At the rate he's going, he'd hit 3000 in around 6-7 hours if he kept this up, which I doubt.

creativename: I know this may be impossible to do, but is there any way of ever adding in a "Lead Up/Down" column on the updaters? Possibly even going to 15 minute updates? Percentages of votes for each character during a specific update timeframe?

Well, now I'm willing to say that DK is looking good. Looks like he might stay above 53% before morning, which would leave him in a strong position.

I could go to 15 minute updates, but don't think that would be preferred. Especially since the main poll is now on 5 minute updates anyway. As for the rest, those would be rather complicated to implement. They've been on my to-do list but if I ever do them it probably won't be this contest.

This jump for Nintendo characters is really ruining the contest. At this point it looks like only the elite and those very close to that level can take down even an average Ninty character.

It's damn stupid. A great contest is slowly being ruined.

Are you kidding? This is awesome! Now all that needs to happen if for FF7 to take a huge drop in popularity here and it looks like this site will finally be gaining some sanity.

DK wouldn't need much of a jump to win this. He was at 23.55% before, but he's been at 25.34% in 2K3. Master Chief came out to be between 25%-26% based on Frog. So this was going to be a close match anyway.

And I would think that people would like change, as without it these contests lose some of their purpose.

How is it Awesome? Bowser is going to defeat Snake, Tifa could very well take down Sonic and Megaman. And Vincent could see off Crono.

Does anybody really want a noble 9 that looks like this?

Link
Cloud
Sephiroth
Tifa
Samus
Vincent
Ganondorf
Bowser
Crono

It's all Squintendo. All this contest is doing, is shoving the variation out of the elite characters.

It would be good if things continued like this, Snake, Sonic and Mega Man (and all the strong non Nintendo/Square characters) stayed constant or rose, and Square (particularly FF7) dropped, making way for new characters. Someone needs to take on Nintendo in these contests, but I'm sick of it being FF7.

Vincent and Tifa beating existing "noble nine" characters would be great. Though they wouldn't "join" the noble nine, as it would cease to exist at that point (which is reason enough to root for them, or Bowser, doing so; as it has always annoyed me).

And frankly, I'd be surprised if Tifa and Vincent didn't end up stronger than Snake and Sonic.

this day vote is interesting, too - an x-box character who's weak as hell during the night vs. a nintendo character who's not really known for the day vote. one would have to call MC the favourite right now, I think.

Master Chief is a posterboy for the day vote. I still say that he is the heavy favorite to win this, especially considering how bad DK is in the day. This match has already stalled at 400 votes. Chief made a 3100 vote turnaround on Frog, the majority of which was done in a matter of four hours. I really don't think DK can win, but I'm rooting for him.

MC is one hell of a dud. he's the xbox mascot and any company mascot should be strong. he should be top 12 material but no he fails. konami/sega/capcom each have there powerful mascots and some leftovers that can pose threats but xbox no matter how hated should have a strong representive. but they don't man doesn't it make you feel rotten if you're mascot loses to a frog with a sword that can chop up mountains?

Are people forgetting the character we're dealing with here? This is Donkey Kong, the same guy whose game nearly blew a 3400 vote lead against Duck Hunt. The same guy who had to come back from being down over 1000 votes against Aya Brea. The same guy who came back from being down 500 votes to Vercetti, only to lose the match by nearly 1000 votes. The same guy who made Vivi look like a strong character.

Ulti, I didn't think you'd be one to compare games and characters.

and "begin to doubt that MC can come back" was probably the wrong words, or at least they can be read in the wrong way. I meant that I'll believe that DK has a chance to win.

We were overdue for a DK thriller. This will probably be the fourth.

The only thing better than DK at getting close matches is Chrono Trigger, but then again, there have been three representatives from it, as opposed to just DK.

Now, if we count Mario as a representative from Donkey Kong the game (yes I know it's Jumpman), then... >_>

On another note, is it kind of sad in a way that nothing of the current generation of gaming can touch anything of previous generations? FF7 seems to be about the most recent thing that can touch the most popular of characters and that was released about 8 years ago! It's like this entire generation of characters has been a complete wash; only having the ability to create modest mid-carders instead of any true, new elite characters or games out there.

Unless something is done about this, what is it to say about the future of gaming if it cannot look beyond its own past glory anymore?

Popularity on GF doesn't always translate into the market. The Halo and GTA series are selling millions upon millions of copies combined, so there are people out there looking forward. The problem lies in the generation gaps among gamers.

Solid Snake has done a pretty good job, as far as new characters go. (unless you consider him to be a NES character.. to which I think I'm the only one who does)

people grow up with the "icons", and that's just how it goes.

Remember that bracket Slowflake made where he divided the divisions by era and Tidus/Shadow the Hedgehog were the 1/2 seeds?

Yeah, I'm glad Auron has bunked that theory.
