Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 212
From: Sir Crono | Posted: 8/22/2005 9:49:08 PM | Message Detail
Tidus in 2002 is just weird...Claire Redfield is way higher than she ought to be, even when you adjust for WDF. However, his poll with Sonic was down during the Blue Blur's best time of the day, so keep that in mind.

However, considering the stats would seem to show Tidus > Knuckles > Magus, it's possible that he actually increased in 2004. Either that or Magus decreased, but Tidus did have reason to go up.

Everybody with a score of 5 or less got the match wrong. The people near to top saw that it was an obvious pick and overwhelmingly choose Zero. However after the top few tiers, Zero support completely falls like lead leading to a very poor overall prediction percentage.

Three people fell off the Top 50 today. GuitarHero1001, ATSher03 and crossinganimal did not have Zero winning the match.

The vote totals in this match didn't end up looking to bad after all. Well at least when you consider that some people were calling samus a horrible vote drawer at the start of the match, and one of the two is from CT which is nutorious for being a low vote drawer.

Wow, it's incredible to think how profitable that game must be, since I would imagine development costs are MUCH lower than every other game on the list. I didn't know those old-school comps sold so well.

Aren't they so much cheaper too though? Seriously, I don't think they ever sell for more than $20...though if you sell that many with as low of development costs and advertising as games like that have, I'm sure a profit ain't too hard to come by.

Makes you wonder why more companies aren't releasing compilations (cough, Konami, cough). They could certainly net potential profits from their older games that way instead of just losing it to emulation.

As for the vote totals, maybe the distribution of votes has shifted now that school is in session. Perhaps a larger portion of the votes occur in the late afternoon now compared to previous matches.
From: transience | Posted: 8/22/2005 11:44:43 PM | Message Detail
I think companies are releasing too many compilations/ports/remakes, myself. it seems to be a good idea though if you look at the top 100 sales. there's just so many of them out there and not enough new good games.

They're nice when they're in compilations and not trying to be sold as individual draws anymore (I'm looking at you, Nintendo, though Super Mario All-Stars was great). Sega and Capcom have made two awesome compilations in SMC and MM:AC, for example, and I know Namco always throws several games in there...that's the way I think it should be done more often.

Since Konami was mentioned...would anybody else be happy as hell if they did a Contra compilation?

Contra would be cool, I admit. a Super Metroid remake would be cool too, if only to fix its control issues and bring it to a new audience. still, I'd rather have a new game than a ported game, unless the ported game was impossible to find or not released in NA. I mean, there's like six mario ports but no mario-exclusive GBA games. that's inexcusable.

and I mean platformers, not stuff like mario and luigi (though I really liked m&l)
