I'm sorry, but I can no longer function normally after Lopen just tried to reprogram me with that Toad > Peach lie.

http://www.gamefaqs.com/poll/index.html?poll=634

I know that this Poll says Yoshi is the strongest Mario Bros. character, but still... Peach barely beating WaLuigi does not speak well for her popularity. Peach would be fodder. Fodder able to dispatch fodder that is unknown, but against any character with a fanbase, she'd be annihilated.

Say what? Cid by no means would be fodder.

Well, since all of you are talking about nominations for Sub-Zero, I have to say that I'd nominate him. I think I nominated him for 2k4 but forgot this year. It's true that he has the pic problem, though, but I think there's a way we can attempt to solve it: nominate Sub-Zero from Mortal Kombat 2. If we put that as the game title, he might get all ninja pics. Note that if those terrible MK movies are canon at all, the Sub-Zero with the scar and no mask is actually the original's brother...so, if somehow Ceej could decipher that the Sub-Zero variants are different, maybe we could increase the odds of the ninja picture.

Probably wouldn't work, but it's worth a shot. Anyway, a few other people who I could probably end up nominating, even if they've got no chance to do anything:

Falco Lombardi - Could be more popular than Fox in the fanbase and has the SSBM factor. Plus, he's playable in Star Fox Assault, IIRC.

Lance Vance - Yeah, I know Tommy Vercetti is sliding closer and closer to fodder, and I know Lance has to deal with the black factor...but I think he should get in. It would be interesting to find out if a GTA NPC could be better than CJ.

Any member of the Leone mob from GTA 3 - Just because I think they're cool. Oh, and Toni Cipriani will be playable for Liberty City Stories, so he's the most likely nomination.

Vectorman - Will win pic factor most times, had current re-release. At the very least, let's get some cool fodder.

Mewtwo - He hasn't made one of these yet, right? I think it's high time that we see whether Pikachu got by on recognizability alone. As a bonus, Mewtwo has to be better liked in the fanbase, among casuals, and also has the SSBM factor.

Just what I think.

The only FF7 characters I'd ever nominate would be Barret (it'd amuse me) and/or Yuffie (best character from FF7, fools!). Yes, I know they have the least potential for contest strength, I don't care.

Too many FF7 characters in these things anyway.

Peach deserves to be in, especially next year, after she's had her own game. I mean, she's the equivalent of Zelda really, and I think she does more for her series than Zelda does in hers. Plus, Peach probably has more exposure than Zelda in her games, and she certainly has more exposure than Wario ever did. Seriously, how did wario get in this contest?

A) Peach is listed as Princess in that poll.

B) M. Bison also did *horrible* in the favorite character polls, but her performed fairly well in the contest.

I also think that a fair amount of Soul Calibur characters could do well in this contest, especially with SCIII coming out soon. I know games don't equal characters, but all four Street Fighter characters have performed respectably and Soul Calibur did way better than Street Fighter in Sp2004, plus it's more recent.

Hmmkay. Tifa taking almost 20 hours to build a 5000-vote lead on Luigi is my shocker of the round, even moreso than the Dream division slaughters. I'm not doing any full-fledged write-up this time (else I'd be 75% done with it right now), but I'll be decerning awards nonetheless, and there's a lot of choices to pick from.

Also, in the next few days I'll be adding a casuals vs. BOP sheet on the BOP file which, I remind you, has moved there:

http://www.freewebs.com/slowflake/bop.xls

So adjust your bookmarks if need be. Though why would one bookmark that is beyond me.

Yeah. They're still newcomers, after all, it's not like they dropped from previous years. Now, if it had been Aeris here, and she wasn't performing up to snuff, then we might have something here. But there's really nothing to say FFVII hasn't increased along with Nintendo, as there's simply no data for either side.

Which still makes Link/Cloud a tossup. Though Link looks to have a probable boost...making Cloud hard-pressed to catch up.

Tifa and Vincent bombing doesn't bode well for Cloud...

They are not "bombing." Between personal expectations and their round 1 massacres, the level people were setting was just far too high to begin with. Most of us figured they would be around that near elite level. They should end up being around there, which means they met reasonable expectations.
