If she earns one of the top spots in Leonhart's tournament, she'll have a great chance. Didn't all five of the winners make it in this year?
From: transience | Posted: 9/2/2005 2:12:17 PM | Message Detail
yeah, I imagine that if the jp stops doing his whining, Aerith will make it next year. Tifa and Vincent have had their chances and it's her turn.

Well, my tournament last year was for characters who had never made it into the contest before. Although I'll probably use the 5th spot to rally for a character who deserves to return after being gone for a couple of years (Aeris, Fox, etc.).

Personally, I'd love to see Jay Solano make it in and outdo Tanner by virtue of actually having a last name.
From: transience | Posted: 9/2/2005 2:14:55 PM | Message Detail
I had no idea that last names helped. I'd think they make the character even less recognizable, especially a boring name like Jay Solano.

I nominated Peach this year. I didn't participate in the Board nomination topic though.

On a side note... If Tifa does worse than Aeris on Sonic, I wouldn't automatically say that she is weaker than Aeris. We haven't had any data on Aeris in two years since her match against Sonic. And we've seen how many of the Square characters have been brought down since 2k3. I still think Aeris and Tifa are around the same strength with Tifa probably having an edge.

Bahamut? You guys sorely overestimate his chances. He's primarily a summon, secondarily a character. I doubt he'd do much damage.

But Bahamut has exposure to almost everyone who's play a FF game, no one seems to dislike him, he'll likely kick ass with casual FF voters.

Everyone knows Pac-Man and nobody really hates him. Doesn't mean he's strong. Bahamut's problem is that he's not exactly a favorite of anybody. I'd wager there isn't a high percentage of people who prefer Bahamut over, say, Solid Snake. He's just a cool summon, but not exactly somebody people go crazy over.

oh and all we need is bahamut in a kingdom hearts game then he'll be a killing machine.

people said that since vincent was an optional character he'd do bad. he still pulled in 79000 votes. and bahamut gets the entire square support not just the FF7 fans all ff fans.
so if you combine the forces of ff7/8/9/10 alone bahamut is already very strong

Bahamut may beat characters that nobody cares about, but I doubt he's popular enough to take out perennial favorites. There's a reason there are a bunch of characters in the midcarder range. They are popular, but not popular enough to displace the favorites.

But Bahamut has exposure to almost everyone who's play a FF game, no one seems to dislike him, he'll likely kick ass with casual FF voters.

Exposure doesn't mean much when you don't amount to much in the game to begin with. Yeah, Bahamut has been in a lot of FFs, but usually in a fringe role. I know tons of people who have gone through FF7 without using his materia once, much less knowing his name--that's a huge chunk of what we consider to be FF support gone, right there.

In other words, if exposure were all you needed, we'd have characters like Goomba making it in. Not to equate Bahamut with that, but I can't see him doing very well. Very few people will vote him over characters they actually like.

Bahamut is a summon common to all FF games. if you're going to go that route, a moogle would do better (hi, Mog!), or even Cid.

Knuckle's victory was kind of comfortable despite having a large bracket disadvantage. I'd be 75% comfortable with Dante > Magus

I'd take is because Magus is just too awesome not too, but I wouldn't be comfortable about it.

And, getting a Moogle into the contest would be awesome, but I think they're too generic to count.

Could we nominate Chocobo for the contest instead? Has been in almost as many games as Bahamut, they're almost always a required part of the plot, and, well... he is technically a specific character in Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon. >>

'sides, a Servbot got in the first contest. Why not A Chocobo?

I just don't know if I could be comfortable with it. Dante beating Magus just...seems out of place. After seeing Sonic yesterday, I wouldn't be surprised if Knuckles is stronger, too.

bahamut is the majority's favourite summon

He's still that--only a summon.

and the fact that he's a dragon will make him topple over characters vercetti.

I can't think of too many people that would vote a dragon over Tommy Vercetti unless they weren't going to vote for him in the first place. Besides, I *can't* see Bahamut beating Kefka.

i mean bahamut is the only FF thing that has gone through them all and is liked by all. not everyone like moogles and chocobos

That's just a ridiculous statement. Bahamut just isn't that well known to casuals.

I like him too, but let's get serious here. I don't want to see him get embarrassed.

I also think Sonic characters have increased. I'm tempted to call Sonic the favourite vs. Mega Man.

we've done the "generic character in a popular game" thing before - I remember Harrich and I saying a metroid would do better than Ridley, and I made a division of mascots where a goomba was the consensus winner.
