Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 230

I've been on the "Mog is the strongest FF6 character" bandwagon for a while now, though I think Kefka beats out everyone in that game due to the screen time he gets.

as far as allies go, though, Mog all the way.

I really hope Tifa does well against Sonic, but it's not looking good after this.

I would honestly have a hard time seeing Mog beat Shadow or Celes. The rest, maybe, but not those two.

one thing's for sure: not even Amano can mess up a moogle. I haven't seen it, but it's gotta be better than everyone else.

I have a question I always wondered about individual vote totals changing, but, how can characters (For example, Lloyd) get say, 46,000 votes against Wesker, and then gets less than 25,000 against Zero?
From: yoblazer33 | Posted: 9/2/2005 2:49:09 PM | Message Detail
Assuming Tifa wins with exactly 53%, would that theoretically mean that Luigi beats Vyse worse than Yoshi beat Laharl? At the very least, it's got to be close...
From: transience | Posted: 9/2/2005 2:55:53 PM | Message Detail
Luigi wins 76.5-23.5 or so. Yoshi won 73-26.

46,000 votes against Wesker, and then gets less than 25,000 against Zero?

Because those people who voted for him against Wesker don't necessarily prefer him over Zero.

As Slowflake said before, I think we need to forget about past stats. This looks like a whole new voting trend that has nothing to do with last year.

Samus is the only person who can beat Crono, much like Mario is the only person who can beat Samus, and Crono is the only person who can beat Mario. As such... a final of Crono>Mario will be the winner.

For all we know, Luigi's % against Pac-Man was completely legit and Yoshi just rSFFed him >_<

I mean, there was that poll where Yoshi was the favorite Mario character. With all the different Mario characters in the poll, that doesn't mean Yoshi is the most popular. It just means he's good at taking SFF from others...

Hey, it's not THAT farfetched.

There won't be any controversy with Mario this year. If he beats Samus, it won't be by 200 votes. He'll have enormous momentum going into the finals, where his rabid fanbase simply won't allow him to lose.

I guess now is as good a time to ask it--Luigi or Yoshi this year, who wins?

If Yoshi, then Vyse has dropped significantly, Laharl has risen significantly, or Yoshi somehow rSFFs Luigi.

I seriously think it's the first one, barring the other obvious conclusion that this is a kick in the balls for transitivity.

weirder ideas have showed up in these topics, that's for sure.

Squall is confusing me; 60-40 on Luigi, 55-45 on Kirby. Kirby beats Tidus 58-42 and Luigi loses 53-47 to Tifa. that's one hell of a Nintendo boost.

I guess that would make sense..but it sounds SFF'ish me, heh.

Though, I guess it just proves that maybe more voters are probably all-round.

Good evening guys. I just read the first page of the topic and I have to comment on Mario Kart 64. Toad, Yoshi and Peach > everyone else in speed.

Talking about the match, Luigi is impressing me! Super Mario 64 DS must have helped him a lot in popularity. I find no other reasons...

No, that's just the nature of a popularity contest. With two characters like Lloyd and Wesker, the voters had to vote for SOMEBODY even though they don't necessarily care for either. The low vote total of that match is proof of that. The minute someone that they cared about came along, those voters abandoned Lloyd for someone they actually like. You don't have to necessarily like someone to vote for them. That's the bread and butter of this contest.

From: The n00b Avenger | Posted: 9/2/2005 3:14:29 PM | Message Detail
SFF is used when a popular character goes against a less popular one, and the less popular character get even LESS votes than he usually would because the shared fanbase is more significant for whatever reason.

Lloyd wasn't crushed by Zero any worse than he should have been, so...

Lloyd/Wesker/Zero is about as linear as this contest gets. hell, Serious Sam got 32,000 votes on Mr. Driller, yet 5,000 vs. Mega Man. no SFF there, just that one character is vastly superior to the other two.

Well, it is SFF in a sense. It just follows a more predictable pattern when they don't share a large majority of the same fanbase.

Well, playing vs the CPU is damn easy. You can win with anyone making no powerslides at all... and you win by far.

Playing vs humans is different. A decent player need a couple powerslides to disappear from heavyweights' sight =P

I think Luigi, Wario, and Waluigi never should have been made. And either Peach or Daisy. Daisy came first, but then they just forgot about her. And Toadette. And assorted allies and enemies in different colors. -_-
