Explanation of Extrapolated Standings:
http://sc2k5.com/drupal/node/11

Simple Explanation of Extrapolated Standings:
A = Strongest Character
B = Character Weaker than A
C = Character Weaker than B
To figure out a character's Xsts Percentage ---> [(CvB)(BvA)]/50 = CvA
To compare how C would do against B ---> [(CvA)/(BvA)]*50 = CvB
To figure out how B would do against A ---> [(CvA)/(CvB)]*50 = BvA

I think an 81% win should be taken seriously, you should defiantly consider the possibility.

It was 79%, not that it's a big difference, and once again, it was against a completly unproven character. Remember a match with Solid Snake and Tanner? Yeah, 94.30% that didn't make him win the contest or come close to doing so.

I think saying that Vincent has to be strong because he hit 79% is a bad assumption. The Legend of Zelda holds the all time percentage record, then Snake, then Mega Man (twice), before we hit Link. We've seen Final Fantasy, LoZ (twice), Ganondorf, SM64, Super Metroid, Bowser, SMW, Magus, GoldenEye, Ryu, Sonic 2, Knuckles, Dante, and Liquid Snake all do better than Vincent did percentagewise, and that's not counting the Noble Nine (chars) or the Elite Eight (games). That's a big list, and quite a few of the characters/games are average midcarders, nothing more.

Total votes, which are meaningless but I'll point this out anyway, we've got LoZ breaking 90k, Final Fantasy, SMW, and nearly Sonic 2 doing better than Vincent did. Again, they're respectable, but they aren't really powerhouses, particularly Sonic 2.

"Oh, you're so awesome. You told someone that wasn't even arguing with you to take his ball and go home. I bow to your clear superiority. And by superiority I mean pettiness."

The only thing that statement could be in regards to is the comment about midcarders and blowouts, a comment I made... and only a person of childlike intelligence is going to read your response and thing anything other than "Wow, way to prove how petty you are, hypocrite". Really, if you're going to be the "bigger man", whihc you're obviously not, the idea is to not make sarcastic (or perhaps any) comments as a lead in to "OMG, yur teh peety!!!!"

"I'm not saying vincent isn't incredibly strong, but sales mean next to nothing. The driver series has also sold millions (I believe) keep in mind, and that series, unlike starcraft, revolves around the single player."

The argument at hand is comparing Monkey Island to Starcraft and that it can't be done, not that sales mean anything about strength. You cannot directly compare a cult game to a mainstream game, that's a fact, and that's the point of my argument. Really, when all of you want to be on the same page instead of arguing about something I'm not even trying to say by all means let me know.

"Calm it down there, my point was that when using that example, even if Seph got 0 nominations, yes I know it's impossible, but for arguements sake, Ceej would have given him the 1 seed."

No he wouldn't, he has always expressed that nominations directly effect seeding. If Seph got 0 noms he'd have gone "Well, guess it's not a problem any more" and gone on like nothing happened.

I hope you're not going to equate Kerrigan with the likes of Tanner...

I mean, even if you don't buy Vincent's performance against Kerrigan, then look at Tifa.

Vincent shouldn't be too far below her to the point of not being able to break 40% on Crono.

Ugh... no that wasn't my point at all. My point was when that happened everyone went "ZOMG SNAKE IS GONNA WIN, LOZL!!!!!!!" and that percentage against an unknown is worth absolutely nothing. Oh and I saw Tifa, I expect her to do well, and I expect her to be a good deal stronger than Vincent as well.

When did I say he wasn't of some strength? I'd personally expect him to be around 31-33% on BL, which is pretty good. Enough to beat Dante, I would think. Quite a few of those characters are under that, and most of the games are, as far as I can judge.

Who said Vincent isn't going to be a high-midcarder? As far as I'm concerned, a standard midcarder is his ABSOLUTE FLOOR, and he's likely going to take the status of elite after what he did. Same with Tifa, though I think we're going to be brought a bit back down to earth after their matches with Dante and Tifa.

Seriously, though, why does it matter? I mean, the match isn't that far away...could we just wait and see?

Exactly... no one's arguing that Vincent is all kinds of weak, I don't expect him to be 31-33, but rather at 30%, I'm saying he's not touching Crono.

until proven otherwise, I've got Tifa > Aeris >= Vincent. it's fully possible that Vincent is stronger than I give him credit for, but that was my assumption pre-contest and I'm sticking with it until proven otherwise. Dante is clearly below Aeris and therefore below Tifa.

The speculation in this topic is not "he's a high midcarder". The speculation is "he's a lock to win the division". Hey, guess what, Chichiri, Dante's on that list too!

Kerrigan's seed is irrelevant to her strength. That was all the doing of Leonhart's nomination rally of death. The fact that she only got a 4 seed even with the nomination rally proves that her deserved seed is that of fodder... or non-existant, even.

I'm not saying Vincent isn't gonna be strong (he most assuredly will be strong). I'm saying he'll be a midcarder (like around 28% on BL). It's just that I think Dante is going to be stronger because of DMC3 and I think Vincent's being overestimated.

"When did I say he wasn't of some strength?"

Then we're in agreement, 9 times out of 10 doing that well is a sign of strength enough to best the likes of Dante. Oddly enough you seemed to prent is as "I think saying that Vincent has to be strong because he hit 79% is a bad assumption." which would say the opposite, but since he's in such good company your first sentance was clearly written in error. I'll forgive yo the typo this one time.
