I'm not going to say anything for sure at this point. The poll is only about halfway done, things don't look good for Knuckles but the same thing happened during his match with Magus.

Knuckles was hounding Magus's lead from the start of the match, and Knuckles had gone ahead by this point. If Knuckles were to make a comeback now, it would be largest comeback in contest history.

What, so everyone who likes Knuckles is automatically kiddie, while the nice, "mature" voters like yourself prefer Squall?

*slaps Kyle with a white glove*

I guess that means I can call Squall's night vote the "horny teenage girls who touch themselves at night" vote, right?

What, you mean you can't believe either his 2k3 OR his 2k4 number, then? 2k4 Knux shows Squall winning by 57.85, 2k3 Knux shows Squall winning by 58.8. You'd have to believe 2k2 Knux = 2k5 Knux to think that even 56.37% is a fair margin of victory for a static Squall.

You guys have actually looked at the Xstats, right? Please, please do (or do it again), because what I'm telling you is right there. Squall is predicted to beat Knuckles by ~58% if he's static from 2k3.

Look, I don't use the numbers much because I don't think they need to be bothered with. I'll check them a few times, but they're certainly not infallible, and I don't intend to ever use them religiously. I don't believe in Knuckles numbers that say he's going to get beaten by either 57 or 58 after he's defeaten Magus.

damn, Chichiri just quintuple-owned y'all.

Yeah, it had nothing to do with that for me it was 5 am in the morning and that I had to go to sleep.

as for Aeris and Squall, I still point to the SFF example of Aeris vs. Sora. unless Sora dramatically increased the next year, Aeris SFFed him badly. if Aeris can own the main character of KH, why couldn't she do so to FF8? heck, Squall gained strength thanks to KH. I have faith that FF7 can SFF any Square game not named CT (and even that's in question), and Squall's included in that group. that's ignoring the fact that Aeris is already stronger x-stat wise and rSFF hasn't really been proven yet. either way, we'll know more after Squall/Vincent, since most people will concede at this point that Aeris is stronger than Vincent.

Except Squall is not Sora. And Kingdom Hearts isn't Final Fantasy. Also, an Aeris/Sora rematch might even be much more interesting next year, as by then Kingdom Hearts II would be out. It would be quite tempting to take Sora again. And Aeris has also missed two contests now, and that's a considerable time to be using xsts to say she's ranked higher.

I left when Knuckles was at 44%, and now he's pushing 46%, very nice.

Yet, he should still be winning, so I am displeased.

And WTF at Vincent's bracket percentage. Only a 4th had an FF7 character beat Dante, yet 75% had him over Kerrigan. I mean, I know Dante is a one seed and DMC3, but Vincent is from FFF'n7. Damn...

Now *awaits Knuckles comeback*

Snake got 56% on Ryu, who got 53% on Dante. Knuckles got 59% (admittedly, Snake was weaker).

However, I think SFF will definitely swing toward the hotter of the two anime-esque characters. 'Tis a gut feeling.

If Vincent = Squall, Dante would beat Knuckles with 50.16%, which would lead me to give the edge to Vincent. However, that also means that Dante would beat Magus with 51.02%, which I can't quite wrap my head around. I dunno. I guess I give Vincent the edge.

If you're going to use Snake Vs Ryu 2003, and Ryu Vs. Dante 2003, wouldn't it make more sense to use Knuckles Vs. Snake 2003? Making it 63-37 instead.

Granted, Knuckles could have gone up since then. But I don't see why it would be anything significant.

for a squall/vincent we need to ask a typical square fan what he would think like.
ps1 era FF fan:hmmm squall is real cool with that gunblade and a gunblade is a gun and a blade combined so that beats vincent's gun.but vincent can transform in all these super cool guys like jason and the monster of frankenstein.but lionheart>omnislash.but vincent is cooler than neo.but squall is like the hero.but vincent is a former turk and turks>seed.

ps1 era FF fan:i'll flip a coin on this one

Crono in the finals was practically a given before the contest even began, at least in my mind. I just didn't think it'd be THIS easy.

in my mind it was almost a given. i considered both Vincent and Tifa having a chance, but opted for Crono rather confidently. at this point, though, i think we can safely say that the only three characters who have a shot at winning this thing are Mario, Samus, and Tifa. although, Tifa is a major longshot after Vincent's performance, but we have to give her a chance to prove herself before jumping to any solid conclusions. she may be significantly stronger than Vincent. unlikely, but possible.

that also means that it's pretty much just Bowser and Tifa who have a shot at breaking up the Noble Nine. Bowser seems more likely to do it than Tifa at this point, so there will be a lot riding on Snake vs. Bowser.

never assume anything. =P

but, if Tifa isn't strong enough, i see no new characters on the horizon or any characters that have never made the contest with the potential to become an elite. and if Bowser can't do it, then it would take a demograph shift of epic proportions or a seriously major release to boost a current character up to the Noble Nine's level.

btw - courtesy of Slowflake, the Noble Nine is currently 84-0 against non-Noble Nine characters. by the time Sonic vs. Tifa rolls around, they will be 90-0. and if Sonic does beat Tifa, then the Noble Nine will enter the Bowser vs. Snake match with a staggering record of 92-0.

"Snake got 56% on Ryu, who got 53% on Dante. Knuckles got 59% (admittedly, Snake was weaker)."

You do know this exactly how the XStats are made, right? Take % of matches and use them to find how characters rank. And, in this case, we even have a match in 2k3 to match up to hte first two. Just go here: www.sc2k5.com and you'll have that all done fo you without and estimations and no guesswork on your part.

2k3: Dante over Knux with 53.12%
2k4: Dante over Knux with 51.08%

Dante should win, unless Knux has gained without reason this year when it's Dante who should be gaining. Squall really would have needed to hit 58% for me to have lost any confidence in Vincent.

But you just used XP stats when you said "Snake got 56% on Ryu, who got 53% on Dante. Knuckles got 59%"

Using a person's performance on another person through a common opponent or a direct common opponent to judge their performance against each other is Extrapolation, and it's exactly what the stats do...

That's a shame, because they are obviously doing the work for you, and giving you a more precise result. They are, in short, better than anything you can come up with on your own.

I interpret them differently, and I tend to think about some basic common sense as well while using them. A lot of the time I've picked against common sense (Alucard over Sora, Ryu over Bowser) and usually I've paid the price. I don't put all that much stock in this method of extrapolation, but I do use past contest matches.
