But I'm not trying to say that Zelda didn't increase at all. It's very possible that she could have, but at the same time, you cannot say for absolute certain that she did -- especially with Snake's adjusted ranking predicting him to beat 2003 Zelda with near perfection.

Once again, this so-called "Nintendo boost" has been anything but huge. It's been within a reasonable amount for nearly everyone.

Obviously Zelda is stronger than Frog. Solid **** + Sprite Frog conspired for that result last year (and maybe Snake just had a down year, though I'd blame it more on the former).

Magus was overrated, but I'd still take Sprite Magus to beat Knuckles in a match today.

There's good reason to believe that Chrono Trigger characters (specifically Magus and Frog) are more sensitive to their sprites than other characters are.

I think that other SNES RPG characters (like Cecil) would "suffer" from this as well.

Eh, I still don't think any picture factor is much of one. I mean that Snake/Zelda pic was awful...and then snake preceded to smash Zelda. I mean, that was an awful picture. But the result still seemed to be ok. Pictures aren't going to do much.

The data is inconclusive, but it's a question of letting your money speak for you; or in this case, how you act when you have something at stake.

If there was some match where Frog might or might not have his sprite picture, no doubt people would change their Oracle prediction based upon this information. I certainly would, and you'd likely see a clear shift in the consensus as well. To ignore this would seem to be an ineffective choice.

Oh, and we certainly have very strong evidence that is statement is false at least in some situations.

IMO this is mostly a case of biased thought; people would like to think that pictures don't matter at all. The reality is inevitably more complex.
