Potentially, Snake and Dante have the potential to do some serious damage if they keep churning out high-profile games and if they don't get killed off (though in Dante's defense, I don't see that happening). Mario and Sonic will always have high-profile status, but without the games to back it up they will be susceptible. Mega Man has looked to weaken every single year. Crono and the FF7 crew look like as much a force as ever, but they can't stay on top forever without new games (and the FF7 spinoffs can't last forever, either).

Really, I'd say the only characters Snake doesn't have a chance in hell at touching even 25 years down the line are Samus and Link, as they're bound to keep churning out the games to buoy and even strengthen their popularity.

You know, Tidus didn't beat Claire by that much. It is quite possible that Leon Kennedy is roughly equal to Tidus. He has the appeal of RE2 like Claire and he's fresh off RE4.

Just thought I'd throw that out. Mega Man may not have weakened at all. I know Freeman looks a little high with this... but he did have Half Life 2. I'm going to have to see Mega Man vs Yoshi, first.

Diablo would probably beat Vercetti somewhat comfortably based on their matches with Kefka, and I wouldn't call Vercetti over Leon Kennedy a lock either. Crono's not looking that comfy if you ask me.
