Summer 2005 Contest - 40/46 points
Current Match Prediction: Bowser vs. Ryu (Street Fighter)
From: chaoscell | Posted: 8/27/2005 12:24:31 AM | Message Detail
...It just dawned on me what a genius CJayC is. He made all those SFF matches so there'd be a 2 year gap when it came to us predicted the true strengths of characters. A lot of characters were just set with their 2003 value, meaning they had a full 2 years to increase or decrease. Then he makes an amazingly good bracket like this, and we all get bent over with it.

Sly as a fox that CJayC.

Anyone else find it a reasonable theory that Ryu's declined, and this isn't all Bowser?

nope. maybe if Bowser was the only Nintendo character to overperform, but since he's a bout the 5th Nintendo character this week to overperform, i'm still pushing for a voter pool shift towards Nintendo.

No doubt that Nintendo has increased. But is this 58-42 all a Nintendo increase, or Ryu dropping as well?

I really doubt Ryu dropped. There's nothing surprising about this match so far at all. It's following expectations quite nicely so far.

This should only surprise you if you ignored the Spring Contest results.

Not declined, but I think he was overrated in 2k4 by a bit. Him and kos-mos increased roughly the same amount in the xstats from 2k3. I think it's more then reasonable to assume that Ryu is at his 2k3 level, and was all along, and just overperformed on sonic a bit.

It's not going to be 58-42 by the end of the match, that's for sure.

So, how do you guys think Bowser/Kirby's going to go down? How much SFF will there be?

A bit of both. Spring 2k5 Bowser if projected to get 54% on Summer 2k4 Ryu. If Ryu dropped a tiny bit or the match ends a bit closer, the projection will be pretty close.

Well, the weird thing is that Ryu did pretty much what he was supposed to do on both KOS-MOS and Sonic, and yet all three seemingly went up by approximately the same amount.

Correct me if I'm wrong...According to the Spring Contest, Bowser would beat 2003 Megaman, right?

Hopefully next to none, so the xstats don't get supremely ****ed in an entire division.

That's assuming Sephiroth stays constant from 2k3 to last spring, which assumes Sephiroth stays constant, which doesn't seem to happen.

Well, they are both Nintendo, that can't be good for Kirby. That will be a good matchup, assuming Bowser wins this one, because it should show that Bowser > Ganondorf. As it should be.

Correct me if I'm wrong...According to the Spring Contest, Bowser would beat 2003 Megaman, right?

I assume you mean 2004 Mega Man. Spring Bowser is at 34.79% and 2K4 unadjusted Mega Man is at 34.74%, so I suppose the answer is yes. But remember that the Spring Bowser value is derived from a least squares regression as a direct value on BL is obviously not possible.

leaderboard champ update -

Mario - 21
Crono - 9
Samus - 8
Ganondorf - 5
Megaman - 2
Master Chief - 2
Solid Snake - 1
Squall - 1
Leon Kennedy - 1

i dunno what's more surprising. the one bracket for Leon or the FIVE brackets for Ganondorf. i guarantee all 5 of those Ganondorf brackets have Ganon over Bowser in the Final 4 because they paid way too much attention to the Spring Contest.

that being said, i am half to bed with Bowser comfortably ahead.

Given that the last match was an upset relative to board expectations, it's not really appropriate to call it anti-climactic.

And I think a lot of us are getting the feeling Master Chief vs. DK could be pretty close.

Ganondorf having so many winners isn't really surprising considering how fresh the Spring Contest still is in the minds of many and knowing how dominant LoZ in general is here.

I think it'll be interesting to see what Samus's percentage is to get out of her division.

Even with his impressive standing last year, Microsoft's growing popularity in the industry, and the record-shattering Halo 2, it's still the Xbox's guy in a GameFAQs contest. I'd be overjoyed if DK were to make a great match of it, but I wouldn't truly be surprised.

Yeah, DK is overdue for a close match. He didn't have one last summer (though DK/Duck Hunt compensated for it). I guess that's one factor we can rely on. Either a monkey or a frog will have a ridiculously close match every contest.
