Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 213
From: therealmnm | Posted: 8/24/2005 12:12:38 AM | Message Detail
Bowser of course. I've been wary of overestimating Zelda off of her one match with Vivi. I'm already skeptical of the exact linearity of the x-stats. As for Vivi, I had a feeling he would be weaker this year. Like I said for Magus and Frog, I think Vivi had a bandwagon of people wanting him to do well last year, except not nearly as large. He did his job against DK, but I think he would fall apart against character with a relatively strong fanbase, like he did against Zelda.

As for this match, Zelda better pick it up. She's performing worse than Aeris did in 2k2. I know her young pic isn't THAT bad for her to perform so badly. We'll just have to see what Snake does in the upcoming rounds.

It's also easier to go from 67% to 60% than 57% to 50%. Don't forget that. Sure enough, it did get uglier... even if only slightly.

It'll be next to impossible if Snake keeps up this percentage. It's a lot easier to fall from 67% to 59% than it is from 57% to 49%.

No, actually, it's not. The closer the percentages are to 50%, the smaller 1% actually is.

Knuckles nearly barely won the day vote against Magus, a CT character. I think his day-vote king status comes largely from facing Snake, who is ass with the day-vote.

Knuckles gained a lot after the vote stabalized in that match. Same against kefka. Still I know zelda well get close with the day vote, but going from 42% to victory is something never seen before after the percentage stabalized. She needs to bite back soon, or slow the bleeding.

You do know it was because of the day vote Knuckles won.

Heh, it looks like MGS3 got Snake back in gear after all. No chance at all for Bowser to beat him if he does this well on Zelda.

By the way, who would you all take in Bowser vs. Zelda? That'd be a pretty tough match, IMO.

wow, Snake pushing 58% here. if you base Snake off a constant Vivi, he's pretty damn strong, which makes me think Vivi overperformed on Seph even more. if he stays this strong, I'll be pretty shocked to see him go out to Bowser.

so much for complaining about the picture for two straight days, huh?

It seems so. This is the last time we should ever consider a blowout on a character that's only shown up in one other contest to be worth something.

Edit: My brain somehow lost track of what I was typing... I think I need some sleep.

After ryu's piss poor performance, do you think he's still going to beat bowser? I'd call him a heavy underdog at best.

to be fair to Zelda, Knuckles did gain 8% on Snake last year, and Zelda characters are Knuckles-esque with the day vote. this is most likely over, but Snake needs to build a nice lead that Zelda can't possibly overcome with the day vote.

First of all how do you know Rikku isn't just strong she's a new character like Chun-Li

Second of all Tidus > Ryu > Bowser

Bowser was ahead of Ryu in 2k2 and 2k3, only in 2k4 was Ryu ever ahead of Bowser, due to SFAC.

This year, Ryu will most like revert back to his 2k2 or 2k3 numbers, and then lose to Bowser, who will then lose to Snake.

Bowser>ryu>kirby>tidus

>_> My kirby upset is looking possible at this point at least. Still rikku would have to be way too close to auron and tidus for ryu to beat a static 2k3 bowser that's probably stronger now. Well closer then I think she is.

"Piss poor"? How much did you want Ryu to get? He only got 62% on KOS-MOS... I figured it'd be a given that Rikku >> KOS-MOS. His 55% didn't worry me a bit, I'm still confident in Ryu.

And Zelda's going to have to keep up her %age gains to convince me that she can pull a Master Chief. Say what you will about Chief's initial %, he telegraphed a comeback the whole time... his % just kept going up.

You shouldn't compare character from two different years, take a look at Zelda vs. Vivi and why would you think Ryu will go back to his regular numbers after he gain from a game.

No, actually, it's not. The closer the percentages are to 50%, the smaller 1% actually is.

Wait, what?

Consider this:

50% to 66.66% is 1:1 to 2:1
66.66% to 80% is 2:1 to 4:1
80% to 88.88% is 4:1 to 8:1

etc, etc. Snake got 94.3% on Tanner, and despite Link being 20% stronger than Snake, Link would only get 96.84% on Tanner. There's not much of a shift between 60-40 in either direction, it's once you get beyond that that it starts to really matter.

He only made it to round to. Couldn't he have overperformed on sonic for one reason or another? KOS-MOS didn't exactly look like her 2k4 projection was accurrate unless you think luigi = mario.

That's nothing to worry about, very few of us were expecting Snake to win with more than 55% anyway.

Zelda might make this match much closer with the day vote, but this match is already over.

Okay, now if you make Vivi constant from his 2k4 level (even though he isn't), and assume that the percentage for this match will stay constant (though it won't), how strong is Snake? Humor me--nay, delude me, I say. I want to be deluded!

no...it's not. I mean someone needs to at least raise the point again that this would be Snake's best time, bigger percentage comebacks have occurred, and the match isn't over until it actually is. I mean, I know it's been said fourteen million times, but, we can't have a whole page of it's over without at least a few, no it isn't's.
