Contest Stats and Discussion - Part 211
From: voltch | Posted: 8/22/2005 1:45:11 PM | Message Detail
this contest is now confusing completely.
magus who was thought by most to be able to take out the low noble niners loses to snake's lunch.
this in turns means that knuckles>magus>ganondorf>tidus>shadow which makes no real sense to me.
ocelot was theoratically stronger than kefka yet lost to someone the clown beat.
vincent and tifa looking like behemoths while aeris looked like strong midcarder makes me think what took them so long to get on the scene?

Every Frog fan should have prepared for this, since every sign pointed to Frog being vastly overrated.

As for Snake, I think he's going to get past Zelda, but if Sora gets a good sprite and Snake gets Solid Crap again, then I'm expecting Sora to over-perform (not beat Snake, but over-perform)

Heh, I see Sora/Alucard as Snake's easiest match in his personal gauntlet, so his sprite shouldn't hurt him too much there.

SC2K5: Samus is going all the way!
Samus vs. Frog - Bracket: Samus - Vote: Samus (32/36)
From: transience | Posted: 8/22/2005 1:57:18 PM | Message Detail
some thoughts:

1.) so much for Frog getting 45%; god damn, he's getting slapped around. go Samus.
2.) I don't know what this has to do with Sora.
3.) Zero never gets a high prediction percentage in his matches, so that shouldn't be surprising. I figured he'd be at 50%.

Why? I thought it was pretty clear that I like Frog a lot. It was always a big hope for 40%, but not even 30%? I just hate to see that.

2.) I don't know what this has to do with Sora.

I guess it's because Sora did significantly better than what Frog's doing now. Not that it's any surprise at this point though.

I think they'd tie, just because they're so awesome. >_>

Looks like Frog was about as over-rated as Magus was, and Samus exposed him today.

This makes Seph's beat-down of LS reasonable.

Is it just me, or does every new CT char gets massively over-rated on their first defeat?

Link/Magus was Magus' first loss, and he was vastly over-rated there; then SS/Frog where Frog lost for the first time, and Frog was also vastly over-rated by that match.

*shrug* Vivi and Sora should be about equal statswise, so a Zelda/Sora match should end up in the neighborhood of 60/40.

This makes Seph's beat-down of LS reasonable.

He technically STILL overperformed by a noticeable amount, even based on this.

before this contest, I would have taken Vivi over Sora. I get the feeling Vivi just overperformed (or rSFF due to BMF, if you prefer) on Sephiroth.

now, though? no way. Zelda 57-43, I'll say.

Yeah...but that just makes it look more like Sora will be weak. Lots of people were thinking that Riku's strength meant Sora would be stronger than last year, but after today he's not looking super-strong at all.

For the record, based on 2004 Samus, Frog currently stands at 25.09% on Link, which is actually still very close to Magus based on Knux (above him based on unadjusted Knux, believe it or not). It's actually a little bit below MC's 2003 value. Adjusting Samus by that pushes her up to 44.14% on Link.

Oh, and on the matter of Liquid Snake...His percentage on Sephiroth is actually lower than what his percentage on Link should be based on Frog, meaning the possibility of a Sephiroth overperformance is still there.

But still be mindful that Alucard's 2004 number is entirely based on Ganondorf's 2003 number, which doesn't seem to be lookin' too hot right now. He's gotta hope that Ganon actually got there a year after the fact to have hope.

funny, I thought you were talking about Frog.

Magus overperformed once against Link, and Frog overperformed once against SS.

While Seph has been overperforming and underperforming at will since 2k2.

If you prefer, it would be easy enough to base Alucard off of Spring Ganon instead.

They also had their sprite pics on their first defeat, and their opponent had arguably bad sprite pics on their first defeat too (though Link's didn't bother me at all and I doubt Solid's hurt him much). Also throw in that they both had a large bandwagon on the board and at least one close match...hmmm.

If you think Face-CATS is a viable measuiring stick from the Villain Contest, he's proven it. Regardless, ignoring that match, Frog and Liquid have shown they were plenty over-rated, and it doesn't help MC's cause that Crash is no longer popular enough to get the necessary nominations to get back in the contest.

Even with this performance by Frog, Riku isn't weak... especially for a supporting character. I think Sora will still be strong, but he won't be a contender for the division.

However, I wouldn't be surprised to see him take down Alucard pretty easily, while him losing to Alucard handily WOULD surprise me. So we'll see.

Chief Mel Gibson vs. a very PISSED off Ganondorf. Advantage Ganon?

http://www.gamefaqs.com/shared/sum05/b37.jpg

What the hell is that???? That barely even looks like classic Snake. If Zelda had her TP pic, he could be in SERIOUS trouble. But we get Chibi Zelda instead. Could help. Could hurt... I hope Ceej doesn't try to put Young Link against Cloud in the ToC though.
