Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 217

Whoa, Kirby just took a big leap in percentage. As much as I love Tidus, I really can't complain. Kirby deserves this, too.

it does tend to get annoying when we're currently relying on characters outside of square to beat the power that is nintendo. konami and capcom are the only other companies with one or two strong bastion that can take on nintendo now.

I don't have an issue with Squall around 31%. That's where he was in 2K3.

I wouldn't put Squall any higher based on Kirby's performance today though since that would also benefit Bomerman, and Bomberman approaching midcarder level is a little... I don't know.

What in the world... Kirby with 56%, and the day vote is just starting? Damn, either Tidus took another large drop this year, putting him well behind Yuna and Rikku for Pete's sake, or Kirby took a giant lead forward and he'll win the division.

Well it works out pretty well with unadjusted Megaman.

That's not very good for Megaman though.

Well Tidus was based on Ganondorf who was based on Magus. Magus apparently being overrated, so I guess technically Tidus could have been said to never have fallen. 2002 is the only real oddity for him, in which case. And 2002 was an oddity for everyone.

But then he'd have to have fallen again.

And the problem with unadjusted Megaman is, it seems everyone in 20XX underperformed... except Megaman and Snake. Search me.

Yeah, Snake. But Megaman didn't really underperform or overperform. He did better than what his unadjusteds would imply but even with Conker's new game I'd think he falls short of what he was adjusted to.

Not that I think he's in any trouble against Sonic since Sonic's performance against Jin didn't exactly leave my jaw hanging. But if you have him making the finals over Crono... I don't know.

He fell short by a few tenths. If a new game, a SECOND one I might add, can only give Conker a few tenths... and these could be due to random variation anyway. And well, Megaman probably will beat Sonic anyway... it's just that the match won't happen this year.

I say we wait and see.

Well depending on who's stats you use, he either fell short by .7 or 1.2. I guess Conker's new game would make up for it though.

It's not as if Tidus's unadjusted stats have to be exact anyway. Did Megaman suffer a little loss in % against Link than there should have been? Probably, yeah. Just that he adjustment overcompensates a bit. The more accurate ratings could be right inbetween the adjusted and the unadjusteds for all we know.

Aww man, I must say this match has me torn.

I have Tidus > Bowser. Yeah, I got owned.

And if I'd have won this match, I'd be back on the Top 50 too. Only until Knuckles/Squall (which I have Magus winning ^_^) but it's good to be on top.

a game like SSBM only gains in popularity. multiplayer games like that are crazy.

and the site's focus on RPGs is shifting, and quick. as cn said, FF7 is the only other thing to impress.

I'd amend that to FF7/KH, since Sora proving a possible challenge to Solid Snake is impressive in my book, and Riku didn't fair all that badly against Frog.

Oh, and the puffball has blown past the point of no return, he's up to nearly 3500 votes and definitely winning the morning vote. The only real question is whether the night vote will be able to make Tidus look halfway decent or if Kirby's just gonna carry through the whole match.

FFX-2 definitely sent Rikku and Yuna on an upwards swing. It can be argued that Auron > Rikku > Yuna > Tidus at this point, with Auron losing some feathers since last time.

either Tidus took another large drop this year, putting him well behind Yuna and Rikku for Pete's sake, or Kirby took a giant lead forward and he'll win the division.

A giant leap forward? Not quite. Maybe a bit, but not a large one. Kirby's doing close to what he would be expected to do based on his 2004 number and Tidus's unadjusted. Either way, adjusted Tidus puts him above 2003 Bowser now, heh.

Well, that's more of a useless prediction.

At this point, I think that character design/pics are a massive factor. Far more than before. The appeal of the pic is often enough to **** a poll's results.

I guess my biggest mistake this contest was underestimating Squall (and thus Kirby, by extrapolation). Alas. There will be no customary early-third-round leaderboard entry for me this year.

There's always someone better.
From: Sir Crono | Posted: 8/26/2005 8:04:30 AM | Message Detail
This also continues to be very confusing as far as the 20XX Factor is concerned. Tidus continues to act as if there wasn't one. Knuckles, Snake, and Mega Man seem to act like there was one.

If there wasn't one, Squall would be expected to do better on Knuckles than Snake did. Otherwise, he's projected to get 57.85%.

It's kinda odd how each match in the gauntlet has turned out to be more anti-climactic than the one before it. I think tomorrow will change that, if only because Ryu ought to be able to keep up with Bowser during the first night vote.

I don't see what was wrong with today's match. Just because it's not a nail-biter doesn't mean it's not awesome.

And plus I think nailbiters are harder to get with the higher vote totals.

Holy ****, I did not expect this much of a beating. I could have sees Kirby winning with 52-53% tops, but this is an absolute blowout (à la SSBM/MGS2). This ruins my perfect round 2, but oh well, at least I have Bowser beating Snake. I feel bad for the folks who had Tidus taking the division or beating Snake.
