Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 216

I agree with you, except that it's a lot easier to find CT (whether via emulation or via FFC) that it is SOTN. Crono is constantly making new fans, while Alucard's fanbase is pretty stagnant.

Sora's percentage in the last hour: 58.57%

Sora is consistently pulling over 58% right now. Impressive.

Sure, Alucard may be falling a bit, but he is still pretty strong, and at least he won a match this year, unlike in 2k4. He should continue to at least make it into the contest, and should be able to win some more first round matches as well.

And dang, Alucard is a Night wolf, and Sora just beats him down with sunshine.... and a simple and clean heart....

Crono is constantly making new fans, while Alucard's fanbase is pretty stagnant.

A stagnant fanbase is all a char needs to remain relatively constant.

New gamers will arrive causing Alucard's overall popularity to decrease, but that one is a very slow process.

And it's a process that every other char experienced as well, barring something new coming their way.

I'd call SotN an Action RPG. Platformer is hardly a befiting genre.

I'm not talking about a big drop, just a 1-2% drop off BL. Alucard won't ever be fodder.

I'm doubtful he'd even be down that much, especially since that'd imply that Sora hasn't moved since last year.

At the rate Sora's going, he'll reach 57%.

Sora = Ganondorf?

he won't reach 57. 56 should be as good as he can do.

that brings up a scary idea, though.. Sora = Ganon? a number of people would take Ganon over Snake.

I'd expect Snake to win comfortably no matter what picture he got.. but if Sora does indeed win, everyone should be bowing at the feet of Tnote for the day.

Sora is indeed making Ganondorf's performance last year look bad. However, he still might have increased since last year.

However, it is rather strange that Zelda looked like she increased in round 1, and now it looks like she hasn't. What does that mean for Ganondorf, I wonder? Heh, if he performs like he should have based on Alucard, everyone's going to be saying Samus SFF'd him.

Pic factor. No really, I think made a significant difference.
I find it hard to believe that over 35% of people who know neither characters would vote for Young Zelda over Eyeless Snake.

I find it hard to believe that you're arguing that Snake's picture actually HELPED him. Honestly, people recognize young Zelda. They'll vote for her if they liked her. Too much emphasis on the picture here, folks.

Sora>Snake is definitely a possibility, especially since the x-stats can't be trusted on a match projected to be this close... but after he beat Zelda by a decent margin (still, though, not by much... it was 54-46, that's worse that a N9 guy should be at) I won't call the upset so easily this time.

I do think Sora will be closer than Zelda was, though.

Though Sora would kind of screw up our whole Noble Nine thing, because he's lost a match to Aeris before.

But how many people actually liked Zelda in OoT? And how many people have really played OoT? If I was a random kid -okay, well I would vote for Zelda, of course- but most others would vote for a cool looking dude than a 5 year old princess. Snake looked cool, regardless of recognition. I think there's more casual voters than we think.

Perhaps all bets are off with him, statwise.

That wasn't the feeling until Gamecube came out. Nintendo 64 is actually still quite well-liked, even by more casual people.

I did too, but then I discovered that a lot of people who now worship XBox and PS2, actually enjoyed their N64s. They won't go near a Gamecube though. But they liked games such as Turok.

Of course. No game has a 100% play rate. But still, it's HIGHLY irrelevant to make such an argument when they're by far the two most popular games on this site.

How many people played Ocarina of Time? Somewhere in the neighboorhood of 7 million people across the world. In the US, that number is somwhere around 3.5 million. So more than enough. Bad question to ask.

Sora is just hammering Alucard now. And remember: I am only calling Sora>Snake if, AND ONLY IF, it is sprites, and Snake gets his picture from last year. If they met with undersnaker pic vs. smiling sora, Snake probably wins 52-48. Yeah, Snake's horrific picture could cost him a couple thousand votes.
