph on gannon is nothing to be taken lightly.

To whoever said samus has never sff'd someone before: Isaac. And if you're looking for actual nintendo characters, there aren't any because gannon is the weakest character she's faced that she could potentially sff aside from isaac.

I'm a huge Metroid fan. Who is Isaac again? Or is this one of those Link/Mega Man SFF things where they've been on the same console at one point.

Anyways, Ganon's shown he can be SFFed, and Samus, er, isn't SFFing him by any noticable amount. That's good for Mario.

i really don't think that Samus SFF'd Isaac. Isaac is from a GBA RPG (Golden Sun) while Samus is from a shooter/platformer. plus, Isaac is not in SSBM. therefore, i don't think Samus would SFF him much if at all.

I find it funny that we try in vain to handicap via SFF, which is completely arbitrary and impossible to gauge. Of course, I'm just in denial about not picking Samus to win the contest. Man, I hate her.

I can't even fathom how Samus would SFF Isaac. here are the games Camelot has made:

http://www.gamefaqs.com/features/company/12672.html

if you're saying that GS is a Nintendo game, then I'll ask where the overlap in fanbase is. you've got a platformer/FPS and an RPG. I've never even thought of GS as a Nintendo title.

Normally I'd agree and just say that isaac was really weak, but felix was waaaaaaaay ahead of him in the xstats, which is hard to buy.

I'm a huge Metroid fan. Who is Isaac again? Or is this one of those Link/Mega Man SFF things where they've been on the same console at one point.

Lead character in golden sun, and a party member in the second one. Felix was from the same series (starred in the second one, barely played any role at all in the first even if he was a key character). It's different then megaman vs. link because golden sun has only been on the gba, and it's made by camelot who have made a few other games in the past for nintendo (most notably mario tennis).

I wasn't sure if it was property of camelot or not. That nmakes things easier to believe, especially when the metroid series is so prominent on gba.

I'm saying there was SFF because it makes no sense for isaac to be considerably weaker then felix. That would be like vincent being stronger then cloud after dirge of cerberus. Well a bit different, but you get the point.

I'd expect another RPG character to SFF Isaac before I'd expect Samus or another Nintendo character to. (Tifa, meet Vyse!) there's just no fanbase overlap there. at least with MM and Link, they're both adventure games/platformers.

There's a fanbase overlap in it being a nintendo owned series on a nintendo system. Almost everyone who plays it is a fan of other nintendo titles.

Samus looks like she's doing about what's expected of her. I would imagine there is some SFF at play here, but not much that's worth noting -- unless, of course, Ganon is higher than his 2003 value suggests.

Looking at the previous updates, she seems to have dropped from 62%, or around there, down to about 61% right now. Pretty much what I would expect out of her. Although she appears to be on a decline in percentage at the moment.

After seeing the final results of yesterday's match, here's how Mario would be looking. His percentage would be 38.37% against 2004 Link -- which is a boost of 3.6% based off of his 2004 value. Samus would be projected to beat him with 51.43% and Sephiroth would be projected to beat him with 54.75%. However, he would be expected to beat Crono by 51.55%.

if that's the case, you've gotta look at the following matches from this year:

Mario/Zero
Auron/Big Boss (I think he was in MGS3? I wouldn't know)
Lloyd/Wesker
MM/Leon
Kirby/Cecil

etc etc. there's probably more that I'm not thinking of at the moment. I believe that genres are more important than companies, myself.

..Which means mario vs. samus is going to probably be one of the best matches of the contest. I really hope it is. We almost never get to see elite characters slug it out all day and night with no definite winner until the end.

hmmm....... i don't like how quickly Samus is losing percentage. Samus vs. Mario could very well be one of those matches where Samus takes the early lead, builds it up until morning, loses the lead to Mario throughout the day, and comes back in the evening to take a narrow victory.

What did I tell you? Ganondorf is just too strong for Samus to SFF. Feels good to be right... once out of 50 matches this contest... grrrr...

...either way, I hope she stops falling like that. The X-Sts predicted she'd get 59%, and she better not fall below that.
