I dunno, Smurf. Shadow lost to Tidus, who got creamed by Kirby. Shadow needs to get a rather large jump to be able to take down Auron, who has finally proven that he's leagues above Tidus in these contests. Auron getting close to Ganon is no joke.

*waits for someone to counter this post with the standard "The Spring results are no good" stuff*

And yes, I'm aware of what Tidus did against Ganon in 2003. He was also the heavy bracket favorite back then, plus there's the fact that the 2003 data is looking older by the day. If those two had another match, Tidus would be lucky to break 40%.

I think DK needs to get his lead over 3000 or more before calling it safe. Master Chief is an absolute monster with the day vote.

On another note, is it kind of sad in a way that nothing of the current generation of gaming can touch anything of previous generations? FF7 seems to be about the most recent thing that can touch the most popular of characters and that was released about 8 years ago! It's like this entire generation of characters has been a complete wash; only having the ability to create modest mid-carders instead of any true, new elite characters or games out there.

Part of the reason that's the case is that most of the top tier characters built up their popularity over many games. Link, Mario, Mega Man, Samus, and Snake have all been around since the 80's, but they all draw popularity from more recent games as well. It's not like the current generation isn't having an effect there.

FF VII was pretty unusual in creating super popular characters in only one game. So I wouldn't write off this generation yet... guys like Dante, Master Chief, and Sora could be pretty respectable in a few more years with a few more sequels (or they might not).

GTA and Halo have sold numerous copies but will they be remembered fondly 5-10 years from now, like how Nintendo characters and even FF7 characters have fared? Or will they just be fodder when the time comes? Seems whatever the current fad is for this generation will only last so long as the next 'improvement' is not around the corner. Otherwise, characters like Vercetti or Tidus will be forgotten once the new installment arrives.

I don't think Grand Theft Auto will be remembered for it's characters, but I doubt it was ever intended that it be remembered for those characters. Grand Theft Auto will be remembered for it's innovative game design, and the controversy surrounding the series. Not every character is a Mario, but not every game is a Grand Theft Auto, if you get my meaning.

Vercetti is currently barely above Kefka now. Unless he's included in future GTA games, I can't really see him attaining even upper mid-card levels later on.

I don't care what people say about the X-Box being weak, Halo 2 actually sold a lot of X-Boxes for GameFAQers. So even if 2004 was a fluke, he should have at least taken off from what he did in 2003, right?

This proves the stats are totally useless. From now on I'm just going with my feeling, which should say for most of you also, that DK is a much more popular character who has been in a lot more games. And shooter characters are not liked that much on this site. Because shooters usually don't go to far into the character.

Well, seeing Liquid Snake bomb against Sephiroth is a good clue to me. And to think people thought he'd give Bowser a good match. It makes me wonder who would of tooken the upset if Bowser and Sephiroth switched places in the bracket, or Wily/Liquid Snake.

This match is still a sunday match, which means a lot of the board people could stay up longer in the night to vote already. This makes the night vote for DK stronger as he is obviously the favourite at night. So a comeback is still very possible.

Any match as close as MC/Frog is going to have cheating involved, and Solid Snake might of just been weak that year. If Solid Snake and Frog had another match, I highly doubt Frog would get 48% again.

Nintendo is stronger this year for some strange reason. This is happening too many times to just be a coincidence where the other character is always at fault. Also Halo and the Xbox where never popular on this site (obviously) and Halo 2 hasn't seem to do much for MC here at all.
