Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 225

By the way... nothing would make me happier than to see cheating going on for Vincent as of the moment, but yeah, a bit too early to call.

"Good enough to warrant a big boost?"

I hope so :)

I dunno, I liked the first one and haven't even bothered to try either sequel. I don't think I'm alone there, so I'm a bit skeptical of saying he could be anywhere past his 2k3 level.

DMC3 is excellent--a return to form for the DMC series. It may not have sold as well as DMC2, but the difference in quality is enormous. What matters is exactly how many people on GameFAQs those sales affected--and we may have more than our fair share of those here in hardcore gamer land.

It is a damn good game, no doubt. The strange thing is that it sold like ****, so it's very odd to see an increase (assuming there is one)

****ing amazing. Better than the original, IMO. Heh, I always thought IMO was the stupidest thing ever, but it didn't just stop me from using it, anyway, back to the point. I've been saying I think DMC3 will boost Dante to 30% or so, and whether or not DMC3 was as good as the others, Dante was by far more badass in it then the others. However, I don't know how much of a boost he could have recieved with the less than stellar sales.

In other words, I'd expect DMC3 to boost for Dante in a lesser fashion for how MGS3 (perhaps) boosted Snake this year. They didn't sell as well due to the second in the series turning gamers off to the series, but both games were touted as more like the original, and were better received by the public.

In honor of this match, I would like to present a new feature to the update script. You can now view update votes and percentages. However in order to do so you will have to click on "Time" to sort ascending in order of time. Like here:

http://sc2k5.com/drupal/node/22?matchnum=2108&sort=time&type=ASC

I could make this the default sort order, but people prefer descending by time. I cannot however add update numbers if its sorted descending.

Camera Angles eh?

They were better to some degree, although still a bit clunky, but nowhere near they were. If you've played GoW, I'd place DMC3 ahead of it in terms of kickass.

And wiht that I can see the 45 minute update shows Vincent higher than normal and Dante lower than normal. While Vincent is less consistant Dante's clearly not a rock here.

Ya know, it's hard to say that MGS2 turned fans off when it ranked higher than the original in the game contest.

True, but I'm speaking generally, not on GameFAQs--it's a well established fact that Raiden and the convoluted storyline turned off many, many people from the MGS series. As for the game contest and GameFAQs itself, there's so many opportunities for SFF there that I don't trust it one bit--but suffice to say, I would take MGS over MGS2 in a direct poll any day of the week.

Odd how so many of you have selective or just plain wrong memories.

The irony level here is pretty high, considering that yesterday you claimed Mario/Crono II started late (it started early) and today you claimed CATS lead Cloud for 15 minutes (it was more like 1 minute).

I'm not quite sure what you mean, Ulti.

A lead change field would be particularly tricky. Also, whose perspective should it be from? Whoever won the first update (which would be odd)? Or whoever's winning now? If the latter, it would get confusing because in the case of lead changes everything would shift retroactively.

Yes, but two and a half years is a bit different than two and a half months. With CATS leading I remembered it being for the first update, my only failure was not taking into account that there are faster updates at the very beginning. With MvC I was right that there was only 15-30 minutes extra, I just remember there being a great deal of arguments about there being two updates after 12:00.

Actually, the match started late... so even with the extra time Mario *clears throat* won within 24 hours. Of course, I've been calling Vincent = Mario since Mario > Crono so it's fair if I call him > Crono now (which I haven't, though I think it'll be too damn close).

Vincent = Mario sounds a tad higher than 45-55, and there were definitely others who made even bolder predictions than that.

You could just do difference between the lead at the current update and the previous update, I guess. Would that make things easier?

If it's worth quoting it's probably worth reading, so why don't you, you know, read it. I've bolded the important sentance that you're obviously refering to and italicized the part that I'm most certain escaped your eyes. Go ahead and tell everybody what that italicized AND bolded portion says. GO on, read it out loud for the whole class to hear Billy Bob.

On, and since it's an on going trend that Crono is ALWAYS higher in the stats (and I still believe he will be again this year) I would honestly expect a 55/45 match if there should be an MvC4.
