Who's calling Kirby an elite? And even if he was, he's appeared in enough other games so that it wouldn't matter. He only needs a slight boost.

Well, that doesn't sound *too* bad. I wouldn't be surprised if Kirby
increased a bit, especially with the Nintendo increasing theory
floating around.
I'm also a *tiny* bit skeptical of Squall's strength, as I'm not sure how a bigger voting pool will favor him now that he's not beefed up by Kingdom Hearts. But he should still win comfortably, though.

Agreed. I wouldn't be surprised to to see Knux ahead of Squall
tomorrow, but I still think Squall is the clear favorite, and more or
less has it in the bag. I think the only thing making me think it could
happen is how much I want Knux > Squall, Knux > Vincent to
happen. It would be hilarious.

The heavy favorite. But there were signs of Magus being overrated. Nothing like that with Squall.

Yes, he was. However, he was also clearly overrated and signs for that
were seen. However, the majority of the Magus supporters disregarded it
just because.
No such signs for Squall are visible.

Tidus vs Mega Man too pointed to Magus being overrated too.
Although Tidus vs Shadow and most of Ganondorf's matches pointed to Magus's value being accurate.

Told you so. :P
Well, several people pegged this match right, too.
And I don't think people are completely ignoring Canvas Curse, yet for some reason people seemed to be quite averse for SM64:DS giving Mario a boost (or at least it was never mentioned) but a ds game giving Kirby all of that boost? How big was the boost exactly? I think it's not an illegitmate claim to think that perhaps Squall is underrated rather than overrated.

Told you so.
You might want to get in line on that one.
Anyway, I'm rather surprised that it's this close. I expected Vincent to do far better than this at the worst. I suppose he's nowhere near as strong as I had expected after Kerrigan's performance, but him being closer to Magus's 2004 value shouldn't be out of the question if Dante has increased a pretty good amount from Devil May Cry 3 and whatever else. But Vincent should still take this division.

Yeah, I thought that Vincent would take away all the appeal that Dante
draws in a direct matchup between the two. But Dante is holding his
own. This is another one of those instances where I don't even try
using stats to verify the matchup. Much like I saw in Luigi/KOSMOS,
Alucard/Sora, and Bowser/Ryu, I thought there was an intrinsic factor
for Vincent that made me think he'd have this matchup with ease.

Two things:
1) XD at only 61% of brackets getting Crono > Vercetti correct. I know, a lot of Vercetti fans put him over anyone, but hey, 61%? ouch.
2) Vincent is doing...not so well. My prediction was at almost 60%, so I'm getting smashed today. However, I think, (at least in my mind) that Dante got a nice boost from DMC3, so Vincent should at least give Squall the run of his life for the division, or maybe Knuckles <__<
---
That's right. Cloud N. Candy would get a NEGATIVE percentage, and RPGuy's extrapolated calculator would crash. - therealmnm

There should actually be a fair amount of breathing room between the
two. Unless Knux has gone up or dante has somehow gone down then Dante
is the more formidable opponent.
Oh, and Slow, you of all people should watch what you say about another person's favorite character. Vincent Sucks? Really? Beating Dante by a fair margin and potenially looking up to the task of beating Auron is sucking? I'm just not seeing it.

People keep trying to make this correlation for an all-Nintendo
increase here. As I keep stressing, this idea is being based on
circumstantial evidence. There is nothing solid to indicate such. I
think you're all trying to draw a correlation from something that
appears to be there but may not necessarily be. We have evidence that
suggests that there IS NOT an all-Nintendo boost. Ganondorf and Bowser
CAN go up on their own merit without bringing the rest of Nintendo up
with them.

Actually, I don't remmeber anyone but me commenting on it and I called it the most respectable one (but still thought it was too high). Expected at least one of you to say something in the low 60s. I still stand by it though, I have no respect for all those 55s. Doesn't matter if they are right, some of those people were talking up Vincent as much as I was and they still didn't put down the numbers to back it, for shame.

Would you say the same thing if it was Aeris today and Sephiroth in Tifa's spot? What's that you say, "no"? is that perhaps because each character has their own strength? As much as I hate to say it, it looks like Ulti was right all along when he said Tifa>Aeris>Vincent, and you'd have to be a total noob to thing there is yet evidence to the contrary or any way of saying Tifa=Vincent at this point.

If you wouldn't have said Tifa I'd agree. Fact is, though, that Tifa went up agaisnt a known entity that I doubt would drop below 17% or so and that still makes her increadibly strong. Then again, some of you were so wrapped up in your own hype/hate that you're failing to recognize that Vincent is still performing on near elite levels, so why should I bother.

Hmm, Vincent isn't doing quite as well as I was expecting, but still a
decisve won nonetheless. This makes me quite happy, since I have Squall
over Vincent, and after Vincent demolished Kerrigan and Squall did as
expected against Geno, that pick wasn't looking very good.
In any case, this bolsters my theory of how Vincent is a hit-or-miss character - fans of FFVII either love him or don't care for him. I happen to be in the latter group. A character such as Cloud, Sephiroth, Aeris, or Tifa can carry lots of support from the FFVII population because of their great prominences in the game and its story, whereas if you don't get Vincent, or you get him and don't use him very much, you probably won't care for him at all. If you use him a lot in battle, you might end up loving up. Those that love him will vote for him over most characters, but those that are indifferent will vote for him over fodder and characters they've never heard of, e.g. Kerrigan, but will not vote for him against stronger opponents such as Dante and Squall. The end result: overperformance against fodder, underperformance against mid-carders and elites.

For the sake of simplicity, I'm going to refer to Gordon Freeman versus Tanner as Schrodinger's Match. -Phoenix Flattener

Btw, HM, what you think about the Sonic/Tifa match now?
I don't know why someone would have thought that Tifa depended on Vincent doing well to stand a chance against Sonic. Unless Tifa disappoints against Luigi -- and I will be beyond sad should that happen -- then I think she'll still, at the least, give Sonic a great match.

His fighting style, using a pool cue and ball as its main components, makes use of multiple objects not normally treated as weapons.

No, we just thought people were over-estimating Vincent and Tifa over one match against fodder.
Wait, show me where we have been wrong about Tifa again?

I would tell you, but the only words I could summon would get me moderated.
