Getting 55% would be shockingly low to me, but I don't think I could bring myself to say Mario/Samus is a lock right now. However, I do think that whoever wins that match wins the contest, hands down. No one else has shown comparable ability.

Indeed. Although I believe it would simply show that Ganon's spring performance is more accurate than was initially being given credit, which would also help out Bowser. But I'm really doubting Samus will only pull 55% tomorrow.

We really don't know. Ganon DID suffer from the most SFF out of ANYONE in this contest, so I wouldn't be surprised if Samus took a chunk out of him as well. You must not realize how pathetic Link made Ganon look. I know it's hero/villain and all, but 12%??? It really makes you wonder how true Ganondorf's fans are when it comes to another Nintendo character...

There ARE 8 divisions though, so the seeding is rather spread... Plus the seeding is more accurate compared to other years. There wasn't really any shifting people around to set up matchups.

I think that's a bit TOO extreme. I think people are assuming that what Link did to Ganondorf was the norm, while I don't believe that's the case. Ganon hasn't really had any opportunity to grow a fanbase independently of Link, and he hasn't even been in every major Zelda game. It just seems more of an obvious case of Ganondorf leeching off of Link himself to an extreme degree (or at least being in a position where his fans are for the most part bigger Link fans, which is understandable). I don't think it's a case where they're not loyal to him.

Bowser does have a large fanbase of people who really like him a lot, not just his games/series, and that didn't stop Mario from 70/30ing him. Same with Yoshi. He definitely has a lot more dedicated fans than Ganondorf, and he still got massacred by Link. Ganon should get owned severely.

Series has nothing to do with the character's popularity though. Ganondorf really didn't have much of a fanbase, if at all, until Ocarina of Time. He probably got a lot more from SSBM. Samus has had fans since her NES days. Many of Ganondorf's fans were probably Samus fans FIRST. Add to that she was in BOTH SSB games, and I could see whatever fans they share deferring to Samus with no problems at all.

Granted, it isn't as large a fanbase sharing as Link/Ganon, but the potential to take a large chunk of the fans they DO share is there for Samus.

Because Bowser faced MARIO. That's why he got 70/30'd. He was able to resist the SFF better because he has had opportunity to become independently popular (thanks in large part to the Mario RPGs giving him a great personality).

And Yoshi faced Link. Nothing else really needs to be said. We really can't say that Ganondorf's fans aren't "dedicated" because he got thrashed by his game's hero, whom the vast majority of the Nintendo fans prefer over EVERYBODY.

I'm not saying that Ganon's fans AREN'T dedicated, but he certainly has the potential for them to abandon him. He is essentially the "newbie" of the elite Nintendo characters, as he didn't REALLY get his fans until Ocarina of Time (similar to Solid Snake not becoming really popular until Metal Gear Solid). Samus may have been no Mario or Link in her early times, but she certainly had her fans... I'm just speculating though.
