Kerrigan probably had a very good % of the brackets considering her base 25%, I'd bet at least 15% had her in round 2. Maybe 20%. Terra also probably had some.

I'd guess those two combined had around 25%, Dante had 50%, and Vincent had 25%.

And no, if Knuckles beats Squall, it isn't because of a Knuckles increase in popularity. It would have to be either a totally different voter pool than previous years, Squall being overrated, or the existence of nonlinearity where people consistently like Snake better than Knuckles, but it isn't necessarily the case against other characters... especially in a linear fashion.
