People seem to want to put more stock into what Zelda did against Vivi than what she did against Snake.

What she did against Snake was just as impressive. MGS3 sold what, twice as much as DMC2, and DMC2 gave Dante a 3% boost. Snake's up above his 2003 levels now, but I doubt I'll manage to convince anyone who was delusional enough to think that Ryu > Zelda.

As for everyone who thinks Vivi is overrated in 2k4...DK 2k3 = DK 2k5 >>> DK 2k4. Vivi through DK looks even better than DK through Seph.

Personally, I want to see Vincent doubling Dante. And from what I've seen in this contest, it's not at all out of question.

I'd love to see Dante double Vincent, and I like Vincent. It's just that all the fanboyism in this topic for him is disgusting.

It was 6 months after the release of FFX (heck, FFX was more popular than FFVI on the favorite FF polls right after its release). That was Tidus's peak popularity because the game was still fresh. Not to mention that the poll with Sonic was down for a long time during the Blue Blur's best time. The vote totals for that match were atrocious by any standard.

I doubt it. Usually high vote totals repel smaller vote gaps. The only four 100K+ matches to go down to the wire were matches with suspected cheating or at least rallying IIRC. (Mario vs Crono I and II, Mario vs Cloud, SC vs Halo)

I'll never understand this "DMC2 gave Dante a boost" crap. If every shift in popularity had to be directly attributed to a game or games, then Snake and Mega Man should have appeared stronger in 2004 rather than like crap. Dante boosted because the 30K new/extra voters in 2003 favored him, and that is the only reason.

God, no. If I'd have played a CT re-release with 3D cut-screens rather than the SNES version when deciding to try out that whole "RPG" genre, I'd likely never play another RPG again, rather than be extremely unlikely to play another one.

I know judging matches based off of fodder isn't necessarily considered popular here, but Dante beat Ryo Hazuki worse than Yoshi did, and Ryu beat Dante pretty easily. I'd take Ryu in a heartbeat over Yoshi, even after this.

It wasn't ridiculous, but it was cause to believe that Ryu wasn't as strong as we expected. Much as it pains me to admit it, Rikku's probably not stronger than Yuna. Yuna is a far more important character in FFX, some would even call her the main.

In several matches, like Squall vs. Geno, or Ryu vs. Rikku, or Zero vs. Ryu, people say that the winning character didn't disappoint...but I disagree. If a character falls below our expectations, then that is a disappointment.
